Great plasma bang for minimal bucks $$

I have owned plasma tv's for over 10 years. If you watch a lot of sports like I do, then plasma tv is the only way to go because the refresh rate can't be matched by LED's or LCD's. I reccommend setting this tv to game mode to bring out the best in picture quality; followed by some other minor adjustments. The Samsung I owned for the past 8 years just went out and it used to generate a lot of heat and an annoying buzzing sound. I have left this tv on all day, and it barely heats up, with zero buzzing. Even if it only lasts for 5-6 years, I feel it's a great deal.

No "Frills" TV with GREAT picture

I've looked at TV's for the last 2 years and was FINALLY in a position to buy recently. Chose the plasma over LCD/LED because it had the best picture and the best value. A 50" 1080p LCD/LED with a 120hz refresh rate will cost at least $100 - $150 more. The refresh rate of plasma is 600hz. This means no slow down or "pixelation" during sports games or action movies. Glare on sunny days is a bit of an issue, but I was willing to make the trade off to get the biggest possible TV. I recently had my extended family over for a birthday celebration. All other family members have LCD tv's and all family members were impressed with the plasma and said I made a good choice. Nobody complained about glare during the football game - even though it was very sunny outside. When all is said and done - Plasma will give you the best picture performance for the money. If you're looking for TV value...this is it.

Hands Down Best Picture for Your Dollar

I searched through every review on LCDs, LEDs and Plasmas. Plasma is the closest thing I found to tube replacement. Sure LED looks great, but they look too good, if that is possible. They look a bit artificial, to me. Yes, I didn't just read reviews and go buy a TV. I went and looked at them all. Plasmas just felt more "natural" on my eyes. I am going to make it short and sweet. This Plasma has a superb picture and you will no way find a better picture for the price. It looks even better at my house than on the showroom floor. I almost think the picture was set to normal in the store, which is bit darker, than Cinema. I wonder if they do that, because if everyone saw how awesome the picture looked they might not buy the more expensive models. Hmmm? Yes, is cost a bit more to run, but $21 vs $14 for LED is really nothing to even talk about. It only has two HDMI connections, but that is fine for me. I only use a Direct TV box and a Playstation 3. As far a the speakers well, they are okay. The speakers are definitely good, but not great sound and I could get used to it, but I like a bit more punch. It is not by any means horrible sound. I added a sub-woofer and that has helped out in a huge way. Had to add a switch box for the sound between PS3 and DTV. As far as 3D, well that is something I just didn't want or need. The internet stuff is also not my cup of tea. I can get that through other products, like Apple TV or Roku. If you want a great picture for a great price this is it. Best Buy even priced matched Costco for me. Saved me another $100. $599 can't beat it!

For this price and Size ($700/50”) you are not going to find a better deal anywere. This is a Basic huge Amazing TV. Picture quality is absolutely amazing. I don’t need a smart 3D TV (Usually they cost around $300 more), because I already have a Wi-Fi Blue-Ray. The sound is real good too, but if you can improve it if you want. For people who complain about the brightness, do your research or ask for help. For low light rooms, Plasma it’s the best. If you are in a place with a lot of light sources, you probably be better with and LED or LCD TV. Anyway this a matter of personal preference but what I found reading some articles is that Plasma has the best quality picture overall. Set up and menus are easy to work with. The only negative side of this TV is that only have two HDMI inputs. But that’s all I need for now. It also has USB and Media card slot for view your pictures. Please remember to get HDMI Cable as none are included. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. But I will recommend if you want to feel like in movie theater, pair this with a good blue ray player, a good receiver and set of speakers (Home Theater) and I assured you that you don’t be disappointed

I really enjoy the fact that I can use my Xbox 360 and not have the game interupted by a blue screen. (600hz refresh rate) After a year of being frustrated by this happening. I started shopping for something else. For the most part I stream through my Xbox to watch television. Netflix, ESPN, Xbox live, stuff like that. The Panasonic 50' has a great picture with a slight difference. It seems a little darker? This takes a little getting used too. I have welded for many years, so bright things bother me. It was a perfect fit for me. I bought an "open box" so I saved a hundred dollars off of the sale price. It did not have the remote, or manual. Found a remote on line for 14 bucks. This tv was a great deal for 600 bucks. Also picked up a Denon AVR-1513 for the sound. Great set up for the Superbowl this year...

