Feels sturdy and reliable

Hard plastic reinforced internally with soft rubber and extra cushioning on the corners. I feel no worries about what would happen f I dropped this. Only flaws I can find are 1. The dust flaps on the bottom might get worn out in time from opening and closing so frequently. 2. The soft rubber areas around the front of the frame located next to the buttons seem to pry open very easily. Meaning if it was to catch on something it could easily get inside the case or maybe damage the phones screen...in a way this defeats the purpose of the anti dust ports and is a weakness of the design. The bezel keeps the front of the phone off the table and the case has enough on the back to keep the phones camera/sensors off the table. You could go with less and get the symmetry case by otterbox...or more and get the defender .....but I feel tnis is just right in the middle. Much happier with this instead of my tech21 tactical. That thing had little to no protection on the bottom, ports over exposed, and no protection on the bottom back . This address all the areas I had issues with.....its not perfect, but a great improvement. Fyi it's tempered glass friendly. Just applied a invisishield for the S8 (generation 2) with no compatibility issues . Fits great and gives me piece of mind that my $750 phone is protected from drops and spills onto the floor.

While it's been excellent protection for my iPhone, and Galaxy S7, sadly, and disappointingly, I can not say the same for my son's Galaxy S8. His new phone went straight from box to Commuter case the day I bought it for him, as I insisted on Otterbox because I've dropped my Commuter case protected iPhone many times with no damage. I understand that the Galaxy S8 is a difficult phone to protect due to the curvature of the screen, and it is highly prone to breakage. Was hoping Otterbox would decrease the chance of breakage, but after only 3 months, one short drop onto the pavement, the screen cracked. I still love my Commuter on my iPhone, but I just can not recommend the Galaxy S8 Commuter case. Son's phone had a big crack across screen, still functioned, but then after another month, still responded to touch, but the lower screen went white and he was unable to see anything. $200 for a new screen, and now shopping for a new case with more protection. I gave 2 stars because it's a nice looking and nice feeling case, son loved it, felt sleek, easy to slide in and out of pocket, and the functionality of the phone was not affected. However, it breaks my heart and my wallet, to say that it is not a case you can depend on for drop protection.

The defender is too bulky and the cheap plastic cover for the screen does nothing to truly protect it. The commuter is streamlined and fairly light-weight. Love it!

I thought I was getting a defender. I have always heard that otterbox has been a great way to protect your phone. Not even a week since putting the phone in the commuter, it fell 10 inches on vinyl tile. Cracked the screen from the front facing camera to halfway down the screen. I saw other complaints about this type of device. Just wish I had done more research, before buying

Flimsy protection

However, the case has long since lost its shape and is flimsy. Although my phone has no damage (very careful), I'm feeling left with minimal phone protection. I am regretting listening to her. I fell while running with my dogs and destroyed my phone with this case on it. The corner of the phone was damaged and the phone glass was shattered.
