But I just used a different cord and it was fine.

This particular case looks like a toy; its material and design leave much to be desired. If you compare it to other brands like Spigen, for example, those are more robust, better designed, nicer looking, and better priced... I opened mine, put it on my AirPods, and immediately went back to the store to return it...
