Easy and fun, but beware
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Charge it. Download the app. Fly. It doesn’t get any easier! Photos are gorgeous, and flying is just plain fun. Until you realize there is nowhere legal to fly a drone in or around your city. This is an expensive and well made toy. It’s durable (ran right into a tree trunk and came away unscathed). It includes extra propellers and a very handy carrying case. Controller uses your phone to make flying and video a cinch. But again—there’s nowhere to fly! Do your research prior to purchasing and make sure you have somewhere to actually have all the fun the Parot is capable of. We are planning some little day trips out of state to get the most out of this device. It’s a super nice and fun contraption.

ANAFI Parrot Drone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first time I have flown a drone. Very responsive. I was impressed with the size and the battery life. The remote control is very nice and feels durable. The drone itself is very light weight. It has the app to use on android or IOS device. Very user friendly. Can't wait until I can take it out to the lake house to take some great pictures with the 4k camera.

Perfect for Beginner and Advanced
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a serious novice when it comes to drones. The closest I ever came was a little helicopter that I would fly from the coffee table to the counter. (If I took it outside, it would blow away if a mouse farted on the next block.) So when I say novice, you know what I mean. The ANAFI by Parrot is simply amazing. I would rather be able to give it 4.5 stars instead of 4. As a beginner, I was able to read the quickstart guide, browse the app/software required to use it with your smartphone, read a few short PDFs from the Parrot website, and boom, I was ready to fly. There are two reasons why I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars. While I would have read all of the above mentioned media prior to flying anyway, due to the length of time it took to charge both the drone and controller, I had MORE than enough time to read all that documentation. My understanding is that it would charge faster with a USB-C port or A/C adapter, but sadly, all my USB ports are A as well as my A/C adapter. It took about 6 hours to fully charge everything before I could take it on it's first flight. I really wish, for the cost of the drone, Parrot would include a USB-C A/C adapter, and perhaps a charging cable that is more than 6" long. The only other reason I would take away a star is for the clunky and, shall we say, industrial manner in which the MicroSD card is stored in the drone. It comes with an adapter, but that is only for computer use. The drone itself has a metallic trap door under the battery where the card is held and it is not difficult to get to, but difficult to replace. Surely they could have included an easier way to access the card. Other than those two small complaints, I absolutely love this drone. The first videos I got with it were crystal clear The video/photo settings/features are easy to understand. The Free Flight 6 app is great and they're improving it constantly. I can't wait to get this thing out in the wild and really open it up. For now, my flights have been limited to my backyard, but I'm sure it will be even better when I do make it out there. I highly recommend, even if this is your first drone.

Horrible... it crashed without reason
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just going for a month being used, the drone crashed without reason. Parrot has not responded what to do. Parrot had been asking things that I cant submit since the drone is not working anymore. Horrible.

Pretty Awesome
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Parrot has really outdone themselves with this ANAFI drone. It is very powerful and suprisingly quiet. Very easy to setup and the controls when using it are very easy to learn. The camera is also great. The 4k video is crystal clear. I'm very happy with this drone. Well done Parrot.

Had problems with camera, no support
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really excited to be getting a drone with great video and picture capability. I was impressed with the packaging, and the drone appeared to be solid build quality right out of the box. I got the drone and controller all charged up, downloaded the app, did the update, and took it out for it's first flight. First flight - everything seemed to be working fine, but I couldn't figure out how to get the camera to pan up and down. After all, that is one of the major benefits of this particular model. I continued to fly for about 24 minutes anyway and put it back on the charger while I tried to figure out the camera. It turns out I was using the right button, it just wasn't responding. After un-installing the app and re-installing it; re-pairing the drone to my phone, and pulling the battery 4 times, it finally worked! Time for another flight! Second flight - I tried the launch mode this time, which is pretty cool. You basically throw the drone and it just stops and hovers in that spot. While it was hovering I tested the camera button, and the camera was moving! So off I sent the drone to get a picture of a beautiful sunset. I sent it straight up about 100 ft and snapped some pics. Then I brought it back down to about 20 ft and flew around for a minute. The drone was about 40ft away, at 20ft, and I still had a good video feed. It was starting to get dark and mosquitoes were out, so I pulled the stick back to fly it back in my direction. It started coming back, and as it got closer, I released the stick. It didn't stop. I pushed full forward on the stick. It didn't stop. I hit the Return Home button. It didn't stop. It hit a tree limb. It stopped. Then it fell 15-20ft into the grass and landed upside down. One small piece of plastic had broken but it was otherwise intact. I pushed the power button and it started right up. The propellers did their little movement and the camera panned around. Seemed like I was all set, although I was a little nervous that the drone has a supposed 2 mile range and at 20ft it was un-responsive. I launched it again and noticed I had no video feed. I can move the camera, but there is no picture. If I pan all the way down and push the button to take a picture, the camera just goes back to it's default position. So as of now, I have a really expensive quad-copter that can't take picture or video. I reached out to Parrot support 4 days ago seeking to troubleshoot this before I wrote a review. I've had no response. So I give it 2 stars because when I had those 5 minutes or so where everything was working, I could see the promise of this drone. The build quality is good as well. But lack of response from Parrot tech support, issues out of the box that a less technical person might not have been able to sort out, and losing the connection 20ft away, are why I deducted 3 stars. My neighbor has a DJI Mavic and has been able to fly it over a mile away from my back yard with no connection issues. It's possible that I just got a dud. Other reviews appear to be loving the drone. But for the cost of these, if you get one and it has any issues out of the box, don't try to troubleshoot it. Return it immediately. By the time support responds to you, you might be out of the return period.

