Customers frequently mention the air fryer and ease of use as top features of the HomeCHEF CD87KS Multioven Microwave. Many appreciate its multiple functions, including the microwave, broiler, and convection capabilities, but some find the controls require a learning curve and the appliance is noisy. The stainless steel finish is visually appealing to many, although it is prone to fingerprints.

The Rolls Royce of Microwave. I need to learn how to cook! Complicated but it does what is says. Take a while to get use to its power and large 14 inch turntable. Panasonic needs to offer microwave splatter covers for the 14 inch turntable. They are hard to find in the aftermarket.

I live this stove. For a small apartment it has style and all the function I need to make up for limited appliances. The broil, convection and microwave work amazingly. My only air fryer use resulted in the meat getting an early a little too charred until I moved it off the rack. Otherwise, an excellent value and appliance for my needs.

A great combination of cooking options that works well in a limited space. Unlike other combination ovens we’ve looked at this one needs minimal space around it due to being well insulated and vented. It fits in the same space as the old microwave it replaced.

I really like this unit, I have been using the air fryer quite a lot and I like that it heats food evenly unlike the regular microwave. The microwave size is just good! Real the manual to enjoy all the benefits.

It has been a long, long time since I got a new microwave oven but my wife and I decided that our rusted up, but still working, tiny microwave that came with our home that we bought five years ago was due for a replacement. Enter this new Panasonic Microwave. We liked the idea that it did far more than just microwave things plus it was a very large microwave as well (but not crazy large either). Granted, this one would not be mounted under our cabinet as the older, smaller one was but that's ok as we weren't using the space underneath the microwave anyways (and I'll bet many people aren't either). Receiving this in a huge box it was a bit of a relief to see that it's a medium sized microwave. The look of the unit is very high-tech and very impressive. Unboxing it was easy. The instructions were extensive and also came with a fairly large book of recipes and tips which was refreshing. I do plan on taking advantage of many of those recipes I might add. Setting up the microwave was as simple as plugging it into the wall and setting the clock, which was similar to how you set up any digital clock now a days. Using it for the first time was quite simple. First hit microwave button and then turn the knob to your desired time. The knob that allows you to pick how long to cook your meal is fantastic as you can easily select 30 seconds or twist if faster to get 30 minutes. Pretty impressive. Cooking with this thing was pretty impressive and I like how it shows the max wattage (1000W) as most microwave meals will go by wattage. You may also select less wattage as well (for example 800W). Moving on to trying the air fryer and boiler and both worked well, although the air fryer took longer to cook bacon (about 11 minutes versus 7 minutes) than in my Ninja XL Air Fryer. I suppose that's largerly because the microwave isn't as small of a space. However, the broiler worked quite well to toast things on top akin to what my usual toaster oven does. I have not yet had an occasion to try the inversion oven. The microwave is really sharp looking but on the downside you will see some fingerprints that will accummulate on the door of the microwave as well as on the buttons as you press them. They are not hugely noticeable but you will notice them if you look closely. They are very easy to wipe down, ditto for the interior. All in all we are both very happy with this unit and it really does do it all. Very happy to get this prior to Thanksgiving so it can lend us a good bit of help with the big meal we plan to undertake. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Great 4in1 Microwave / Air Fryer!