As for the TV, I bought this TV about 3 weeks ago and so far really like it. At first, I thought it was dark but switched it to vivid and was happier. Since then, I have it in Custom mode with Contrast set at 100, Brightness at 60, Color at 50, Tint at 0 and sharpness at 50. These settings seem to work for most of our program watching. I replaced a 720p 42" LCD which was pretty good too, but I was getting annoyed with the motion shadows when watching sports programs. This plasma TV is a big improvement. When I first turned on the TV, the picture seemed blurry. I was really nervous about this. However, after about 30 - 60 minutes, the objects in the picture were more in "focus". Every now and then, I notice this blurry picture right after turning the TV on. As for the sound, I was prepared for poor sound from the start and bought a Sony HT-CT150 sound bar ($240) with the savings from the tv purchase. So, for less than a $1000, I got a 50" tv and sound system. The Sony works really well. I like it a lot. It has three HMDI ports. I bring the cable box and DVD player into the Sony sub-woofer and use the Cable remote to control everything. There was a learning curve for the family to get through to control everything. Actually, they are still learning. I had to set the tv on two, 2" patio pavers to get the tv up above the sound bar. This allows the tv to get the signal to turn on and off from the remote. This solved having to stand up to turn the tv on. You also have to be very patient and keep pointing the remote at the tv long enough for remote to cycle through all the devices to turn them on and off. I'll probably disconnect the sound system when my mother or mother-in-law dog sit for the weekend. They'll never figure it out. As for the GLARE! I was really nervous about this since the tv is in our family room with side windows and back lighting. We typically only watch tv in the evening with the curtains shut. So, the windows haven't been an issue. If the computer monitor is on, which is at the back of the room, I can see it in the picture. However, I only see it when I think to look for it. If I'm just watching tv, I don't notice anything in the background. So, this has been a non-issue. All and all, I'm happy with my purchase. I'm debating whether I need to purchase a programmable remote. Having to switch to the AUX device on the remote to change the sound level and then back to the CABLE device to operate the DVR and TV is sort of a hassle. I'm okay with it, but has been the biggest issue for the family.

I bought this TV after some research, including viewing at a store and talking with a relative who owns a Panasonic plasma TV. I had purchased a new TV stand to replace an aged entertainment center which would only accomodate a 26" Panasonic flat screen LCD. So naturally, I had to get a new TV to put on this stand. Seriously, I have less than perfect eyesight, and it had become difficult to read screen graphics, so I needed a larger TV just to enjoy the experience again of watching sports, movies, etc. The picture on this TV is really awesome. The only change I made to the picture settings so far is from standard to cinema setting, which seems to be a little brighter. I have noticed some background reflections from certain angles, but it's only really apparent when the scene is a darker lit scene with a lot of shadows and darker colors. I knew this was a downside of plasmas and the glass screens, but I think the trade off for the picture quality and image size are worth it. For many of us that was norm with CRT TV's until the LCD's came along. I'll continue to play around with the settings to find the best fit for me and my viewing habits and conditions. One odd thing. I have a set-top HD cable box w/remote. When I programmed the remote to control the power and volume on the TV, it somehow disabled 3 functions of the cable box remote. I reset the cable remote to default and the problem was fixed. I tried again and the same thing happened. As I said, odd. I'll contact my cable supplier next week about it. A minor complaint. This TV only has 2 HDMI inputs. I don't use more than 2, but if I had a game console, it would be a drawback. My 3 year old 26" Panasonic has 3 HDMI's and a S-Video, which this unit also lacks.

This was my first purchase of a flat panel HD television. My old tv was one of the last "big box" 27" Sony Vega's ever produced lol. After a lot of research I decided that I wanted a simple plasma tv. I have no use for the smart or 3D features and I find the picture quality on LED's to be annoying. I could not believe how easy this tv was to set up. I never want to see a/v or coaxial cables ever again!! Once the tv was set up adjusting the picture was easy. I really like the cinema setting for all programming, as the standard setting was a little to dark. The colors are rich and warm, but not obtrusive and cartoonish like the LED's The black's are amazing and I have not had any problem with the white's as others have reported. So far the tv has been quiet and has not put out a lot of heat. I find that the sound quality is fine if the tv is in a small room like a bedroom, but the quality goes downhill the louder you turn it up (sounds thin). I also bought a sound bar that is on back order, but I will use the regular audio for normal programming and use the sound bar for sports, concerts, and movies. I cant believe how good sports look in HD!!!!