So small, quiet, and very promising
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just picked this up at my local store yesterday. Got to do a little bit of testing today (too windy though to do more) and have to say that I'm very pleasantly surprised. The box itself is so small and that alone got my excited for this as I was looking for a compact drone for travel. I already own a Phantom 4 Pro so I have experience with DJI. I chose to look into the Anafi versus the smaller DJI drones because it was different (zoom, form-factor, upwards view, etc). I've also had issues in the past with the Android DJI app not being usable at all so that's left a bad taste (I use an iPad mini while flying the P4P). Anywho, love the small case it comes in. The controller is a little bigger and perhaps could have been smaller, but hey, can't complain too much. Controller feels nice and love that it just turns on and off by opening and closing the phone mount. As far as the drone, it is definitely lighter and it makes you question build quality due to the lightweight. The anafi has a unique shape so I felt like I had to learn how to hold it properly (not putting pressure on blades and other parts) while removing the battery and unfolding it, etc. After handling it for some time, I felt more used to it. Setup was a breeze. Firmware updates were a little sketchy though (app hung at the last bit of the progress bar for both firmware updates - I hit cancel after maybe 10 minutes and found out firmware updates were successful). After that though, flying was a breeze. I have to note that the default flight settings do need some tweaking (rotation is awfully slow by default for one). After some adjustments I'm glad to say it feels very nice. Compared to my P4P, I would definitely say my P4P is more stable - I flew inside my garage for a test (out of the heavy gusts) and would still see the drone drift vertically and horizontally (usually leaning towards one side). I trust my P4P to pretty much stay in place (for the most part) as I take pictures, but I feel like I couldn't trust the Anafi in tight spots without hands on the controls ready to correct it. This isn't quite a big deal to me as I don't plan to fly this in tight spots anyways and will fly this in more open areas. One other thing I noticed was a bit of jitter at times when doing horizontal panning, an issue I've heard about from other users. We believe it's due to the EIS system and I think that's something that will be improved upon with firmware updates in the future. I definitely need to do more testing, but I'm already sure I'm going to keep it and pre-order some extra batteries as I think this is going to be a great travel drone. For the price, the size and features like the lossless zoom and extra camera tilt, this just fits the bill nicely for me. I enjoy DJI and I've never had firmware/software issues that seem to plague the DJI community (other than the Android app), but the Anafi was just different enough to warrant exploring. I like different and I can't wait to use these features in the future.

