Case protects well but is rapidly deteriorating

The case does a good job of protecting my phone, but the rubber piece that covers the home button is starting to peel off and the back area where the apple symbol is, the rubber is starting to peel off. I called otterbox for a warranty claim but they said I would have to pay shipping and handling. Not worth it to pay more money out of pocket.
