Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the outstanding picture quality and the various HDR options available on the 4K Ultra HD Streaming Blu-ray Player. The upscaling feature is also praised for improving the quality of older Blu-ray discs, and the backlit remote is appreciated for its convenience. However, some customers mention the price as a drawback and the lack of SACD support.

    UB9000 the top level 4k Blu-ray player

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The UB9000 is the top tier 4k player in the market today. It is built like a tank and weighs 17 lbs. It has all of the bells and whistles for both video and audio.....as such, it is the most expensive of the Panasonic line. I purchased it because I wanted this top line 4k player as my final purchase to my home theater set up. Many of you will be happy with the UB820. For the price difference, this makes perfect sense and you can't go wrong with it, or even the UB420 for budget minded folks. You likely have already read everything about the 9000, 820, and 420, so I do not need to repeat anything here. IMO, you can't go wrong with any of these, I went for the 9000 due to its sturdy build and added audio options. Value, like beauty, is in the eye....or wallet...of the beholder. That is why from a value perspective, I rated it 4 stars rather than 5. The $ difference between the 9000 and 820 is significant. I will not argue that.

Broke After 6 Months, Costly to Repair

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Be very wary of purchasing this item, as the warranty is very brief, and the quality of parts is shoddy. Be prepared to spend big $$$$$ to get it repaired. I ordered this item in October of 2022. I was more or less quite pleased with it, and felt that while it was remarkably expensive, the quality was quite good for audio and visuals on a 77 inch OLED TV with a high end soundsystem. However, after about 5 and a half months, the disc tray stopped ejecting discs. Given that this is the most essential function of any disc player, I was really disappointed in the quality of parts. For a top of the line blu ray player, one can fairly expect the basic functions to work. Not the case here. The fact is, manufacturers know how long their products hold up for, and they address the product warranty based on that knowledge. There is a 3 month labor warranty, and 6 month parts warranty. That's laughable for a product of this price. But it goes to show the quality you'll get for the price. Fortunately, I was within the parts warranty by a matter of days. I had to ship the blu ray player back to Panasonic at a cost of $95 dollars with the proper insurance through UPS. They did turn it around quickly, in about a week after they received it. And boy am I glad I was within the parts warranty...because the cost of the two parts that needed replacing? $407 for a new "BD Drive" and a new "PC Board, Digital." The cost for labor to repair this was $90. Plus the shipping, it cost me $185 to repair this after less than 6 months of use. I can't in good conscience recommend this disc player given the experience, and the brief warranty. When working, it does a good job. But is it reliable? No. And is it worth the price? Definitely not. There is a reason Panasonic was once a major player in the North American electronics market, but no longer. Stay away if you value quality, reliability, and value.

    Good product so far

I had this player only for one month. I chose it because I needed one with analog out for sound ,4 channels I use preamps and power amps. My oppo 203 has problems with some 4K discs. I like the fact that I can lower the sound volume and still hear the dialogs, oppo lacks this feature. Set up is straightforward although you have to read what you are doing and test what you like. Better colors , plays my cds reasonable well, using RCA outlets no difference compared to Oppo 203 however it doesn’t play my sacds . Panasonic stated that wasn’t enough room for playing sacds. If they would have increased the height this player would not fit between my tv set and my stand. This would be something that I wouldn’t like. Is well packed but the box looks like traveled a lot or stayed on a shelf for long period of time. I might be subjective because Oppo and Pioneer are out of this business, universal players with analog out channels Panasonic was my only option. It matches my expectations.

Without getting too technical the UB9000 does most things right. The unit is well built. It has many inputs to use across devices. It loads discs quickly and produces a top notch picture for all video sources. Be it regular DVD, Blu-Ray, or 4K content. I’d even argue the player is superior to the Oppo UDP-203, but that’s for a different review. Overall, this is a great player that is well worth the cost.

I purchased two of these units and the build and picture quality of the UB-9000 is the best Blu-Ray player on the market. I plan on buying a third unit when I purchase another TV. I currently have one connected to a DLP home theatre projector and the other to my older Panasonic Plasma TV thats still going strong after 10 years. I wish the UB9000 played SACD's, but you can't have everything.

Super 4k player. Falls short as universal player

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Superb picture and sound as a source for your 4k movies. However, it doesn't really compare to universal players (such as Oppo) as this lacks universal compatibility. There's no SACD or DVD Audio...that's a shame because it has 7.1 analog outputs that would probably let this player's DACs shine on this type of media. Hopefully the next generation will offer a universal player (and a real replacement for the Oppo).

    Panasonic - Japanese Masters

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

As the fans of the former king of blu-ray are aware, OPPO has stopped production of blu-ray players. Panasonic, old school Japanese awesomeness, has stepped up to the plate and created the finest blu-ray player on Earth to date. This new model is a real machine - heavy - first class in all regards - a work of art. Picture quality is amazing. One thing I want to mention is that Netflix on this unit is stunning - having separate audio and video hdmi outputs allows you to have the BEST in picture and sound quality. Connect this to your brand new SONY 4K OLED and you will smile.

    4K UHD Playback Issues

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Over the last several months I have started experiencing playback issues with some 4K UHD Blu-ray discs. When I insert the disc the player will try to read it and then ultimately give a cannot read disc message I usually have to eject and re-insert the disc several times before it will play. This does not occur with all 4K discs and does not happen when playing DVD or regular Blu-ray. Panasonic has not given this player a new firmware update since September. 2021. For such an expensive player retailing for over $1000.00, Pansonic has seemed to abandon this player.

I have used devices made by several other manufacturers (including Oppo) and none of them were as good as this device. You will see and hear things that were previously unseen and unheard. The build quality is remarkable, unlike the many lightweight units being sold now. It is expensive, but you will never want a different one.

DN"T BUY THIS - YOU WILL BE DISSAPOINYRD

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Where to start? First don't believe the five star rating. I have read other reviews calling this a piece of crap - they are being kind. I own two OPO 203's and one Sony UBP 1100ES. I bought the 900 as a backup when my OPPO started having trouble. First it freezes when it feels like it, Secondly it can't change chapters to save it's life. Even worse is the fast forward. You need to push the button three times for it to respond. It's not quick and responsive. You can hear it struggle it's that bad. My Sony UBP 1100ES flies from one chapter to the next cleanly as an example. It also has a box in the bottom left hand corner telling you which chapter you are at. The 900 has a two step nonsense on the poorly designed remote. Now for the remote, another piece of crap. First the tray button is directly below the on/pff button. it is small and just barely is higher than the face of the remote. The tray is grindy when it moves out and in. Poor, Poor quality. The only good thing I can say is it is heavy. Buy the Sony UBP-1100ES. It costs $600 and blows this dog by miles.