Good Photo Drone, Really Superior Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Parrot has done a good job of packing the Anafi with features found in more expensive drones, but with a couple of odd compromises. It has an absolutely stellar 4K camera, probably the best in this price category. The camera has excellent stabilization and is HDR capable. Parrot is actively improving it with updates and adding to it's capabilities. It's definitely the strength of the platform. The camera is capable of 180 degrees of swivel vertically allowing photos and video from underneath (think bridges) as well as above, which is also unique in this class. The zoom is not an optical zoom, but it is 'lossless', meaning that they use the oversize image sensor to provide digital zoom without any image loss. It's very effective. The Anafi is relatively small and lightweight, but very sturdy. The weight reduction is the result of a lot of carbon fiber construction, which should hold up well. It seemed to handle wind pretty well. In winds gusting 10-15mph, it barely drifted at all. Which is good, because it doesn't have any obstacle avoidance built in and wind drift would limit it's ability for close inspection. The light weight also contributes to it's long flight time, with at (claimed) 25 min is also best in class. I was able to get a 20 min test flight before taking it in for landing. The Anafi is also pretty quiet, a lot quieter than other drones that I've experienced. And it's more of a whoosh than a roar. At 50 ft, it's barely noticeable, which should make for happier neighbors. The Anafi has a lot of configuration options. By default, it comes in a 'beginner' mode which limits speed, climb, banking, and tilt. As you get more confident with the controls, you can change the limits to increase performance, making it a good choice for the beginner or experienced drone pilot. Which brings us to the controls: There is a the traditional controller which connects to a smart phone/tablet. I use a Samsung S8 and Android, so I can't speak to the IOS app except that Parrot provides it. The Android app can be used with the controller or standalone, which is kind of nice. The range on the controller and video feed worked well up to about 300', I didn't really try to go past that. I really liked the controller, it felt good in my hands. The downsides to the Anafi are few, but notable. There is no obstacle avoidance, which is surprising in this price class. The battery is fixed in a removable part of the body and proprietary. An additional battery (almost a necessity) is expensive ($100). A USB-C charger is required and is NOT included. Parrot has chosen to make some features (so far, follow along and planned flight) in-app purchases for $17.50 each, although they seem to go on sale for $.99 every once in a while. The included case fits the drone only, which maybe enough room for a memory card and extra propellors. You'll need to buy a separate case for the controller and (not supplied) extra battery, charger, etc. And it's good that an extra set of blades (supplied with the drone) fits in the case, because the lack of obstacle avoidance pretty much ensures you'll need them. In short, the Parrot Anafi is definitely worth your consideration. For a blogger, action photographer, real estate photographer, or just a hobby flier, this would be an excellent fit in spite of it's shortcomings.

Great camera, easy controls
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first drone. I am also horrible at playing video games on an XBox so I was intimidated the moment I looked at the controller with all its buttons and joysticks. Fortunately, it is fairly intuitive. One side moves up and down and the other forward and back--and one of them turns the drone left and right. Index fingers can control the tilt of the camera and the zoom. It is easy to get confused at first, but it feels natural and after a few mistakes the brain is quickly trained. There are two speeds (slow and fast) for piloting. Slow is a bit too slow but in the settings it appears you can modify "slow" to be a bit quicker. Fast is where you want to be once you have good piloting control. The Parrot software interface for your phone is a bit busy. Essentially the bottom of the FreeFlight 6 is your "modes" (pilot modes, camera modes). The top is flight data (height, distance from you, battery life, etc.). Unfortunately "Follow Me" and "Flight Plans" are add-ons you need to buy. The best feature on this drone (aside from the ease of flight/camera controls) is the camera. Great snapshot/video quality. Unfortunately you are not recording directly to your cell phone. Your images are stored on an SD card on the bird that need to be downloaded via USB cable to your laptop (or other device). I would have liked to "live stream" the drone but I am not sure that is possible. If it is, there isn't a simple "live stream to Facebook"-type button. Which brings me to the lack of documentation about this drone. While very easy to get started with it, there isn't much paper documentation to help you figure out what all you can do with it. You'll need to rely on the Parrot website to understand the features...and forums to learn how to do "cool things" with it. Negatives include NO COLLISION/OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE. I got a little too comfortable too soon and decided to play with the "touch and fly" feature where essentially you touch a spot on your cell phone and the drone will fly there. I did not realize my mailbox was on that flight path...nor did I elevate the drone higher than the initial 3'' takeoff height. I had the drone on FAST mode and autopiloted the drone right into my mailbox at full speed. Fortunately I did not crack any propellers (Parrot does give you spares) nor did I do any damage to the arms or camera. Given it is extremely light, it does kind of struggle in the slightest breeze ("drift") to stay steady. It isn't too noticeable in the video recording, but you can hear the drone struggling to stay steady. I have had issues connecting the phone to the drone. It always seems like I need to "try twice" but once connected, it seems to stay connected. Battery life pretty much is the 20-25 minutes advertised on the website. Personally that feels like too little battery but from what I understand that is pretty much standard. Recharge times are not fast, so if you really want to use this drone you will want to buy some backup power supplies (which click in and out of the bird fairly easily). Speaking of battery life, the need a better warning on your Flight App. The "drone battery life" icon is to the right of the "controller battery life" icon and quite honestly, needs to be more visible and should blink a giant warning on your screen when <15%. I was trying to fly the drone over my roof to land it on my deck in the back yard when my battery died (unexpectedly to me because I did not know where the indicator was at the time). It landed gently on my roof, but I had to get a ladder to retrieve it! :-( All in all a good starter drone from a control and features standpoint, but it is lacking some features like collision avoidance and GIANT BATTERY WARNING that would help the beginner like me. A good drone but you should do some online research to see if it has all the features you may need/want in a drone--or if you have to buy them as "add-on" components.

