I didn't get a chance to see this when it was in theaters but not too long ago I caught it when it was on HBO. Immediately I regretted not watching it when it first came out because I've become obsessed with it. It's visually stunning and an overall fun, action-packed movie. However, for me, the characters are the best part. They are all so diverse, each with their own interesting story, bringing a very emotional and human element to the whole story. Sure, PR is a little spoon fed but it's a fun movie everyone can enjoy.

Pacific Rim is a great movie. It's Guillermo del Toro (who I dont think can make a terrible movie) and he has great actors - Idris Alba (The Wire, Thor, Ultraviolet the tv show not the movie, Luthor), Chalie Hunman (Sons of Anarchy, Queer as Folk UK), Rinko Kikuchi (who is totally awesome and great) Plus other great characters. Giant Monsters, the world needs saving, there are giant robots controlled by people. It's funny, it's heart rending, it's fast paced. Everyone should watch it. The extras are good too.

If character development and believable plot are what you desire, you won't like this movie. If you like to see giant robots piloted by two human beings bashing giant monsters from another dimension, this is for you. Idris Elba gives a remarkable performance as the head of the Jaeger program despite the limitations of the plot. The special effects -- the best part of the movie -- are believable and stunning and make the transition to DVD very well. I enjoyed this film for what it was: a romp, an action packed smackdown that worked to perfection on my home theater and 60 inch flatscreen.

If you like Transformers and other giant robot movies/entertainment, Pacific Rim is probably up your alley. Each of the giant robots, or Jaegers as they are called here, are controlled by 2 people that basically have their minds connected in a neural connection. A washed up pilot and a untested trainee are given the unenviable task of using a older Jaeger to battle against their enemy, the Kaiju... basically a race of giant creatures that are coming through a 'gate' at the bottom of the ocean. The only way they can stop the creatures from coming through is to figure out a way to close the gate.

I have always been a fan of giant monster movies ever since I watched Godzilla 1985 with my dad as a little boy. While this film will not win any awards for acting, the movie itself was a great time. Huge battles, amazing soundtrack, just everything you want in a giant monster movie. I own in 3d and in 4k HDR, both of which are reference level discs. The bright neon lights in Chapter 10 look incredible in HDR as well.

Just because Guillermo del Toro directed this do NOT expect it to be anything more than a computer animation extravaganza! Overlook the bad dialog, the often wooden performances and the story points that make no sense. Like freezing to death, just relax and let it wash over you! Visually it is very impressive and the 3D adds an impressive immersive element. It will also show off your home theater's sound system! Don't expect anything beyond a technically impressive popcorn flick and you will be happy!

I'm a huge fan of these types of movies. Godizilla, Mothra, Gamera, Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot, Ultraman, Mazinger Z(American: Tranzor Z); Voltron; The Iron Giant, etc, etc, etc. LOL! And now my boys are getting into it. They love this movie and want me to get the game too. Ah. My little geeks. In other words, try not to think too deeply about it. Enjoy it! Too late for me though. The more I watch it with my boys, the more I pick at little things wrong with it. I really try not to. LOL!

Pacific Rim is a ridiculous movie. It crosses that line of so-bad-it's-great. The acting is a little silly. The story is really silly. There is quite a bit of entirely superfluous story content. It's pretty. The action scenes are pretty good. There are times where everything is moving so quickly, and the camera is so shaky, that it becomes difficult to make out what is happening on the screen. But those times are fairly infrequent. Most of the time, things look great. The movie is a lot of fun. It's worth seeing. But I wouldn't suggest paying a lot of money for it.

To date, this would be the best Kaiju (Giant Monsters) film, as it explores the fight to keep humanity from extinction. While, very successful at first (with category 1 thru 3 monsters) the worlds military join (like a world Federation) to fight the monsters, but have to rethink their strategy when the category 4, then 5 monsters come through the rift. It take a team effort, which makes for a more interesting movie, as their are many hero's. Get your popcorn ready and enjoy!

