We engineered the edges of the Defender case to raise above the curved phone screen so that if the phone falls, the perimeter of the case hits the ground before your screen does. If so, it should be working seamlessly with the Defender series, and our Otter investigators would love to take a closer look to solve this conundrum. Nice Rubberized Case. No Screen Protection
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.When I got my Galaxy S8, I also purchased the Defender case with the Otterbox AlphaGlass screen protector. Within days, the thick glass cover popped open the case (case is a two piece unit that snaps together), due to its thick material. The glass also made it almost impossible to "touch" activate things on all edges of the screen (top, bottom, and sides). I returned the Alpha Glass, but now I am worried the screen is unprotected. I have an OB case on my old HTC One smartphone, and that was near bulletproof, so I am hopeful this Defender will protect the Galaxy S8. I like that the top and bottom of the case are raised which keeps the S8 screen from making contact with a flat surface (a table for example). BUT, like all other S8 cases out right now, the sides leaves the screen exposed to contact if the phone were to hit the edge of the table. I am PRAYING OB will come out with a plastic overlay to adhere to the S8 screen, for protection. I do like the belt clip holder and the phone does fit into it with a distinct SNAP. It does take some effort to pull the phone out of the holder, so I am confident it will hold the phone tightly on my belt. The phone can be snapped into the holder with the screen facing out or in. Purely for the lack of a useable screen protector, I am rating this case a 3.

Past Defender cases were so overly bulky I felt like I was holding a brick in my hand. Overall I feel very comfortable that the edges of the phone and back are protected. However very poor decision to not encase the entire phone and cover the screen. Due to this you can hardly call this case a "Defender". While we all know the S8 is water resistant, I think all would be more comfortable to add totally encased protection when going places like the beach or pool with their phone. I have had the case for a little over a month now, and the screen of the phone has actually stood up well. However I have to constantly take the phone out of the case and clean is as since the front and rear are not totally closed, dirt and debris gets in between it and needs to be wiped off before it causes scratches. Overall it is pretty disappointing and am switching to a Ghostek Nautical case for my S8 in hops of having full protection.

I don't miss the screen protector since I always applied a hardened glass shield anyway. The flat protector they always included most likely wouldn't work with the curved screen so it's no loss. The case provides arguably one of if not the best protection available and the belt holster snaps on securely to the case. No complaints.