Very Nice Drone/Excellent Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Understand that I've never owned a drone or flew one before the Parrot ANAFI, nor have I ever flown RC planes. The ANAFI is well-built, more toward lightness and flexibility than heaviness and rigidness. So far, I've not found it to be fragile or delicate in any way, but from watching many videos of drone flights, any drone flown into a solid object may result in damage -- it just goes with flying objects impacting with solid objects. I mention this to first-time buyers to make you aware that this is a flying device moving in 3 dimensions so ease into it and take your time. The twin joysticks on the controller take practice and time so that you don't have to think about the controls and those movements become muscle-memory, automatic. Once that's accomplished, you can begin speeding things up a step at a time as you acclimate to properly control a flying drone. The result of the slow and steady approach is an undamaged drone, which means more enjoyment of your purchase. By the way, if you panic for some reason just let the joysticks spring back to their neutral positions and the drone will stop and simply hover in place until you figure out what you want it to do. My flying time with one battery is about 25 minutes as advertised depending on wind conditions. The ANAFI can handle winds very well, but it takes more energy to fight winds whether moving or simply hovering. For its size and weight, I believe it has very good performance in this area, but calmer days simply mean more actual time in the air. The ANAFI's battery and the controller's battery are both recharchable by USB-C. I use my Samsung Note8's fast charger to charge both. From mostly depleted to full strength they take about 1.5 hours to recharge completely. The controller battery's charge lasts longer, but that's probably because its battery is larger. You can even use battery packs to charge if you're away from a plug, or you can purchase extra ANAFI batteries to extend your time in the field. The camera is capable of shooting 4K video (with HDR or not) or 21 mpx still shots or at lesser resolutions if you prefer. The gimble (thing that allows the camera to swivel and move independently of the drone) will allow it to go from straight up to straight down and anywhere in between. It has a button close to your finger to quickly center the camera to straight ahead. It has both lossless zoom and standard zoom. You need a smartphone to use with the controller as the screen. You install the FreeFlight app on it, and it provides a wealth of information to tell you all about your drone while in flight as well as providing programmed flight programs so that it will fly automatically for various video shots. The controller will accept even larger phones if, as in my case with the Note8, you take the phone case off first. Smaller phones can be left in their case, but the Note8, iPhone 8+ and some others will require you to remove the phone case before using it with the controller. There are some aftermarket holders available that will allow you to use even tablets with the controller if you prefer a larger screen. Of course, the screen provides a way to change settings in the app as well as to watch the streaming video or stills while the drone is in flight. The ANAFI has a removable microSD card to record your video/stills. You can use larger microSD cards than the 16 GB card it comes with. The ANAFI does not have object avoidance sensors as some other drones have. This means you pilot the drone with no help other than watching what the camera is showing you while flying straight ahead. Drones that have avoidance sensors will help the drone automatically avoid objects -- say you're flying backward recording a drop away view behind your direction of travel and it's coming upon an object (tree, flagpole etc) that you don't know is there. If it has rear sensors, it will help the drone move to avoid the object without your input. Some drones only have sensors on the front, or front and back, while some have additional sensors on the sides too. Normally, drones with avoidance sensors can be expected to cost more, but sensors, while undoubtedly helpful, are not perfect and do sometimes miss smaller objects (some tree branches etc). All of this depends on the object and the quality and quantity of the drone's sensors. Many pilots fly drones without avoidance sensors so it's really up to you and what you want to pay. Frankly, there are many other things to talk about that the ANAFI offers through its software app and additional aspects of the drone itself -- too much to cover it all here. Suffice to say that the arms of the drone (at the ends of which are the motors/propellers) fold against the body so that it can be put in its little travel case to pack in a suitcase or attach to a backpack. In other words, it's very portable, unlike some larger and heavier drones. As a first-time pilot I believe if you take your time actually learning to fly the ANAFI, you'll be very pleased with it for the money. While this is my first drone, I've read many articles about them and watched many hours of videos about the ANAFI and other brand drones. For a better-equipped drone expect to ordinarily pay more money, but know that the ANAFI isn't a toy but rather a quality drone as well as a very capable platform for professional grade video and stills.