The Panasonic 4-in-1 Microwave is a versatile and reliable addition to our home kitchen! The microwave comes with built-in air-fry, convection, broil and inverse heating capabilities. I put it through several tests and time and again, it excelled and cooked to perfection! The microwave itself is a little larger that most standard microwaves, especially with about an inch buffer on the back side for cooling vents, however if you have the counter space, it can easily take the place of occasional oven and stovetop use. The microwave comes with a standard rotating glass tray and roller ring. To help with the air-fry, convection and broiling functions, it also comes with wire rack to elevate the food, an enamel non-stick tray, and an air-fry basket. There is a learning curve to understanding the combination of the components you need to effectively cook with each method, but unit comes with a detailed instruction manual and a recipe cookbook. I tested all 4 functions a couple different ways. First I started with the air-fryer, the component I was the most eager to try. I did frozen chicken tenders, fries, tater tots, and Asian dumplings. In all four I used the fry basket and a small amount of cooking spray. The tenders and tater tots did the best, and within 15-18 minutes were hot on the inside, and crunchy on the outside, without drying out. Surprisingly the Asian dumplings and fries worked well too, but took a little longer and worked much better after tossing around mid-way through frying and separating out. In the fry basket and enamel plate I used parchment paper to reduce clean-up, and with minimal cook time (10-15 minutes) it held up well, however, the fry basket does sit unevenly and has a tendency to tip and shift around the enamel plate, which is designed to catch grease from the fry basket. Overall, a solid success without a hot pot of oil and mess! For the broiler, I tested with a crock of mac n’ cheese and then an open piece of cheese toast with prosciutto. I was perhaps most impressed with this broiling feature. Most oven broilers get too hot and you have to constantly monitor it or it will burn. The Panasonic clearly delivered in this category, slowly broiling to get a good even browning on the cheese and broiling the top without burning. We often will heat up sweet potatoes for a dinner side, and in testing this, the microwave excelled. I poked holes in the tough sweet potato and let the Panasonic do the rest. Normally, we have constantly turn, rotate, cut through and test the potato but with the Panasonic the potato came out evenly steamed and then we open sliced it and then broiled the top for savory baked sweet potato. Total success! The inverter technology also helped bail us out one night in thawing a large steak that we had forgotten to set out for thawing. This was the first microwave that I had used where meat thawing had not resulted in part of the steak being warm/hot and the other half frozen. The defrosting process took 1-2 minutes longer than normal but it was well worth it! Lastly – a microwave has to be able to pop popcorn. Admittedly, I tried this a few times due to my lack of trust from previous microwaves. Usually a microwave will leave too many kernels unpopped and if you add time, you burn everything else. I didn’t have to add time, however, what impressed me was that as the popping slowed and the final kernels slowly finished, the rest did not burn in the process! It resulted in 7-8 unpopped kernels when typically there are 20-25! Overall, this microwave is a great value and if you don’t have an oven or don’t want to heat up your entire kitchen, it provides some quick and easy cooking options all in one unit. The biggest downsides are the accessories and learning to use them, as well as the cooling noise, where the unit will make a low air vent sound as it cools down after air-frying or broiling, however, it doesn’t last long (4-5 minutes) and is necessary given how much the microwave is doing. The wheel/know feature is easy and the quick setting buttons also make options like the 30-second function and other quick-select cook options easy to use. The amount of options are little daunting at first, considering that you also have the option to combo air-fry and broil, or broil and convection cook, but after some time testing and reading through the manual, we’re happy we made the switch! Now we can cook just about anything in the Panasonic 4-in-1 and there are many new recipes we still want to try.

DON'T BUY!! After it's warranty period they provide limited to no support. We purchased this in June but couldn't start using it till September (Kitchen Remodel delays) Best Buy doesn't care and tells you go to the manufacturer. They don't care either, dial on unit loses ink and looks terrible with typical use. Fryer is poor on performance.

The Panasonic Home Chef 4-in-1 is a fantastic device that combines a Microwave, Air Fryer, Convection Oven and a Broiler into 1 relatively compact package. Visually, the microwave has a clean look without excessive graphics or gimmicks. The front and interior are stainless but curiously the top and sides are painted silver. The controls are easy to understand and use, though the dial rotation does feel a little cheap for the price point, giving it more resistance and smoother turning would improve the feel. Let me go ahead and lay out my main complaint with the device, at 1000W it takes longer to reheat or cook food compared to my previous 1200W microwave. Obviously, it has 20% percent less output and that is to be expected but if you primarily need a microwave be aware of the output. Fortunately, it makes up for it by eliminating the need to have a separate air fryer you have to pull out or preheating your larger oven if you are preparing a smaller dish. Initially I was skeptical on how well this would perform as a convection oven but I was pleasantly surprised and found myself using this function far more than I anticipated. Where the inverter microwave took a little longer to cook compared to my old microwave, the convection oven reduced the cook time and also preheated far faster (due to size). Despite only have 1.2 cubic ft of cook space it can accommodate an entire frozen pizza with room to spare. The Air Fryer performed good as well and is far more convenient compared to pulling out my other air fryer. You do have to keep track of some accessories to utilize with the different modes but that didn’t surprise me and they are easily stored when not in use. Lastly, I found using the FlashXpress broiler function a fast to broil foods. The microwave can even perform a combination of microwave, oven, or broil to cook your meals faster without compromised texture or consistency. One downside to have a microwave with an oven built in is the heat generated makes the top and rear considerably hot. Do not put anything on top of this microwave as it gets very hot when using functions besides the inverter microwave. Overall, despite my nit picks, it is easily the most versatile microwave oven I have ever owned!

