The supervisor suggested I exchange the Otter Box for a Speck Presidio Grip and that appears to have resolved my issues. Somehow this Otter Box interferes with the speaker.

We intentionally decided to forego the traditional built-in screen protector to allow for full access to the curved screen edges. We predicted that any sort of integrated plastic over the infinity display could hinder touch sensitivity and cause frustration, which was not an experience that we wanted for our customers. Didn't hold up at all

It did get dropped on the corner but the rubber outer case, hard plastic inner case did nothing to protect the phone at all.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.My Galaxy S8 is a nice phone but the polished edges on this very thin phone make it hard for my hands to securely grip it. I always felt like I was on the verge of dropping the phone. The Otterbox Defender case provides me with the perfect amount of grip on the phone, is very well made, and fits perfectly over the phone. The lack of a screen protector bothers some reviewers but the top and bottom edges of the case are slightly thicker so that if the phone lands face down on the ground the glass most likely won't get scratched. I don't see myself using the holster, though.
