    Excellent

MOVIE: A simple plot does not equal a simplistic movie. Guillermo del Toro builds a fully developed world and layers it with symbolic significance. The storytelling is succinct but effective, moving the character development and plot along at a brisk pace without ever rushing. Visuals are obvious astonishing, sound design and score are top-notch, and acting is excellent. VIDEO: Color is vivid and accurate, contrast is punchy without being overblown, detail is plentiful and extremely well-defined, no compression artifacts to be seen, just generally it's flawless. AUDIO: The main audio tracks are a DTS-HD MA 5.1 track and a DTS-HD MA 7.1 track. The 7.1 track is slightly quieter, but has better rear speaker activity (even on my 5.1 system) and, that one thing aside, is identical to the 5.1 track when volume is matched (just turn it up). Bass is room-shakingly powerful but tight and accurate, fidelity is perfect, everything sounds very real, The soundscape is fully realized, with all speakers active at all times and convincing cross-channel panning sounds. BONUS FEATURES: Entertaining and plentiful, moderately informative but not as in-depth as I'd like, and they don't last particularly long--I saw them all within 2 days. OVERALL: Excellent movie with incredible A/V quality, and a good set of bonus features.

    Highly entertaining popcorn flick

Pacific Rim is a stupid movie, but the difference is, it doesn't make me feel stupid for enjoying it unlike say, the Transformers films. It is fully aware of what it is, and fully aware that we know what it is, and as such, it doesn't ever waste out time with nonsense. Its runtime is jammed-pack with spectacle, but never feels rushed. More importantly, though the actions sequences can be long, they are so inventive, and choreographed with such care, that the film never devolves into feeling like a never-ending slog which is something this type of genre piece can so easily become. Del Toro clearly loves the film's many inspirations, and that love shines through the work. The blu-ray is perfect. Colors burst off the screen in a dazzling array. The audio is demo material throughout the entire film as the bass on display bests anything I've ever heard. You will not believe the 3D is a conversion as it looks better than some natively shot films. All-around, a disc cannot get any better than this.

    Great Action, OK Actors

I was hesitant when it first came out in theaters. I knew from the commercials that I was not going to like the two main characters. And unfortunately, my suspicions were correct. Their chemistry and acting was pretty bad. Other than those two, the plot was the only other negative. It seemed to generic of a plot that has been told before. It was too predictable. But let's face it, when deciding on whether to watch this movie or not is solely based on the amazing Kaiju and Jaeger battles. And I must say, they were phenomenal. It's like my childhood fantasy come to life which is what really kept me going through it. Also, I felt the supporting cast was MUCH better. Idris Elba was great as always. Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Max Martini, and Robert Kazinsky were really and ended up helping the movie. Overall, I recommend the movie and if you're still hesitant, rent it first.

    excellent 4k UHD/HDR/WCG from 2k DI

Even though this is one of those 4k BRs derived from a *2k* digital intermediate, IT LOOKS (and sounds) EXCELLENT on reference 4k equipment. As good as the original 2k digital/Dolby ATMOS, in theater, with the added bonus of 4k stop-motion/playback of all the richly detailed scenes (like oogling the Jaeger HUDs and consoles; kaiju facial expressions). HDR and WCG expertly executed. Total eye candy. Fully surpasses the already excellent HD BR release. Now, one of the current BB/WB promotion titles for 3 4kHDR BRs for US$50, there's no excuse not to add this title to any growing 4k SciFi and/or Guillermo del Torro collection.

Such color, such detail, such awesomeness. Definitely one of the top 4k UHD experiences out there up to date. the almost 16 x 9 aspect ratio makes this puppy stretch from corner to corner leaving only tiny letter box on top and bot. but its seriously tiny. The detail and the feel from this movie makes you wonder why arent the rest of the movies in 16 x 9 aspect ratio. The quality of the picture is amazing, the rivets on vault doors, the back pieces of yager suits, the yagers themselves the kaijus, all of the details I and probably you missed before. Just amazed me. Worth every cent.

Pacific Rim is good Kaiju fun.

If you love the old Godizila movies where monsters fought monsters then Pacific Rim is a big, very big budget update of Kaiju films you will enjoy. All you really need to know is giant monsters vs giant robots. The film is just a ton of fun.It has a paper thin plot but it doesn't really need much more. The film is just a visual spectacle.Honestly this is a film that needed to be seen in IMAX but since that isn't possible on home media then most definitely go with the 3D Blu Ray release. It was a conversion but one done to the higest levels supervised by director Guillermo del Toro. The 3D looked great on the IMAX screen and looks great on Blu Ray too.