This is an amazing microwave and very powerful at it, it has up to 1000 watts. However, it has many other functions, that are also great. Its also a convection over and air fryer. It has several pans for the different functions and a basket for air frying. Using it is very easy, you have dedicated functions for each function, and then you can use the dial to fine tune times, strengths (i.e you can select the strength in watts of the microwave). The microwave itself is big and has lots of space to cook even your biggest foods (being it big, make sure you have the necessary space to mount it). Several functions can be also combined. I.e you can microwave and broil at the same time. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a powerful microwave plus the other functions, with it, you will forget about your regular oven and frying pans (air frying is healthier too!). It also comes with a very nice cookbook for recipes, and its not a little one, so many recipes!!

The Panasonic HomeChef 4-in-1 Multi-Oven Microwave is a versatile and stylish multi-functional microwave oven and more...I only had it for a few days, so I didn’t get a chance to try everything in great detail. It will take weeks to try all of its features thoroughly. It comes with a comprehensive ~ 60 page manual, which I had to refer to a few times as it is not as intuitive as your typical microwave oven until you get used to it. Afterall, it’s not just a microwave, it is also a Convection Oven, Broiler and Air Fryer, all-in-one! Overall build quality is solid, heavier than microwaves bigger in size, well over 30lbs. The stainless steel finish is very stylish, modern looking, but it does seem to be a fingerprint magnet. Panasonic was brilliantly able to cram so much technology in quite a compact package, yet not compromising internal, usable capacity. I would recommend reading through the manual before first use. Just a few pointers: 1. Run the convection oven at 425 F for 10 minutes to burn off the protective shipping oils. 2. Connect it to its own grounded outlet, especially if you plan to use the broiler and other features that will use up to 1,300 Watts. The manual says to connect it to a 20 Amp outlet, which is rather uncommon for countertop outlets, so I connected mine to a 15 Amp for now and will check with an electrician for further guidance. 3. Don’t try to remove the plastic insulators or rubber looking feet that are attached to the air fryer rack, I was tempted to do it, cause I thought they would melt at the high frying or broiler temps but they won’t - I think the manual mentions it somewhere. 4. Do leave enough space all around for airflow and cooling, especially when using the broiler/air fryer oven functions, the sides and back will get very hot to the touch. Now for some pros and cons: CONS: - More difficult to use than your typical microwave or toaster oven - Buttons are slick looking, but that makes them hard to see and use, not backlit - Big door release button feels somewhat flimsy rocking from side to side if you don’t press it in the middle - Control panel surface and buttons are a fingerprint magnet - Noisier than other microwaves, especially during convection/air fryer use - Slower than other stand-alone broilers and air-fryers PROS: - Fast and consistent microwave functions (re-heating, defrosting, etc) - Patented Inverter technology w/Genius Sensor cooking, reheating, turbo defrost, keep warm - 4-in-1 versatile functionality saves countertop space by not having to use additional appliances - Comprehensive user manual ~ 60 pages! - Bonus cooking guide with about 20 recipes printed on photo quality color paper - Spacious interior space to external footprint ratio - Easy to clean stainless interior and non-stick enamel tray - Good size digital display/clock - Stylish looks

