Customers love the size, ease of use, and heating speed of this 1.2 Cu. Ft. Microwave with Sensor Cooking. Many appreciate its reasonable price and the overall performance. However, some customers point out the lack of interior lighting and a slightly higher-than-average noise level as drawbacks. What does it take to get a decent microwave these days? The past two microwaves have lasted a year or less. This one is only 7 months and no recourse but to but a new one. Very disappointed!

    This is quite an upgrade...

Our trusty 18 year old microwave had finally kicked the bucket and it was time for a new one, and this one's quite an upgrade. The microwave definitely looks nice, has enough room for relatively large dishes, and has a plethora of features (some of which you may never ever use). Best feature I think is the ability to select different power levels, sensor cooking is also pretty neat. It's not really loud, but it is quite louder than our old microwave. I hope this microwave will last as long if not longer than our old one.

    Going strong 7 years later

Purchased for my parents as a gift when my father finally got around to renovating the kitchen into my mothers dream kitchen. They didn't particularly want an "over the range" microwave, but eventually they decided they did, and instead of replacing a perfectly good microwave, my father actually modified one of the overhead cabinets and made an extension to accommodate the full depth of the microwave, then trimmed the door so the cabinet could open to the shelf above it. It has been going for 7 years and is still going.

    Good basic microwave

So far so good with our new SN661S. Perfect size and heats very well. If we had to complain about something, the stainless finish in front is easily smudged (Panasonic uses a better/fingerprint resistant SS on their higher-end models), and the interior light inexplicably goes off when the over door is opened. Again their better models don't have this problem, nor did our last microvave, a 1989 Panasonic. I think this kind of intentional feature removal is a symptom of bean counters getting the best of a company. Still, overall the issues are minor especially for what the unit costs.

I was not looking forward to microwave shopping after our second one in two years died because they just don't make them like they use to; gone are the days, I feel, when a microwave could be counted on lasting at least a handful of years as opposed to less than one. Anyway, with that said, we decided on this Panasonic and so far, after a month's use, we are glad that we did. It has great power and is the size we were looking for and for a great price. The machine has a good build, with a solid feel to the door/latch/button touch, etc. and the specialized cooking choices are coming in handier than we thought, especially the sensor cooking. For what it's worth knowing, I have yet to ruin anything with over or uneven cooking and have even tried new recipes with success. The only reason I did not give it a full 5 stars is because, like other reviewers, I would like it if the light was on when the door is opened. It isn't that great a deal, but still quite odd that that simple accommodation wasn't met. Despite not having the unit at eye level (it's much lower), the timer reading lights up just fine and is reads clearly. I am not experiencing the difficulties that others have mentioned (perhaps that feature has been upgraded). I cannot vouch for this oven's durability as I have only had it for a month, but how great it would be if I can come back after at least a full year and say, yay! We shall see.

    Great Microwave

Firstly I just wanted to say the 4 stars would have been 5 if I didn't run into a small issue with the microwave a few months after I purchased it. I don't know how but one of the switches that detects if the door is closed went bad. This prevented the microwave from operating. Panasonic promptly helped solve this issue by having the switch replaced at a local authorized repair shop. Do not let this issue I described prevent you from buying this microwave. The unit itself is very nice and pretty quite compared to others on the market. Plus the cooking watts is a big plus. The inside is rather large so you don't have to worry about not having enough space for your food.

i've been using this for 2 days so i've had a chance to use a few of the options. this microwave is probably more than i need, but it has so many features for the "reheater" or "frozen dinner" freak & for the serious gourmet. it has alot of options that make it quite automatic for heating & for defrosting. it's a good size microwave, w/more power than i've had before, so i'm really impressed w/cooking, reheating & defrosting time. at 1st i was pretty intimidated by all the automatic buttons, but they all just make sense, so reading the manual really brought the features home to me quickly. i would agree w/the 1st reviewer -- it really seems kind of dumb not to have the light go on when you open the door, but so far, that's its only drawback. i would have given it 5 stars if that light went on. maybe they'll fix that in the next model. i'm pleased w/this purchase, as i really didn't know what microwave i would bring home when i went to the store. i was open to different models, & for the money, this is a very good buy.

    Solid Microwave

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Seems to be a solid microwave. Powerful, cooks quickly and evenly. Large enough for typical use: heating a frozen entree, reheating leftovers, defrosting frozen food. Much quieter than the older model it replaced, which was pretty loud. Much lighter too. Somewhat plain looking but not an issue. The inverter technology cooks a bit more smoothly at low power but it's no big deal really. Only owned a few weeks so we'll see how reliable it is. On sale for $108 at BB. Great price.

    Excellent microwave for the price

I ordered my microwave online from BB. It was open box and the price was just right for what I was looking for. This replaced an Emerson that I had to change one of the door switchs every year when it would quit working.. always the same switch and I decided to retire it. The new microwave is easy to operate and much quicker at heating food and liquids than the old one. It was a 700Watt where the new one is 1250Watt, As to durability.. that will be determined and I will attempt to repost a review in a few months time

This microwave does what it should do. The only thing about it I dislike is that the light inside only goes on when its cooking. When you open the door or when its done cooking it goes off and there is no way to turn it on. All my other microwaves had the light stay on when you opened the door, this one does not. That is the only negative thing I can say about it.

A little small, can't fit a few things in it b/c of small height but hey that's a trade off of a small footprint. Noisier than my last microwave. The no light when door is opened is annoying, not so much b/c you can't see the food (which you can if you have a light on in the room - how many of us need to microwave in the dark?) but it's not as easy to clean walls and ceiling of the microwave w/o some direct light. Minor point but :"Quick Min" also requires you press Start. Kind of takes some of the convenience out of it like those people who set up a 2 digit speed dial for 911.

    Good countertop microwave

We purchased our Panasonic Inverter countertop microwave back in March of this year and, so far we have no complaints. I like the advanced sensor technology which allows me to press two buttons and walk away to allow it to heat (or reheat) the food items. It's not particularly loud when running and, for our everyday use it's worked out great; both value-wise and function.

    Great Microwave for the price

Bought this on sale this week at BB, it was a great price for a bigger microwave. My old Microwave which was smaller than this died and I was going to ship at Wally World for the replacement but this one caught my eye. I've had it for a week now and no problems. I like how big the size is on the inside and the thing works fine. Hopefully I won't have to replace it in another 5-8 years. For some of the concerns on the other reviews -there is a light when the microwave is running, but no light when you take the food out. No big deal for me as my kitchen is lit well. Noise - my old microwave was actually louder so this is quieter for me in comparison. I don't really notice the sound when it's on. So far so good. Good price for it at BB this week as well. Saved $$.
