This is an easy user friendly equipment. Plug & Play! The 4K is making my TV set (also Panasonic) using high res-Audio DVD/CD/3D Blu-Ray player a blast! Super sharp and clear! Very vivid! And you can stream your shows with Rj-45 or wireless input, or surf the net, very cool indeed. We needed an upgrade and this is an impressive machine.

    Works Great with JVC Projector

I purchased this to go with a JVC 8K laser projector. I purchased it because of its' recommended compatibility with JVC and the settings allow me to specifically indicate it is connected to a projector. I like that it has a dedicated HDR button that lets me quickly change the level of brightness with HDR content. I like that the settings allow me to make lots of other changes like upping the brightness on 3D movies. I have two main gripes with this player. First the remote control is horribly designed. I am constantly pushing the wrong button by mistake because of the awkward button layout. And second this player only has Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime available as the major streaming services. There is no option to add more like Hulu or Disney+ or the other popular streamers. While I wish this model had Dolby Vision, no projector can do Dolby Vision anyway. The player can do HDR10+ which is a nice alternative and makes up for the lack of Dolby Vision, although few programs are in HDR10+. Overall I am very happy with this player and I have alternatives to make up for anything this player can't do.

I tried multiply 4k players and this is the best one....simply because the Panasonics optimizer feature is stunning.....gives HDR movies that Wow factor. Only downfall.....no Dolby Vision....if you want Dolby Vision, you have to step up to the ub820 and the price almost doubles. But, if you own a Samsung TV....then this is perfect since Samsung cant display Dolby Vision......makes this the best 4k player for all the Qled lovers !!

I first bought the #820 Model. Great picture. Great everything. It was so good with my 75" series 9 Quantum Dot HDR TV that it was on 24/7. SO......I bought its little brother to give it a rest. (BUY EXTENDED WARRANTEES). Note: I do not feel sorry for people that do not buy extended warrantees, these things are made in China. (If it was made in the USA it would cost $1000.00 and still could fall apart.) Back to review...The little brother the #420 has the exact same GPU (guts inside). Same picture and same sound. I only use HDR10+ so Dolby Vision is not an issue. I also think that anything "Dolby" is like "THX". Just a brandname to charge more money. OH' and the remote is even the same. I got a small quiet fan to put in back, all these players run hot and caring for them, keeping the discs clean and wiping down with a anti-static will prolong the life for a long time. It has been 3 weeks with this player running 24/7 (my dog watches the TV) and ZERO problems. Cheers!

Using an Xbox One S for 4k movies vs this player, Panasonic wins. HCX processor makes HDR really shine, and with the HDR Optimizer I can adjust picture quality through the player and not my tv. I'm not even mad about it not playing Dolby Vision. I'm using an LG Nano Cell and the fact that this player allows me to chose my tv type for optimal settings was just a bonus. I've watched a few reference disc and I was FLOORED. Black Hawk Down, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood all looked outstanding. Billy Lynn's Long Halftime in 4k 60FPS on this player is amazing. Words of Wisdom I leave my player unplugged when not in use since it does get a little warm when it's off. I have a Panasonic SA-XR25 receiver and that remote works for the DP-UB420 and vice versa. I'm using the coaxial for audio and PCM output is outstanding. Without upgrading my 6.1 system, I noticed the sound improvement. This player is a beast. I had a Panasonic Plasma TV and I loved it. Hooking this player up to my current TV, satisfied my 4k HDR needs. Now I need Panasonic to start selling more products like their TVs in the US again. Dedicated Panasonic Buyer

Excellent 4K player at an unbelievable price point. This player may not have Dolby but don't let that cause you to not drop a couple Franklins on this player. It comes close to matching the capabilities of it's high priced cousin at a fraction of the cost. The remote is somewhat cumbersome but the picture quality more than makes up for that shortcoming. The picture reproduction on a 77" S90D are amazing accurate with vivid detail, no lag noticed and no perceptible noise. As one of the few manufacturers still producing players, Panasonic has made a budget friendly, top tier player that checks almost every box.