Oven: Whatta Knockout! // Manual Needs Work

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

FAST READ: The manufacturer's name says a LOT about this machine! It's a Panasonic so it's going to be an excellent device! The name says it all, and it's DEFINITELY worth the money! The name though should be a 6-in-1 Combination Microwave, Convection, and Broiling and Air Fryer unit because in our experiences, the two combination aspects add additional functionality that significantly increases the utility of this oven. This one unit, will allow us to get rid of a free-standing large air fryer, a separate convection oven/toaster and a large microwave. The gain in counter space is very significant and a big part of the reasons why we chose this machine. We have a very tiny kitchen! There's only ONE BIG negative note -- the manual leaves a fair amount to be desired. Much more on that below. THE DETAILS: Out of the box there were three observations that support the QUALITY of this Multi-purpose oven: 1) The accessories were efficiently packed. Superior design -- fantastic execution, and it all slides out easily. 2) The photo shows the SIX supporting wheels for the essential glass tray. The extra 2 wheels add a significant amount of stability that prevents spillage when removing heavier and hot dishes from the oven interior. This is also a safety gain for kids using the oven that will help prevent burns! 3) The interior photo shows a polished stainless steel interior that we suspect will significantly outlast the more typical enameled steel interiors which in our experiences with some seven or eight stand alone microwaves: the wheel rings ALWAYS seem to wear off the enamel first and that allows rust through the floor of the microwave before it otherwise might fail in use. Chalk this up to being a major potential money saver. There are CRITICAL instructions that you need to be aware of that are buried in the Owners Manual on page 15 that we both feel OUGHT to be emphasized perhaps with an additional bright paper insert. From our observations, these helpful indicators, US style measurements v metric, Language display choice (English, French or Spanish), and "beep" choice (beep on/off), can ONLY be entered the FIRST TIME the unit is plugged into electrical power. We consider this to be a significant oversight in the manual, and oven control design. Worse, IF you miss making your own choices, you don't get a second chance even if you unplug the oven, and then plug it back in again. Apparently there are factory defaults, but those are not mentioned either. So don't overlook this important FIRST STEP and be READY to make your choices. In our family it actually would be more helpful to be able to flip between American style measurements for me, and metric for my spouse! In general the Owner's Manual's utility could be improved by printed "tabs" along the outside edge. This is a machine that has a learning curve, and the manual does not take that into sufficient consideration! It simply is NOT EASY to find a topic -- it's there, but you waste time hunting for it! There is thankfully an incomplete Table of Contents -- however, by the time two people are done flipping back and forth, the manual begins to show wear and could fall apart. At least ONE very important item is totally missing from the Contents!! I saved it for last. The most irritating but necessary function -- our rural location is prone to frequent power outages -- Setting the Clock, is very clear and easy to do! AIR-FRYING: We use this a LOT! We were pleased to discover that the time settings we've grown accustomed to using in a free-standing air fryer so far have held over fairly well. In general we learned to add two or three minutes to the air-fry time we were accustomed to using. The photo showing the fish-and-chips was our first experiment. You can see the before and after for better evaluation. BTW - we found the suggested times in the manual were grossly more than what worked for us. What you see in the photos was accomplished in 12 minutes not 20-30 minutes suggested -- now we use 14 mins. Our freezer stores at -20 degrees f -- so as a matter of cooking efficiency we are talking about a significant increase in food temperature in a relatively short period of time, as verified by the food thermometer we used to check doneness. Second point -- this air-fryer is much more directional than the free-standing unit it will replace. "Flipping" food about 2/3rds of the way through the time allotted for cooking is STRONGLY suggested. We never had to do this with the free-standing unit. BROILING: We found that this works much better with seafood and