    I have a brand new Lenovo Laptop and thought at the very least this would plug and play with DVD's, sadly it does not. I just bought it to play dvd's, blu-ray's and load my printer onto my laptop via its enclosed disc driver software. I called the Geek Squad to walk me through perhaps loading specific software, drivers, etc and quite literally was transferred 5 times and nobody knew how to help. After an hour I hung up and I did in fact purchase the protection. Now I have to find the time to bring the item I purchased and my new laptop with me and physically go into a Best Buy while my life is hectic enough as it is.

    I bought this product primarily to convert several of my blu-ray discs to digital copies as part of a disc to digital program. I converted at least 300 discs and have not had any mechanical trouble. The product is robust, but I would recommend the Geek Squad Protection plan just in case you plan to use this for a similar situation.

    Bought one for my new VAIO Z Laptop which does not have an optical drive. It is good value and small enough to carry in my laptop case with the laptop.