My husband and I bought this TV because of the name and quality of the brand. We went in just looking and wound up buying because of the great sale price. It doesn't do all of the fancy stuff like some of the new TVs but we decided we didn't need that yet. It has a great picture and is very easy to use but sometimes on certain shows the sound is too low and we have to turn on the surround system or turn up the TV past 30. I do wish that it had one or two more HDMI hook up but right now it's just fine for what we have. Other than that we absolutely love this TV.

    Great Deal!

First of all, my primary flat panel is a Pioneer Kuro. Need I say more? Why they got out of the plasma business is beyond me because their panels were the industry standard. I hope mine keeps on ticking because there will be no more. This entry level Panasonic is for a "bonus room" in my house. You know, the proverbial room over the garage - too small for a den and too funky for a bedroom. I didn't want 3D because I get dizzy after about five minutes of that at a theme park. This is the last of the "basic" plasma panels. Not so fast - it's not that basic. Sure, the sound is not superb, but if you hook it up to a 5.1 home theater system, you'll never need what came with it. The picture is great. Not as many adjustments as the Kuro, but not 3K either. Black levels are close to Kuro. That makes sense since Panasonic bought the technology when Pioneer got out of it. If 3D and bells and whistles are not vital to you, get this panel. It will save you a bundle and bring you a lot of enjoyment. This is serious man-cave material when you want to get away from everybody and watch a game in peace. It is probably the last of the great deals from a major manufacturer. Come on - do you really want to buy a bunch of 3 D glasses to watch the same DVD over and over???

Since my Blu-Ray player has all the smart features, I was simply looking for a plain vanilla monitor. After reading lots of reviews, the Panasonic TC-P50U50 was the winner. And since it was on sale at Best Buy with a 24-month no-interest option, AND free delivery, I snagged it. BB came out, un-boxed it, hooked it up, turned it on and showed me a few basic options on the TV. Hats off to the delivery team. I was immediately impressed by the clarity of the picture. I've had it for two weeks now and am just as impressed every time I turn it on. A couple of things: Yes, the screen is very reflective, but my living room is very dark. And yes, it's not as bright as LED monitors, but I'm not looking to get a tan while watching TV. But the picture with a 600hz refresh rate blows them away. Also, I was worried that the sound would be bad, but as it turns out it was much better than I anticipated. You would have no problem in an average size living room. I eventually connected it to my A/V receiver and now "thunder rolls." In conclusion, if you're looking for a basic HDTV with an outstanding picture, you'll definitely want to consider this one. It blows away any LED TV that I've seen in this price range. Way to go Panasonic!

    Great Non-3D TV

I was out to purchase a 3D TV with the smart features (apps, browser, etc) but came across this TV for $200 less than the 3D one I was looking at. I tried out the 3D demo at Best Buy and wasn't impressed at all and after actually thinking about it, a Smart TV wasn't a necessity with my PS3 connected to it. Long story short, I've only had this TV for a little while but so far I'm extremely impressed with it. I previously had a 42" Phillips LCD which has held up tremendously well but wasn't great for gaming due to input lag. This TV is great for timing sensitive gaming such as MLB The Show or first person shooters. (Seriously, just go to Best Buy, stand back and watch all of the TV's since they are all connected to the same output. You can noticeably tell the difference as this TV switches between scenes way before the others.) Movies are amazing. The black levels blow away my old TV, and the colors are much more natural out of the box compared to my self-calibrated Phillips. Again, so far very impressed. If anything comes up I will update as needed.

    Best Budget Gaming TV

I was mainly looking for the best TV within my budget that played and looked great on Xbox. I am also a fan of MMA (mixed martial arts) and NBA so I wanted a TV that looked clear and detailed for live broadcasts. I spent hours researching reviews and forums and came to the conclusion that this specific Panasonic plasma was THE best model for having the best gaming experience for the price. Very high refresh rate so game response is quick, which is a plus when playing online multiplayer. It also has preset settings for gaming which I used and just tweaked a little bit to my taste. When I was comparing this TV alongside the Samsung 50" to my human eye I could see no distinct difference. Quality was just as good, if not better. Due to it's high refresh rate, I noticed the same video feed that was being playing on all TVs on display, the other models delayed slightly behind this Panasonic. Again, high refresh = better gaming. It's not the best end all gaming model obviously BUT it's the best in this price range. Not to mention pretty sweet picture for live sports!

