I'm a kind of a geek when it comes to this. I have been eyeballing this technology for a few years waiting for my Sharp Carousel to die. Well it's still alive and well, but I rationalized that I needed to give it to my son for college. Just the excuse I needed -- so, that day, I bought my first inverter microwave. What a really neat microwave! Things like oatmeal and rice never overflow. You put meat in to defrost and it looks like you just brought it home from the store. I'm still getting use to the layout, but the dial is really easy compared to a keypad. If you're searching for a new microwave, you gotta give one of these a try.

Broke after 5 months. Panosonic has no way to talk to anyone about a warranty. Dead end everywhere you go.

I finally needed a new microwave, did some research and came across the Panasonic NN-SD987S. WOW is all I can say! I've used it for a month now and I have been thoroughly impressed. The sensor reheat, sensor cook, and turbo defroster are amazing. It cooks everything perfectly every time. I really love the keep warm setting. It is simple to use, easy to understand and looks beautiful in my kitchen.

first one I got the fan did not work, but I had it replaced the next week and I absolutely love this microwave! this microwave is easy and simple with fewer buttons than most microwaves, yet looks nice in stainless steel with the blue lights and display. cooks thoroughly and have no had any problems at all with the new one!

Works well. Lots of power. Looks good. Easy to use. My only complaints are that the sensor reheat overcooks the food and it messes up the wireless signal between my laptop and router. Other than that we are happy with the microwave.

This is a very dependable BEAST! I love it, whether I’m prepping a lot of food for a barbecue or just a simple reheat this machine does it perfectly easy to use controls no stupid gadgets.

This is a great microwave! Solid construction, easy to use and the defrost cycle is the best of any microwave I've owned. Does a super job of defrosting your meat without cooking it (unless you set the timer for too long). It also has a bright display which is easy to read even when the lights are off. I don't do a lot of cooking with my microwave, mostly defrosting and quick reheats, but the few things that I have cooked in it have come out nicely. Also like the dial instead of the number pad because the front of the microwave stays cleaner (no greasy fingerprints all over the number pad). All in all, a great microwave!

I love this microwave. Its very easy to use, and cooks everything perfectly. Im not crazy about stainless steel, but this cleans up really easily. No finger prints, just a simple wipe with a damp towel. Even my eleven yr old grand-daughter can use this oven, and she likes it too. It runs very quite. You wont be disappointed with this oven,

Nice Microwave, cooks fast, lots of room and the only thing wrong with it is the door sticks, will not open when you push the door button to open so you have to pull open from the bottem of door, other than that good microwave oven.

There's a lot to love about this unit. First is the 'power' is continuous, not on-and-off like other microwaves. So for example, if you heat something at 50% power, it is actually at 50% power, not on 50% of the time, then off 50% of the time. Next is the auto reheat feature. At first I was skeptical but it works fantastic if you follow the instructions. Cooking works great too. I not longer steam vegetables as they turn out great in the microwave, It makes great 'baked' potatoes too, for another example. The 'turbo' defrost mode also works great. There are lots of other feature, too. I'm very happy with it and I'm glad I choose this make and model.

Very similar to my 9 year old Panasonic microwave. It never gave me any grief but I replaced it to update the kitchen with the stainless steel version. The new one has some nice additional features -a dial to set time and more one-touch food-specific settings. The popcorn one-touch has worked perfectly each time, as has the turbo defrost. (Check the instruction manual for great tips on defrosting ground meat without cooking the edges.) I also appreciate that the power level you select is continuous throughout the cycle. Everything has cooked evenly and well. I'm very happy with this unit!

We purchased this MW to replace a smaller one that broke (cheaply made) so I wasn't really looking for all the fancy features but I'm really happy I chose this one. The sensor cooking is great for reheating leftovers, just set the dial and it heats it until there is steam coming off the food and then shuts off automatically. The end result is the food is heated to the perfect temperature without having to constantly hover around in front of the MW watching it. It says in the instructions to keep the food uncovered so it can sense the steam and I did have one item that splattered all over inside so I need to figure out what foods I can't use this feature on. The only downside is the size!! This thing is huge and barely fits on our stand.

This is a replacement for a less expensive model that last less than an year. The ease of use is amazing. It is so quiet too. The stainless steel look is great and it cleans so easily.

I’m well pleased with this microwave. The inside is spacious enough for a 9x13” dish which makes reheating a casserole a snap especially when the stove’s oven is in use. The dials are easy to understand and to use. In using the popcorn dial I was surprised by its accuracy for I had few unpopped kernels. The easy dialing for an exact number of seconds needed to cook an item is both fast and simple enough. The unit, even though it’s larger inside, fits well into the space allowed in my cabinet which made me a happy camper.

I am not a real fan of the Panasonic brand but after comparing other different over-the-counter microwave ovens my wife and I decided to try this with BestBuy having the 30 day guarantee. This MW with it's auto sensor feature works really well reheating food evenly. I used to reheat frozen sausages and pancakes separately but not anymore with this MW. But, Sensor Reheat works well only if you don't cover the food inside. If you use a cover, the food may end up hotter than it should since the sensor detects the amount of steam inside. If I do need to use a cover (ex., spaghetti), I use the Less button. Although not a fan of the dial, it works well. It rids of all the numbers. Downside is that 1 second increment is only available for the first 10 seconds, then 5 second up to 1 minute then 10 second increments thereafter. This does not affect our use in reheating that much specially when there is the Sensor Reheat feature. Labels underneath the buttons are very hard to read specially in dim lights. It takes getting used to where the buttons are when using it. The size is bigger than what we had (1.1 cu/ft) but better. While the front is Stainless Steel, the color of the side is silver. Black sides would have worked well for our kitchens black granite top. Although, the blue light matches the lights from our Samsung fridge and range oven. We bought the 3 year extended warranty just in case. It may be the best thing to do based on the other reviews.

The best feature is called Inverter Technology, meaning it can continuously heat, for example, at 40% power. This differs from most microwaves, which would heat at 100% power - in short bursts - 40% of the time. The results are much better. Food cooks and reheats evenly. No burns on top and cold spots in the middle. I can actually defrost frozen meats without broiling them. I have had this unit for around a month so far with absolutely no regrets.

This microwave is very user friendly. It works great, cooks evenly and quickly. The turbo defrost functions well and doesn't cook the edges of the meat.

My wife and I purchased this microwave for the size and Inverter option on 11/11/07. I had read the reviews on here about this model, but it was one of the best options for our family. I decided to pay the $19.99 for the 4 year coverage plan. The microwave worked great for 22 months and today showed the H97message on the display that others have mentioned in their review. I plan to return it and get another one of the same. Hopefully Panasonic has fixed the problem over the past year or so. It is a good microwave for the features but I did not want to trade out every other year like we had in the past. The service plan is the cheaper option to keep a working microwave on hand. If I have any issues trading out and getting a replacement, I will have a followup review on the service plan. I don't expect any issues however as I asked several questions on the replacement if it went bad when purchased. I recommend this microwave, but pay the extra $20 for the service plan to protect yourself!
