I just bought this case today after buying the commuter case and getting totally frustrated. The commuter case comes with a screen protector kit where you wipe off your screen, then you put this sticker like protector on and then use a card to get out all the air bubbles. Sound good? Well, that was a real nightmare as it was hard to put the screen on correctly, it kept getting dusty, and it was really hard to get the cover on afterwards. So, I returned this and got the Defender series. I really just wanted something simple but got worried that the iPhone wouldn't be protected against falls (I have kids, and I have dropped phones before). The price is steep (though I've seen this listed for cheaper on eBay) but to me this was a pretty good investment. I plan to keep the phone a long time and I do let my kids use the phone to play games. What I like: I like that the screen protector is PART of the hard shell case. Those stick on protectors are a PAIN. I like that it really isn't so bulky. My husband has the Otter Box for an iPhone 4 and it is bulky and ugly. This one actually looks sleeker. The cream/blush is really pretty. I have a black iPhone (but I don't see how the phone color makes a difference when it is totally covered by the case). The hard shell is cream colored and the blush is for the rubber covering. The rubber covering has cut outs for all main openings. These close nicely. So, I feel like I not only got a real safe case, but I didn't compromise on attractiveness. This actually looks cool. What I don't like: I wish it weren't so expensive. There are so many cheap cases out there. However, you get what you pay for and OtterBox does have a cheaper covering which while being $10 less and without a holster (which I don't use) seems like it is in a different class. (Interesting note: The sales guy told me to get the OtterBox commuter because I didn't want to use a holster cover. I returned it anyway and just will not use the holster cover for the Defender one I did end up with at the end of today's shopping experience.) I've yet to see how difficult it may be to clean. However, if this is like the iPad case (which is also quite difficult to open once it is shut), there is a way to gently open it by using a pocket knife to gently push open each closing point (there are about 4, two on each side near the corners). Once you figure that out, it's really not difficult to open. And, its good that it isn't easy to open because you wouldn't want young kids to try to get it out... Hope this helps...

Don't bother buying if you also place a shield on the glass. The case causes the shield to Separate from the glass

Broke after few uses, totally not worth it and it wasn’t covered under warranty

Love this case. Purchased one for all 4 of our children as well as my husband and I. This case has saved our phones on so many occasions. Had phone supposedly accidentally thrown from moving vehicle, and it was perfectly fine when we turned around to get it. Also love that Otterbox stands behind its product. Had one of the rubber cases stretch out. They send us a replacement with no problems.

I would recommend any Otter Box iPhone case to anyone who wants to insure their iPhone isn't damaged and wants the max. trade in value for their iPhone when ready to upgrade. Otter Box has saved our iPhones from so many drops and spills I can't count all of the times. Moreover, every time I am ready for an upgrade, I take it out of the case and it looks just as new as the day I bought it!

Purchased the otter box blue yesterday. Color is awesome the feel is fantastic. The look is spectacular. If you had a 4s otterbox you can see the difference. The 4s is like a brick too rigid feeling. The iPhone 5 is slimmer more sleek smooth but not slippery. Perfect grip. I was debating on the commuter but I looked at the look and feel of this one was perfect. The commuter was ok you need a screen protector. The defenders screen is awesome. Screen sensesitivity perfect look perfect. All ports accessible and the ports open and close way better than the 4s I so recommend over life proof. You won't be disappointed. Oh and it fits like a glove.

I have dropped my phone 3 times: Once getting out of my truck it fell out of my pocket and hit the pavement nothing happened. 2nd time In the kitchen holding my infant and he was reaching for my phone and instead knocked it out of my hand hit the tile face down and again nothing happened to it. 3rd time I was at work on break not paying attention and I didn't have a good hold on it and again facedown on concrete and still nothing happened to the phone but that time my otterbox screen protector had a small scratch on it. Worth the money in spending to protect your phone.

Got this case for my dad. He works a lot in environments where he NEEDS a case like this or his phone would be destroyed in a week. Excellent for protecting the iPhone... a little too bulky for me but he loves that it comes with a belt clip.

A little thick, but if protection for the phone is the main concern, then this is a great case. My phone stays safe and sound, and the plastic cover over the screen doesn't diminish the touch quality at all. Good product.

I've been a long time fan of OtterBox. I have the iPhone 4 case and bought this one for my cousin. She loved the color and after putting it on the iPhone 5, she immediately loved everything about it. The outer rubber/silicone part is flexible, but not easily movable. The inner plastic part is easy to take apart and put back together if you follow the arrows on the back of the case (it's engraved in the plastic). Of course, like all Defender series case, this comes with a built-in clear plastic screen cover. All in all, it's a great case.
