Waste of money.

Everything we do is to help limit the potential for such things, but unfortunately, any given incident is still subject to a variety of unique dynamics that prevent us from being able to eliminate all exposure to risk.

Is there any chance you have the iPhone 14 Pro rather than the iPhone 14 this specific case was designed for? Although the two devices have nearly identical outer dimensions, the placement of those side controls is slightly different and would explain the dynamic you've experienced.