Great Drone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So at the initial set up it was a bit difficult because there was no manual. The only included usb connector to attach the phone to the controller was NOT for iPhone even though it clearly stated "made for iPhone" on the outside of the box. The amazing thing about this drone is it is super easy to fly. Great for beginners or inexperienced drone operators. The camera was a bit finicky in the beginning but once it was detected and connected it was easy to maneuver and what an amazing picture. Some of the other great features were the zoom capabilities, the HDR footage, and the auto land button. The ability to tilt the camera up and down while in flight is also a great feature. The zoom picture was not blurred while zooming like on other brands. I do wish however that the "follow me" feature was not an additional cost. For the cost of this drone, it should be included. The 25 minute flight time is also a bonus as most other drones are less. After about 12 flights an update was performed so it appears that they are staying up on improving the software. Overall, this is a great drone and I would certainly recommend it.

Easy to Fly ; Great Quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very pleased with ANAFI drone! It is easy and fun to fly, and the videos and pics are high quality. I have a DJI phantom 4 pro and bebop2, all purchased at Best Buy over the past 14 months. I did not like that the DJI requires you to connect to the internet and get permission to fly in MANY areas (yellow) that are not NFZs. Between that and the required updates (which often caused me problems, including no longer working with my phone), flying the DJI was always a stressful experience for me. The Phantom would sometimes not fly when I needed it to. I spent an hour yesterday to discover it no longer works with an S7. I had to borrow another phone to fly it. This is an issue (NFZs) almost never mentioned in online reviews, but a “deal breaker” for many. I encourage anyone thinking about a DJI to look at their map (google it) and look at all of the green and yellow zones. The Parrot ANAFI does not use these draconian restrictions! You can use the ANAFI when you want to, without the hoops and headaches (using your good judgement). It is very quiet and much less bothersome to others. The video stutters/skips occasionally when yawing quickly (rotating) which I think has to do with the electronic stabilization on that axis. But it is not a big deal, and is not noticeable in ‘film’ speed (a setting). The controls are intuitive and responsive. The USB charging and portability are great. Admittedly, the P4 takes cleaner video, but I often ended up using my Bebop in the past year, because I could rely on it to work immediately. With the ANAFI, I get the fun and ease of the Bebop with quality video much closer to the P4. I highly recommend it.

Solid drone with excellent camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first drone and I have found it to be easy to use. It takes several hours to get the thing ready for flight the first time. The camera takes excellent videos and pictures. Freeflight6 app is somewhat easy to use. Only drawback so far is the lack of a second battery. The flight time on a battery is close to specs, actual flight time is about 22 to 23 minutes.

Be aware they don't honor their warranty
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Highly recommend avoiding this product. Purchased at Best Buy with understanding drone has a one year manufacturer warranty. Has issue that SD card cannot be seen and attempted to contact Parrot within the one year range. They refused and told us to contact Best Buy. Best Buy told us it's a Parrot issue and once again contacted Parrot. They said, "if you purchased through us, we'll honor the warranty, but will not if purchased elsewhere" Check out Parrots website as the warranty link is down and if you decide to contact them, be prepared for a very rude person stating they will not honor it. Very disappointed as it's a decent drone when working.

Buyer Beware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Parrot's Anafi should not be on the market and should not be in Bestbuy. The reason being Parrot does not have replacement parts for the Anafi and there is no repair service available. Parrot claims a 1 year parts and service warranty that Parrot can not honor. Before you buy an Anafi please ask the salesman about the warranty for this product and you will understand. Parrot customer service is by far the rudest and uninformed employees. My Anafi has a broken arm and I can not get it repaired because there are no replacement parts and there is no service center to send it to for repairs. It is in the trash! Parrot warranty is a total joke and totally unacceptable. Maybe even illegal! Go with Yuneec or DJI for sure. Stay far away from Parrot!!!

Ended with a fly away. Would not recommend,
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lost drone to a fly away. Customer support pretty much said too bad. I had this for about a year. The camera was pretty good. On the last flight I was bringing it to land on a scenic road and at about 10-15 feet it suddenly flew away past the road, the shoulder, past a lookout and into a river. Anafi said that I was flying over water (I wasn't over the water -- the drone flew away into in the water!) and pretty much said it was not their fault.

Communication Problems and Poor Customer Service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Drone worked fine with no complaints for the first two months. Then, the drones camera would not always pickup with the display on the ipad, I would have to turn it on and off to get the connection, no biggee there. After 5 months of use the drone did not stop when I stopped the controls and it almost crashed. The next time I took the drone out it started loosing control and crashed. I was not able to find the drone. I called Parrot Customer Service and provided them all the info they requested. Now they will not respond to my emails and when I call they said they are working on "it". The bad thing is the drone should have registered the last location by GPS and I should be able to use the Free Flight app to go to the crash location. But, the Free Flight App did not register the flight the day of the crash. After reading reviews from other sites I now see this is a common problem. This drone is way to expensive for a disposable toy.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