I bought this player on sale from the Best Buy website and had it delivered. It arrived on time, so I was very happy about that. Unboxing and hooking up the player also went pretty quickly. Once I powered the player on I did the typical plug and play settings that you do with most devices nowadays. I also performed a software update during this time, which did take a bit of time to complete. So far, I have watched 3 blu-rays with this unit. It performed very well with really great picture and sound quality. I have not tested or used the networking functions of this unit yet. My 4k TV has internet functions built in, so I stream using the TV itself. I probably won't really use the player's networking features for that reason. The small footprint of this player is nice, so it can fit in smaller spaces. Build quality is just ok, but I do like the design of the remote. I prefer the design of this remote over the one that comes with many Sony players. One feature that I really like is the ability to choose your own background for the home screen. While this player will not be as nice as many of the higher end Panasonics or Sony's, it is a great deal for those who want a player that isn't the most entry-level, but not so high end that it will break the bank. So far, I am pretty happy with this unit.

DVD (BlueRay) players aren’t as good as they were back in the 1990’s. A few years ago I bought a Sony BlueRay player that was awful!! I love Panasonic and when I saw this BlueRay player advertised, I immediately purchased it. It’s not perfect, but its MUCH better than the Sony. The Panasonic has power and ejection buttons that are mechanical and actually work (I don’t end up with discs stuck in the machine). When it starts up, it’s easy to navigate to what you want to do (you don’t have to wade through a huge list of streaming services just to get to the video option like with Sony. It’s FIRST on the list). I have yet to have the computer in it get “confused” about what it’s doing, like happens with Sony. The only negative experience I’ve had so far is one disc part way through stopped playing and the player did lock up. I had to manually eject the disc to resolve the issue. In fairness, it probably was a bad disc, not the player itself.

I purchased this Blu-Ray from Best Buy before, and it works well with my Home Theather System. This is one of the reasons I purchased another one as a backup as Blu-Ray players will eventually go away "not" right away and it will not be available for repair/replacement. Compared to other Blu-Ray players in the market this is most economical in price and eventually will "no" longer be available. This Blu-Ray performs well in Home Theather System and I recommend it to anybody who is looking for a less expensive player.

The gentlemen who came out to set up our system - 75" TV, universal remote, sound bar, DVD player, and cable box - were amazing! They came in and got started immediately. They were so efficient and completed the work beautifully! They carefully gathered up all the boxes and materials and took it with them. Once everything was hooked up, they made sure Prime and Netflix were connected and then took time to show me how the universal remote worked. I can't say enough good things about this service

Bought this to accompany a new 4K HDR tv and to replace my aging Sony UHP-H1 player that only offered 4K up scaling and not true UHD playback. So far I’m very happy! The menus are a little daunting(and coming from a Panasonic plasma, very familiar looking. Still better than Sony BDP menus IMO), with many options for tweaking the picture, but most of them can be left to factory defaults. Where this player shines is with the HDR Optimizer which on my low brightness television does a very nice job of tone mapping those super bright HDR highlights into something my TV can actually digest and display and without blowing out detail. You can even tweak the dynamic range to brighten the overall image on dimmer sets like mine while still retaining specular highlight detail, which is amazing. Makes a little noise on startup reading 4K discs but during playback it’s very quiet. The remote is annoying and you absolutely will inadvertently hit the Netflix button more than you should. Haven’t had one freeze-up or disc that caused issues with the player and the image quality is indeed an improvement over my old player.

I really like Panasonic Blu-Ray players for their quality and versatility. I still own some 3D Panasonics from pre-2010 and they work beautiful. These are real workhorses and the pictures look awesome, even on my old ones. You can't go wrong buying one of these. One thing that I did find out is I don't recommend using the Quick Start feature as I found the player was continually warm. Almost too warm across the top even when you aren't using it. Once I turned that off in settings it's just as it should be. I highly recommend these players and I will buy no other brand.