other very THIN slices or patties of meat. We have not yet tested doing our preferred 1" thick steaks, chops etc. BTW, when broiling fish/burgers with the enameled pan on top of the wire rack -- we found that there is no need to flip the fish/burgers as the pan definitely cooks it swiftly from the underside while the broiling unit cooks from the top. CONVECTION BAKING: So far, there's no significant time difference between the stand-alone unit and the Panasonic. The repetitive pressing of the control to set temperature seems a bit much, but we grew accustomed soon enough. Thankfully we use the higher temperatures and don't usually use the lower temperatures. It is important to be mindful of the number of presses you are using to set the temperature as we discovered if you go lower than what you want there doesn't seem to be an easy or fast way to go UP in temperature to correct an entry mistake. You need to keep pressing "Convection Bake" as many as 21 times to get back to 410 degrees if you miss it the first time around. So easy does it! MICROWAVE: Fairly straight-forward. Again the repetitive pressing to set the desired power, as opposed to a number pad to simply punch it in that most microwaves have. Thankfully in this mode, there are only seven settings to scroll through. Perhaps because we messed up on the initial power on first time settings, we did not find it possible to use the "weight" setting for the microwave use. Probably this is a consequence of missing this instruction is totally missing from the FIRST TIME USE section. COMBINATIONS: These two automated combination functions add an unbelievable amount of efficiency and versatility to this oven! The COST is the time it takes to master these functions, and we found the manual to be needlessly confusing in this area. The combinations are: A) microwave and broiling which is suggested for one-dish meals such as casseroles ( think: cooks the body-browns the top). B) microwaving and convection baking, which is suggested for prepared fast food meals that start out frozen -- freezer-to-oven-to-table so to speak ( think: faster cooking than either separately). Frankly, we found the estimated times to be way to long. This is going to be best to experiment and record your results. Specific example: we love scalloped potatoes! Through experimentation we discovered that starting with the SECOND COMBO "B" for half the overall time, and then SWITCHING to Combo "A" for the browning while the microwave finishes the cooking actually gave us better results than either one combo separately. This possibility isn't even mentioned in the manual! So consider the additional advantages of experimenting!! THE SENSOR REHEAT OR GENIUS FUNCTION: If you love leftovers like we do -- this is as close to a "stick it in the oven and press start" as you are ever likely to find!! It is an incredible, unbelievable function that justifies purchasing this oven all by itself! Grossly under featured in the manual!! You could also think of the time savings in terms of food prep for a party in advance. Warming food for a party is vastly faster than cooking for a party! Essentially you take the leftovers out of the refrigerator, pour 'em out on the appropriate dish -- place it in the microwave, press start. Set the table, pour the wine, talk with guests -- listen for the concluding beeps and that's IT! CONCLUSIONS: This is a single unit that delivers significantly MORE than what you expect! There is an unavoidable learning curve and so long as you ALWAYS FOLLOW the instructions regarding the use of the ACCESSORIES PROVIDED -- you are going to be mightily pleased! After a full week of putting this appliance through its paces -- as the photo indicates, there is one undocumented major health benefit that we discovered: talk about fat reduction!! No fooling -- we collected fat from the various functions as best as we could and in a single week, we were very surprised that we had more than a cup of pure unadulterated fat and drippings that we did NOT eat. That's an enormous amount of food prep, healthful eating! BTW the measuring cup is to show the estimated volume of fat in the jar. One final plus! Ignored in the Contents and buried in the manual on page 42 is one of the BEST features we have ever been presented with that really REALLY saves great galloping gobs of time! It's an auto "Steam Clean" for the interior of the oven. If you have EVER forgotten to clean a microwave and cooked splatters to a fair-thee-well, THIS feature will save your bacon! Which if you will pardon the awful pun, I'm going back to doing! AFTER you master the manual, you are going to LOVE this machine!!!!!