    Big, Dumb, Fun Movie

I saw a video online that posed the question "Is Pacific Rim an 'Awesome, Stupid Movie' or a 'Stupid, Awesome Movie'?" I think that is the best way to sum up a goofy, fun, monsters vs. robots show in Pacific Rim. It certainly borrows heavily from several other genres and their staples, but it executes it in such a fun movie that you can look past it. The action is loud and great, the visual effects are spectacular, and there is a ton of unadvertised humor all throughout, headlined by Charlie Day as a mad scientist. The romantic subplot feels unnecessary and sometimes it's hard to get over just how goofy things get, but if you are looking for a fun piece of escapism, and/or a movie to show off how great your home theater is, you can't go wrong.

    Epic Monster Mashing

Well I never got a chance to see this in theaters, so i picked it up upon release in 3D...I wasn't expecting a blow me away kinda story line or plot. But what I was expecting was giant robots and monsters having huge fights, and it did not disappoint. Pacific Rim was well entertaining from beginning to end...the visuals/audio in this movie are superb with a decent script along with some cheesy one liners, you cant go wrong. This movie tremendously reminds of "Robot Jox" which came out in the early 90's directed by Stuart Gordon...I wonder if Guillermo del Toro got his inspiration from that film. If you're into sci-fi with monsters and robots and landscapes being destroyed, i highly recommend this.

    Jaegers vs. Kaijus!

This is a great movie to watch if you are a fan of monster movies (kaiju) and sci-fi! The story-line can be a bit cheesy at times, and the acting is decent. However, the special effects and battles will mesmerize most people watching the first time, and the soundtrack is definitely memorable. I once described the movie to a friend that it's kind of like "GUNDAM" is created to counter "Godzilla", but the analogy/description does not do the movie or the movie universe justice. In fact, the description is likely offensive... I strongly recommend this movie to anyone that likes to watch movies with awesome special effects, epic battles, massed destruction, and a memorable soundtrack.

Bought this film with no expectations since I had not watched this in the theaters. One of those movies when you see the trailer on TV you say to yourself "I'll wait for that to come out on DVD". It had me hooked from the start and kept my interest all the way through. Glad I bought the Blu-Ray version with the Ultraviolet to add it to my online video collection. FYI - Ultraviolet account is free and is great to stream and download to your devices 24/7! If this helps you ... I thought this show was about as good as the new Total Recall.

CH so of course, sold. BUT the movie was great. Idris is a great actor as well, so I'm glad they fit him in this movie. A lot of action but not too much - they still fit some comical moments and drama in there. Kind of takes you back to the Power Ranger days when they'd all combine and make one heck of a Megazord...Anywhoo watch it, you'll like it.

As someone who grew up watching shows like Godzilla or other Japanese monster-type movies, this is a great move that brings back those memories but does so to a whole new level. The action scenes are incredible and the overall plot is over the top (if you're not into some unrealistic plots then this isn't the movie for you). I really enjoy watching this movie several times!

A thoroughly entertaining homage to Japanese Mecha

Pacific Rim is one of my favorite films of the past few years, if not one of my favorites period. It is always thrilling to see big budget sci-fi done right. As a fan of Asian culture, it was fun to see it reinterpreted from a western viewpoint, while retaining what makes it unique. The action is fun, and the creature and mecha designs are amazing.

    Great sci-fi monster movie

This was a quality sci-fi monster movie with lots of city destruction, robot-on-monster brawling, beautiful visuals, and a vibrant neon color palette throughout. It also features themes of teamwork and unity, which was a pleasant surprise to what I initially expected would be a straight-forward action adventure romp. Highly recommended.

Even though I thought the movie itself was so so, I have to say it's one of the best 3D movies I've ever seen. Colors are vibrant, the detail in all the machines is top notch and the 3D is very well done without being distracting. Well worth a look.

This movie is loads of fun if you don't expect the Guillermo del Toro that did Pan's Labyrinth, but more like a cross between the GDT of Blade 2 and Hellboy. The amount of work and detail is fantastic, just don't expect the dialogue to be rooted in Shakespeare's Hamlet. Big monsters, big mechs, and a big budget. Crank the speakers and enjoy. Extras are nice and thick like all of GDT's movies.

Action-packed adventure movie. The multicultural cast was a nice yet natural choice, considering how the world must unite to fight back against the enemy. Also liked the choice of Hong Kong as a setting, as it is a cultural melting pot. Highly recommended!

Overall, it is enjoyable movie. I missed the days of watching a good 50 ft. monster story like Godzilla and King Kong. This brought back the memories of the good old days. Plus, who doesn't want to see a monster fight a giant robot. The cinematography is well done and I enjoyed the movie. I definitely recommend this movie if you are a sci-fi person.

Overall I really like this movie. If you're a fan of robot movies AT ALL, you will enjoy Pacific Rim. Very well done computer graphics made for some excellent battle scenes between the Kaiju and the humans manning the robots. Think Transformers/Power Rangers' Zords vs Godzilla's family from another dimension mashup but with good acting and appeal.