I wanted a great high definition picture without all the frills for viewing direct tv and occasionally watching a dvd or blu ray movie on my home theater system. This set fits the bill ! One thing that is very important to get the best picture out of this set is to add a high speed HDMI cable to your connection. I initially used a standard HDMI cable & the picture was good- but not great. The high speed cable made a noticeable difference in color saturation, contrast and definition. High speed cables cost less than $10 if you shop around. I read as many reviews as I could before purchasing the TCP50U50 and noticed the experts liked to tweak the custom and cinema settings. I did that when I got the set, but found a better picture on directv by adjusting the standard settings. Here are mine for you to try. Panasonic Direct TV TC-P50U50 Settings: Picture Mode: Standard Contrast: 85 Brightness: 40 Color: 40 Tint: +2 Sharpness: +10 Color Temp: Normal Color Management: On CATS: Off Video NR: Off Block NR: Off Mosquito NR: On Black Level: Light 3:2 Pulldown: On AUDIO: Bass: +12 Treble: 0 Balance:0 A.I. sound: On Surround: Off Bass Boost: On Volume Leveler: 0 I didn't expect much from down firing speakers to begin with, but these do better than I expected. I hope this helps someone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this TV for my gaming room. Love the size and pic quality. PRICE, Screen size and pic quality were most important. Built in Speakers are not great but using my surround system, that was expected .Money not wasted on TV internet or App extras....but not needed. PS3 handles the extras. TV is smooth, picks up all the extra HD channels that I get free through cable. Channel programming very easy and smart. Decent pic quality control options. Has 2 HDMI ports and that's all I need. Like the USB media option. Easy to use. Wish I could edit and delete through the TV's USB media options....but cannot. Overall, I got exactly what I paid for and expected.

this is a great tv. we went to best buy for cyber week deals (which they did in store too) initially we bought a samsung led bc we had heard great things, but within watching 1 night of sports we couldn't handle it... it was very pixilated and sports kind of cut out sometimes. so the next day we exchanged it for this panasonic plasma screen and we LOVE it! its got such a clear picture and its a great size, we got a great deal on it and i couldn't be happier. i usually don't review things so that shows you how much i like this tv. the only problem is my husband would like more ports, he had to buy an adapter to be able to plug his gaming headphones in...

My original Panasonic 50" G20 was hit by lightning. I originally purchased an LG plasma but the picture quality was poor at best even after a calibration. The Panasonic is a no frill plasma with a better than average picture after minimal adjustments. Minimal adjustments are the key words as this tv has very little adjustments available. However the picture quality is quite good for it's price point. The G20 had Netflix, Pandora etc plus three hdmi inputs, 2 component inputs and 2 composite inputs. The P50U50 has 2 hdmi inputs, 1 component/composite input. It is not internet connectable. All in all if you want a no frills plasma with a good picture I would not hesitate to recommend it.

The TV is great, I was kinda bummed when I spent so much on it and then it went on sale for $100 less about 5 weeks later but I've enjoyed my purchase so far. Easy to use, easy to personalize, love the sound quality and the picture is great. If you bought this TV and the tech or sales person didn't tell you about plasma TVs and how their picture may be bad with too much natural light, then you may complain about picture quality but all you have to do is reduce the amount of natural light coming into the room where the TV sits and your picture is top notch. Of course there are TVs with better picture but are you going to pay the $2000 for them? At under $900, this was a good buy.

I own a Sports Bar in Wisconsin. Almost 2 years ago I purchased 4 of these tv's. All 4 are running from open to close which averages out to about 15hours a day of constant use. That is almost 5500hours of use a year so these tv's are going on just under 11000 hours of use! Mind you we are a sports bar and only watch certain stations all day... Knock on wood in 2 years I have not experienced a logo burn in on any screen, the sound is just as good as when we bought it, and the colors are just as bright the day they got hung. If you like bold colors and truly dark blacks then plasma is the only way to go. I would highly recommend these tv's especially for the price to anyone who is looking in the 50in range. I know that if any of these tv's in the next year or two go I will defiantly be buying another Panasonic replacement!

Bought this today as an upgrade from 32" Sharp LCD. Did my research and gave it lots of thought whether I should get LCD, LED or Plasma. The picture is excellent with my FiOS TV and Apple TV. As with all sound on flat screen TV's, it's not horrible but not amazing either. Sales associate mentioned that I should probably get a sound bar or theater system. (Tried to haggle, but it didn't work). Next purchase will be a sound bar. They are fairly inexpensive. Don't need anything top of line. Overall, so far an excellent TV.