This microwave/ air fryer/ convection oven/broiler works like a dream. Easy to use and clean. It has the same footprint of our old microwave but does so much more. I am recommending it to all my friends and family. Loving it!

This is the highly versatile replacement for our microwave I have been waiting for. An updated combination of a microwave and toaster oven +. The electronics are high end. Highly preprogrammed and sensors that manage many functions. It microwaves, broils, bakes, and airfrys, as well as combines some of these at the same time. You also need an engineering degree to operate it. Actually not so bad but with all these functions the controls are very different from a traditional microwave. Prepare to spend a fair bit of time with the manual. Once you have been through it, it isn't so bad. It works really well and produces results you can't get in a microwave.

Wow! This giant Panasonic Countertop Multi-Oven does so many things. Air Fryer, Convection Bake Oven, FlashXPress Broiler and Microwave all in one. There is nothing "slimline" about this big box. 1.2 cubic foot interior. The outside measurements are 21.5 inches wide, 17.5 inches deep and 13.5 inches high. Seems much larger sitting on my countertop. Inside there is a glass tray, an enamel tray, wire rack with spacers and a wire basket to use for air frying. This comes with a 56 page booklet explaining the various settings, combinations of interior items (Example: to air fry the enamel tray goes on top of the glass tray and the wire basket sits on top of the wire rack on top of the enamel tray with the three legs of the wire rack in the slots on the edge of the enamel tray), etc... An additional 40 page Quick Start guide has a cooking guide and the settings to use. Pictures show the oven on the countertop but also installed in a cabinet with an additional trim kit. There are vents on the left side and back of the oven that vent hot air so I don't see how this could be safe. The fan will run and the screen will say Cooling after even the shortest use of the microwave. It takes 1 to 6 minutes to cool down after use. On the Control Panel there are 6 slim bars that let you choose the type of cooking (Airfry/Broil/Combo, Microwave, Convection Bake, Quick 30, Timer/Clock, Stop/Reset) and a dial with Start/Select and Sensor Reheat. Airfry mode doesn't have a rotating basket like my previous AirFryer so you have to open the door and rotate/turn over/flip the items sitting on the wire basket at the halfway point for even cooking. Convection bake has a preheating function just like my oven. Microwave lets you choose wattage level with each press of the Microwave button starting at 1000 W and reducing to 100 W after 6 pushes.7 pushes changes the microwave to the Keep Warm function for up to 30 minutes after cooking. Quick 30 adds 30 seconds at 1000 W with each push of the button up to 5 minutes. Other options include "Standing Time", Delayed Start, Stage Settings, Sensor Reheat, Auto Cook, Auto Defrost, Convection/Bake Combo, and more. 21 preset programs. The glass tray is supposed to reverse direction if an item gets stuck against the wall while rotating. If you don't like all the Beeps you can change to Silent Mode. I was not expecting to have to use a manual and quick start guide to operate all the functions but after a week of use I have learned the basics of airfrying, microwaving and baking in the convection oven. The screen prompts you for most options but didn't always seem clear to me on first use. If you are looking for an all in one countertop multi-oven, then this might be the one for you. Just keep the manual handy.

    Great Unit! We Love It!

We saw this in the store and took a gamble because of the claimed feature set -- and ended up really liking it! The unit performs well in all modes. We have been impressed by a lot of little fit and finish touches that we otherwise never noticed -- little things like how easy it is to open the door (you don't have to push so hard that the whole unit might shift) -- or the ability to configure the sounds (beeps) it makes to be less obnoxious. At first I was dubious about the lack of number buttons; you set cook time and many options by turning the large knob. (Though for quick settings, there is also a "quick 30 seconds" button that you can push a couple of times to add 30 seconds more -- up to about 3 or 4 minutes total.) I've been surprised how easy it has been for us to get used to the controls -- it turns out not to be a problem for us. Minus one star for potentially confusing instructions. One does need to carefully read and think about the directions in the air fryer and convection modes. The directions are very complete (maybe overly so), but seem not to have been written by or for US English speakers; If you move too fast, it can look like every mode uses all of the included lifter, pan, and basket accessories (but in different configurations). If you're not careful and thoughtful, you can end up using the wrong combination, with unpredictable results. With hindsight, it seems likely the writer was trying to be too complete and ended up being confusing. Even with the instructions, it took a couple of tries for us to get it right in each mode.

    Solid microwave with some caveats

This has been a great microwave for me. I use it for a lot of cooking, and it's held up well. I would go into buying this with the mindset that it's oven feature is not suitable for baking, due to the included rack being too high and close to the heating elements causing very uneven baking. The air frying does work great, and the sensor cook is pretty solid, although it will occasionally make mistakes by overheating some stuff in my opinion.
