difficult to setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.it is too difficult to setup. Distance between the USB connectors is not big enough for 2 of them to be plugged in in some laptops

Works Great Right Out of the Box
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Took it out of the box and used a (WD 457mm USB Type-C to Micro-B Cable - WDBLVG0000NBK-WRSN) cable (instead of the supplied dual USB cable) to connect it to my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018) since I have USB Type-C ports. I inserted a DVD and it automatically brought up the built-in DVD player and started playing the movie. I downloaded the (free) version of Leawo Blu-ray Player from the App Store. I inserted a Blu-ray, opened the player, chose the drive and the movie started playing. That, to me, is pretty much about as perfect as one can expect the drive (and software) to work. As to the noise, some have mentioned: There is some noise. If you are used to a desktop computer, then it may sound "loud". If you are used to external drives, then I would rate it about normal. First day, first shot, but hope this helps those who may be looking for a replacement or new external DVD/Blu-ray drive. I have burned a music CD but not a DVD or Blu-ray as of yet. However, burning Blu-rays is not my current purpose for the drive, so we shall see. Worth the money, as it is cheaper than many other like drives.

Works as expected.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a bare drive, to start off. If you don't know what you're doing or don't have your own software, I suggest doing some research in that area before buying this item. The drive itself is awesome: it's a very quiet, relatively fast, and small blu-ray drive that reads and writes BD. Keep in mind that it uses a Y-cable and takes up two USB A ports to power the drive.

Works well, LOUD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the loudest optical drive I've ever owned, admittedly I've never owned an external so maybe that's not unusual. Definitely caught me off guard, originally bought to watch Blu-rays late when everyone is sleeping so I could use my headphones. I could hear this drive over my closed back Sennheiser headphones during non action sequences. It's not all bad news though the drive has worked great, I've just decided to rip my Blu-rays into mkv files and create a Plex server. More work but will be more convenient in the long run.

Great for iMac
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this as an external blu-ray for my iMac and it works great. Plays all the blu-ray discs I needed it to play with no setup required - just plug and play - and the housing compliments the aluminum housing of the iMac itself. It looks great sitting on my desk beneath the iMac. Highly pleased.

Excellent Player
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Pioneer USB External Bluray player works very well with my Windows HP Laptop. It easily plays Bluray discs and all the multi region dvd's I have, Region 1 and Region 2. I downloaded Cyberlink PowerDVD 17 on my laptop and have no complaints about it. For the first 30 days Cyberlink is free. It works well with the Pioneer player.

Works well
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Plug and play on my Macbook Pro and custom built PC. Plays blu-ray discs no problem. The eject/lid release only seems to work while the unit is plugged in which is a bit inconvenient.

Easy to use, no software for BluRay play
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Looked for a USB 3.0 blu-ray writer/play and this seemed to fit the bill. Simple to install, just connect the USB 3.0 cable to my iMac and the blu-ray and you are up and running. It is slower than the Apple superdrive but it offers writing blu-ray. The only problem is Pioneer. The web site refuses to allow me to register my product. I sent an email to their support and they answered to call an 866 number and select option 1. The lady who answered told me it is the wrong number and she sent me to the laptop devision. This man sent me to another department and that representative informed me he has no way to help me and i was wasting his time. WTH? Nice product but beware if service is needed as they are not interested in knowing who and when a product is purchased. I would recommend to another to buy if Pioneer would allow registration

A good external Bluray drive option
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a USB 3.0 external Bluray writer for my laptop and this fit the bill. It plays Blu-ray movies(with separate Bluray movie playing software) and burns 100GB discs.

Does exactly what it is designed to do...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this thing. I use this little device all the time. Without it, I would not be able to enjoy my NAS. Plain, simple, easy to use. I keep it plugged into my computer so it is ready in case I need it. Now that I have this (bought it 2018), I can't imagine not having it.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It worked find but it was missing any software to run a dvd or blueray. model BDR-XD05 has software BRD-DX05S shown here comes with no software. So if you have software this is a good price, and product, I will need to return to buy one with software as my computer did not have that preinstall.

Adequate, needs third party software to run
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I disn’t like that it needed a third party software, which eventually rendered tbe drive useless, with most DVDs, (even many commercial ones it wouldn’t play them. It did play BlueRay fine (as ling as I had the third oarty software compatible w/ my Mac. IT WILL NOT PLAY WITH APPLE DVD PLAYER.

6x Bluray Read when you enable performance mode
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.IMPORTANT: You must download the drive utility from the pioneer website in order to achieve 6X Blu-ray read speeds. This will let you switch from quiet mode (2X) to performance mode (6X) which will make reads much faster especially when ripping the disc to your HDD. I don't understand why Pioneer would advertise 6X only to leave it at 2X for the customer. It's an inconvience but after switching to performance mode blu ray rips take 20-30 mins. Overall works fine and construction is made of plastic.

Good Deal
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this on sale but so far it's been a good external drive. I have only burnt a DVD on it but it burned quickly. Good external drive. No complains.