Guillermo Del Toro is a visionary. That is indisputable fact. What is not noted is just how much of hand he has on the zeitgeist. He gets it. He knows how to entertain. And he dishes out big heaping helpings of fun and awesome in his latest directorial effort "Pacific Rim" I love Kaiju having been raised on a steady diet of Godzilla flicks through the 60's and 70's. To see this wonderful genre raised up and given new form and function by a Master of his craft is exhilarating

This is a great sci-fi. There are giant monsters invading earth. Humans have made giant robots to fight the monsters. The special effects are really good and make you feel as if you are there. The acting is good too. This is over-all one of my favorite science fiction movies in recent years. Give it a try if you like Godzilla and giant robot movies.

This is the best way to view 4K UHD Blu-ray movies, my Yamaha A/V 870 receiver and sony 4K UHD Blu-ray player, followed by my 4K UHD HDR/Dolby Vision TCL tv brought it all together. I bought my tv from Best Buy here in Oklahoma. I am in for 4K UHD HDR awaiting for Dolby Vision 4K movies and upgrade for my Sony 4K UHD player, because there is nothing better than watching action, power pack movies with a 5.1.2 layout.

This is a great movie that holds with lots of action and suspenseful moments. This movie has awesome CGI and will surely keep you on the edge of your seat. I purchased this DVD directly from the store and it was in very good condition. Check out was simple and the staff was very friendly allowing for a very nice Best Buy experience. If you are a movie buff like myself, this is surely a title that must be added to your collection.

I specifically purchased the movie after reading reviews that the UHD version was a great showpiece of HDR. That was sure correct! If you have a 4K TV with HDR capabilities, you will be amazed. On top of that, I actually really enjoyed the movie. Great action and an entertaining story from start to finish. As a bonus, redeem the digital copy on Vudu, and you will get the UHD version which has Dolby Vision if your TV supports it.

This is what 4k is suppose to be, crystal clear, vivid colors,and deep blacks! I don’t think I have seen a better 4k movie yet on picture quality! This will be the movie you pop in when you wanna show your TV off! And the movie is the entire screen no black bars, I really wish they would do away with widescreen or whatever. Definitely pick this movie up if you have a 4k TV and 4k player!

The summary says it all, giant Mecha (not robots since they have pilots) punch inter-dimensional Kaiju that are bent on eliminating human life as they transform the earth into a planet they can live on, and exploit. There are also other scenes that involve not punching monsters. It's over the top, schlocky fun. The movie is well made, great visuals, the acting is pretty good for a crazy monster movie. If you like giant monster movies, this is certainly one of the better recent releases I have seen.

If you want a smash 'em up movie with a completely implausible concept, but great effects and escapist entertainment, Pacific Rim fits the bill. Characters are presented in broad stereotypical fashion, and both Ron Perlman and Idris Elba relish their roles. Effects are state-of-the-art, and the movie is a satisfying 2+ hour romp in the future that is -- hopefully -- never going to happen.

I actually love this movie. The premise of the movie is kind of ridiculous, but it's so well plotted with wonderfully weird characters balanced off by deadly serious ones. And the action, and noise, and explosions, and visual excitement all contribute to the story. So getcher' popcorn, settle back in your recliner, turn up your home theater, prep the big screen HD, and BOOM!, you're ready for 2 hours of mindless pleasure.

this is an amazing movie to begin with just for the scale of things. lets get right to it. this UHD release has amazing video, super detailed. beyond that, it has what is easily, one of the best Dolby ATMOS soundtracks ever. if you have an ATMOS system (I have a 7.1.4) you need this movie, crank it as loud as you can stand it (don't hurt your ears!) it's just that good. your sub-woofer will be begging for mercy!

I've seen this movie on the big screen, on bluray, on UHD bluray, but I hadn't seen it in 3-D. I'd avoided it because it wasn't filmed in 3-D and the 3-D was added synthetically (and I honestly wasn't expecting much). Boy, was I surprised! The 3-D is fantastic! It has become one of my favorite 3-D bluray discs. If you like the film and also like 3-D, I couldn't recommend this 3-D bluray disc more!
