This is a fun movie. Who doesn't like giant robots battling huge monsters?

Pacific Rim is the stuff of "man versus giant monsters" childhood playtime on a Hollywood A-film budget and it surprisingly delivers! Yes, the story and characters could be right out of a comicbook, BUT that's part of its charm. You get flawed, but mostly likeable protagonists in their big war machines trying to save mankind from giant beasts sent to earth as a prelude to invasion (their masters' plans harken back to those of the ID4 aliens) and when things begin to deteriorate quickly you hope the "Oliver & Hardy"-like comedy relief scientist duo can find a solution to save the day. If you've ever enjoyed Godzilla, any Ray Harryhausen flick, Ultraman, Johnny Socko & His Flying Robot, Transformers or the like, chances are you will thoroughly enjoy this!... At least as much as it appeared that Ron Perlman enjoyed playing Hannibal Chau. ;) If that's not your bag, but you enjoy super hero movies, you may like it as well - at least for the characters and action. The end credits tribute to Ishiro Honda and Ray Harryhausen is most appropriate. :)

If you come to this movie seeking the dreamy Gothic play and human passions of del Toro’s corpus, you will be confounded. Perhaps, after years stalled on The Hobbit and At The Mountains Of Madness, he just needed to get a film under his belt, and the juvenile exuberance of the opportunity swept him along. The film isn’t entirely bereft of the director’s hallmarks. The Jaeger depot, located in a neon-soaked Hong Kong, is a cavernous citadel mixing hi-tech gizmos with vast clockwork apparatus; surely designs once meant for the dwarvish forges of The Hobbit. Lucky charm Ron Perlman makes us all nostalgic for the swampy superhero subversion of Hellboy as a surly, one-eyed black-market dealer in Kaiju body parts (their bone dust makes a powerful aphrodisiac). And in the sight of a prostate Jaeger washed up on a snowy beach like a fallen Titan from Greek myth, you catch a glimpse of that other del Toro, the artist still linked and compatible.

It's a really fun movie, and I wish I had a bigger TV to watch it on.

It's simple. Giant robots. Flashy lights. Big booms. Enjoy!

In the wrong hands, ''Pacific Rim'' would've been a bad film

I really love what Guillermo del Toro did with the first Pacific Rim. It is well directed and shot, the cinematography is beautiful and colorful throughout, the action is on a huge, epic scale, and the film is just fun and entertaining to watch. This film just oozes atmosphere and the visual effects are stunning. Plus, Ramin Djawadi's music score is grand, epic, and iconic which really adds to the overall experience. If you like "giant robot movies" this arguably might be the best. The base blu ray looks great and the 4K disc is pretty much a reference quality 4K transfer! If you want to give your entertainment center a good workout pick up this disc!

Big monster movie watching family so we enjoyed it

I've never had such a blast watching a movie this silly before. Giant robots are constructed to battle giant invading monsters. That's the basic story. Since the movie was dedicated to two classic movie monster mavens, one who created numerous stop-motion creatures and the other who created the monsters for all those Japanese giant monster films, I knew what kind of film this was going to be from the start. Still, silly and all, I had a real blast watching it. The special effects were top flight. Being a Guermo Del Toro film, the visuals were also great. The 4k bluray looked absolutely spectacular! It is one of the best examples of HDR (High Dynamic Range) that I've seen on a disc to date! If you like this film, and have a 4k bluray player, this is one disc to definitely get for your system!

Great job with Jaegers, loved the look of these live robotic heros. Monsters were weird & different for me since I didn't watch that style in Aime...but I still liked them. Good inner & outer conflicts with human characters. Good humor as well with the two scientists and esp. with Ron Perlman. He always has great comedy! I found all the technology well done... Jaegers rock!! I wanted to know more about the insect typish creatures in the other dimension. Good story for fantasy, science fiction, action.. This movie is made so well. Great shots & CGI. I liked ALL the character; would have liked to have seen more of the Russians and Chinese Jaegers pilots! I would have even liked an extended version. I'm glad I bought it on blu-ray!

4K is the sh-t! Until something better replaces it.

This movie is action packed. It has a great cast!!

I knew going in that this film would not be an Academy Award winner but I was not looking to be "wowed" by the costumes, cinematography, directing, etc. I just wanted to be entertained with a fun film that does not pretend to be anything else. This movie has that in spades. As a kid I LOVED the Godzilla movies, especially the tongue-in-cheek ones, and this movie plays homage to them as well as all the good old giant monster movies of a by gone era in Hollywood. The special effects are very good and if you are an HT enthusiast, the "mid bass" punch is wonderful. Again, this will not garner critical acclaim but if you are wanting sit back, eat your pop corn, have fun, and forget about the outside world for a bit then this is the movie for you.

Love this movie, Saw it in theaters 3 times. Bought it in 3d which I still prefer, but the 4k blu ray has really nice details that I do not notice on the 3d blu ray version. If you have a nice subwoofer, this movie has a lot of great scenes that will really move that sub. I Love Del Toro's attention to detail on this movie.
