Not the greatest movie ever. I was expecting a lot more from this movie. I feel like it could of been better. Way different from the original version.

A refreshing take on an old classic

With so many versions done on J.M. Barrie's creation, Peter Pan, this one had me set for a Blu-ray purchase rather than a cinema visit. My oldest daughter was excited to see this one but the others were on the fence about it. So, as tradition in our household goes, my oldest daughter opted for my option of buying it on Blu-ray, rather than the usually expensive cinema visit. Enter "Pan" in our home theater and the experience was a refreshing one that served to interest us all the way to the end. The take on Peter Pan's tale here is certainly a departure from the way it's been played with other versions but we had expected that and even welcomed it. The film flowed well, overall, the visuals were top notch and the acting was well done (Hugh Jackman and Levi Miller are excellent). The transition between worlds (ours and Neverland) was interesting and done in a way to remind the audience that this is a tale steeped in magic, hence, suspend your disbelief and you'll enjoy the film that much more. Then, Peter Pan has never been a tale steeped in realism and that actually works to Pan's advantage. So, I'll recommend the film as worthy family fare with excellent production values but unless you're the kind that's willing to take a leap of faith and have an open mind, you may want to rent this one first. Regarding the technical merits of the film, the video and audio are top notch all the way. Speaking to the video, the film's locations, whether it be 20th century London or the appropriately scenic Neverland, serves to show off the strong mastery of Pan's video. Colors are bright, details are clear and blacks are well defined...as long as you're watching this in a darkened room, you'll never lose sight of any details in dark scenes. Even bright rooms can give a good viewing experience but you'll still have to draw the shades a bit for the dark scenes. As for the audio, Dolby Atmos offers a rich sense of immersion. Early in the movie, you'll be treated to an exciting sequence that will definitely show off the chops of an Atmos-enabled receiver. The 3D soundscape throughout most of Neverland will put you right beside the characters in their adventure and it'll certainly make you appreciate the experience more with than without it. Setting the speakers to the 7.1 experience still proved to be a treat, indeed, but the Atmos track (5.1.2) certainly adds to the feeling that you're in the movie. If you can get this for the right price (I picked up ours for $10 on sale), then there's little lost if you'd planned on watching it at your local cinema but missed the chance. This movie's well worth the chance.

PAN is a fresh look at the (back) story

Despite the fact that this film bombed at the box offices, I definitely think it is worth a watch. PAN is a fresh, interesting, and absorbing interpretation of J.M. Barrie's original work--although not the best in my humble opinion. The best modern interpretation of Peter Pan for me is still Steven Spielberg's HOOK, filmed over 25 years ago. Nevertheless, there are several modern touches that make THIS Pan more relevant for viewers in 2015 while remaining somewhat faithful to Barrie's original story. The special effects in PAN are certainly more 'special' than all prior adaptations, and the CGI imagery was used masterfully to create a visual feast for the senses. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The acting was top notch, and the story intriguing in that it was at times predictable and other times unpredictable. While I found the movie to be entertaining, I don't believe Pan is the sort of movie that possesses universal appeal. It is more a movie for fathers and tween sons than mothers and tween daughters. There is sporadic violence and unnecessary fighting throughout the film. It might have made more sense if Peter himself were involved in the fray, but for this we have to wait until the last seven minutes of the film. Further, Peters internal struggles to understand and fulfill his destiny in Neverland fully occupied 95% of the film and made it more somber and morose than previous Pan movies. The movie was far too serious for far too long in my humble opinion. To sum things up, I think this film lacks the general sense of fun and adventure one might expect of a Peter Pan story, although it does have several merits that make it a worthwhile investment of time. It is helpful at times to remember that PAN is a prequel, and as such is taking us backwards in time into hitherto unknown territory.

Cute movie, interesting take on a classic

This movie is about the beginning of the Peter Pan and Captain James Hook saga in which they are both friends before turning against each other. It's a cute movie that the entire family can watch. It is slow at times, has some humor to it, and some action. It's a different spin on the Peter Pan story as it gives you the story of Peter from when he was born and how he came to be. It comes with a digital copy for your ultraviolet account. It will not work on your iTunes account.

I love Peter Pan and really enjoyed how this movie presented a different side to the story we all know so well. Hugh Jackman was great. This is now one of my favorite Pan movies. Of course Hook is still number 1.

Flying sailing ships vs RAF fighter planes

Immersive 3D CG and practical effects made the fantasy real. Been a Peter Pan fan since age of 6 when Disney's Peter Pan was released. Pan's WWII London setting made for some fun imaginative encounters between flying sailing ships and RAF fighter planes. This prequel to Peter Pan provided a logical back story. The discs included interesting featurettes about the making of the movie.

How did Peter get to Neverland?

This film was a great prequel. Many actors have filled the role of Pan and Hook over the years, but for me there was huge disconnect between the James Hook in this movie and the well known Dustin Hoffman version from "Hook" That aside, it was a great tale of how Peter and the Lost Boys stumbled into Neverland

I really like how they did a modern prequel on a classic like Peter Pan. The actors were great and they did a good job creating a ackstory for the original. The boy that played Peter Pan was perfect!

It's a story I didn't expect from Disney. But lots of action and lots of fun. My kids enjoyed it very much with all the flying, fairy, and magic.

The cinematography is great. The costumes are so colorful, very different from the children book, animated movie. The music makes the movie more modern. The fight scenes seem to drag a little. My Son enjoyed it very much.
