Reynolds is the perfect role for Day-Lewis, who is likewise famous both for his obsessive meticulousness. Anderson's movies are never coherent enough to appeal to the mainstream, but this one is so ravishing and meticulous and exquisite that you have no difficulty ignoring its inherent lack of logic. It's a rare combination of audacity and precision, impeccably tailored yet full of mystery and magic, like an essential part of it is beyond Anderson's control. Just defining what the film is presents an formidable set of obstacles. If there's anything I've learned from Anderson's previous work it's that taking full measure of "Phantom Thread" may require more than one viewing.

Phantom Thread isn't a flashy or fast paced spectacle, but a rare, well-made and very welcome character study in this day and age of billion dollar Marvel franchises. After There Will Be Blood, I didn't think PT and Daniel Day could capture lightning in a bottle again, but I was certainly wrong. It's not everyone's cup of tea, I'm sure. Some may be put off by the near perfect script and subtle, nuanced performances. Just accept the lack of car chases or the fact that no one will save the world and check out, what I consider, the year's best picture.

Daniel Day-Lewis plays Reynolds Woodcock, a temperamental women's dress designer, apparently tiring of his current muse and awaiting his next inspiration. The only controlling influence over his basest instincts is his sister, Cyril (Leslie Manville), who runs their atelier with almost militaristic precision. Alma (Vicky Krieps), a waitress, is bemused by Woodcock in his most charming guise. As their relationship evolves, friction develops as she recognizes that this man whom she loves is also a bully and verbal abuser. It becomes a test of wills between the two. Who will win out?

This was not at all what I was expecting; I'm a PTA fan and went in a little blind but was pleasantly surprised. Paul shot the film gorgeously and the performances are top notch - the bu ray transfer is beautiful as well. The audio is top notch and score is fantastic. I wish the supplements offered a little more but the package looks and sounds great, fitting for a great film.

Daniel Day-Lewis gives a magnificent performance in what might be his final movie. Absolutely deserving of the Oscar nominations, the movie has top notch acting and an engaging story, albeit methodically slow-building like most from director Paul Thomas Anderson. The blu-ray has a unique clear case and reversible cover art which I love. This movie comes highly recommended!

If this is where Daniel Day-Lewis truly decides to end his acting career, at least he does so leaving it all out there. Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the most interesting directors working today, and Phantom Thread somehow makes something I couldn't be less interested in (fashion) and turns it into riveting cinema. Kudos for adding the extras in 4k - it's not the norm right now.

One of the more natural looking discs, full of grain and strong detail. HDR gives a wide range of vibrant and bright colors. The sound was very clear. Beautiful aesthetics overall, definitely pick up if you are a Paul Thomas Anderson fan or like period dramas. Bring on the other Paul Thomas Anderson movies on 4K!

This is Daniel Day Lewis last film before he retired from acting. I wouldn’t call it his greatest or most memorable but Phantom Thread is a good film nonetheless. PT Anderson once again makes a beautiful film feel like those movies you’ve watched on TCM from yesteryear. I recommend Phantom Thread.

As a history professor, I use several Daniel Day-Lewis films in class (There Will Be Blood, Gangs of New York, etc.). He's an amazing actor. Phantom Thread is not the type of movie I would usually enjoy, but he's just such a great actor. Recommended.

I think this is a film I'm going to have to view a couple of times before I give my final take. It is delightful. I think I went in expecting a repeat strong film like in There Will Be Blood. But Anderson and Day-Lewis are a good creative pair.

A delicious tale of a renound tailor driven by routine and order only to have meet a lady capable of penetrating his armour. Won’t get into too much further. If you’re a PTA fan you’ll enjoy this. The HDR is immaculate.

This is one of the more surprising movies in PT Anderson's career. All of the production values are through the roof, as are the performances. The story develops in surprising and delightful ways. Highly recommended!

This was a great purchase for me. I really enjoyed this movie and the 4K transfer is really stunning. One would think that a drama won't exploit the 4K technology but this really does. Absolutely recommended!

Paul Thomas Anderson's second film with Daniel Day-Lewis is a delicious cinematic treat. An aching romantic score, lush cinematography put me under its spell. Can't wait to revisit again and again.

This stunning film will leave you with many questions at the end... but is well worth the time invested. Quirky, dark, and overall, one I will look forward to watch time and time again.

Anderson at his best: on point, taut script, wonderful performances, and the director at his most mature and deliberate. Excellent.

If you're a fan of director Paul Thomas Anderson's work, this film does not disappoint. It took me a bit to warm up to it, but I really enjoyed it by the end. Great characters and costumes.

2017 was an excellent year for film and Phantom Thread is right up there as one of the best. So glad to have this on 4K. Highly recommend this film and the 4K disc.
