Great receiver at a decent price.
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great receiver with all the bells and whistles you need. The sound quality was noticeably better than my previous Denon and Std. Pioneer (never buy below the elite line.) But the real reason to buy this one over others is Dirac Live. This is absolutely the best room equalization software and this receiver is the best bang for your buck with Dirac. I dropped a star for the quality only because I started having sound issues after a bit. I believe this to be due more to this being an open box / display unit than an actual defect.

Amazing sound for the price
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this in 2022, primarily because it comes with Dirac room correction system embedded. This is a game changer for anyone who wants to experience sound. It plays 2 channel music very well too, which is how i mostly use it for. Supports all the major codecs and streaming music portals. The phono input was not satisfactory, so i connected my turntable via a separate phono preamp. Its well worth the price. I didnt have any issues with this in my 2 years of heavy use. Hope you find this useful

Best AV receiver in the price range
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far the best receiver in the price range. I have tested similar receivers from Denon, Sony and Yamaha, and eventually settled with this one. The Dirac Live settings ensures that sweet spot.

Being returned bc it sounds soulless. Flad. Dry...
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Short and to the point. Audio is like food and everyone has different tastes. This unit after two days of fiddling with Dirac Live was not capable of even remotely getting close to my old Denon X1600H. I did the Dirac multiple times. Edit filters to cut it off at 500HZ per online audio nerds recommendations. Did the usual setting changes reversing speakers from Large to Small so that the subwoofer gets more lively. So on and so on. What made me finally give up and throw in the towel was the wife, someone that over our 16 years of marriage never noticed any differences in my guitar amps, my studio monitors, previous speakers and avr units. While cooking dinner as I am listening to various music videos on the unit asks me while it sounds weird. At this point she is used to me listening to some music videos in the evenings using our living room speakers so for her to notice a drastic difference without me asking her if she did told me all i needed to know. I don't know what is going on but this unit combined with my speakers sounds soulless. Dry. Flat. Just now before finally putting it in a box to go return it I pulled the Denon unit from the bedroom and hooked it up and did a A/B test with the two units and the Denon just blows this piece out of the water. Music and Movies just sounds so much more musical. Alive. Instead of very loud tv speakers they sound like real speakers when using the Denon. So yeah returning this and waiting for one of the Denon X series models to go on sale.

Great sound at half volume, rocks the house.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a Yamaha for 4 years and it quit working. I returned it and it was repaired by the Best Buy wannanty . I tried a Sony and it wasn't any better. It was very glitchy and kept losing its settings. Returned it got a Pioneer VSX-LX 305 and it was dead out of the box. Returned it , got a VSX-LX 505 and It is by far the best so far . Great sound at half volume, rocks the house. I purchased the 4 year extended warranty , just in case.

Excellent receiver with great sound!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent sound and setup was not hard. The advance setup took a little getting used to it but eventually was nice. Paired with Klipsch speakers and the sound is amazing. Passthrough for 4k 120hz works great. Highly recommend using the free Pioneer/Onkyo App. Makes controlling the receiver super easy.

Fantastic Receiver for the Money!!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a 10 year old Pioneer Receiver that went out on me. So I upgraded to this one thinking it would sound exactly like my old receiver. Once installed, The sound was amazing, even with the same surround speakers I already had. I noticed much better sound and noticed things in movies I couldn't normally hear. A great receiver, I would definitely recommend.

Pioneer Elite Gets It Right With This Receiver
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded my old Pioneer Elite receiver to the new VSX-LX305 and the difference is spectacular. Sound just jumps out with clarity and depth I didn’t know my speakers could produce. Connected to my 8k Samsung TV the picture produced takes full advantage of the TV’s capability for enhanced definition. This new receiver really delivers.

Poor tone and very limited tone adjustments
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As someone who is a musician and sound engineer, I know my audio quite well. I have been a big fan of Pioneer and have gone back and forth between Pioneer and Sony AVR's for years now. While this AVR has many features, gadgets and apps, such as 8k passthrough and the many Theater like features such as Atmos , Dolby Surround Upmixing, DTS:X®/DTS Neural:X Upmixing, IMAX Enhanced, and Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization, however the first rule in audio is tone. This AVR failed miserably. Upon set up I attempted the DIRAC sound set up. Let me say that it wants you to do between 9-17 mearurements. That takes quite a bit of time and to be honest is ridiculous, so I went to the more basic auto setup and it took a lot longer than my Sony STR-DH790 AVR and was for more inaccurate especially on the low end. Let me say this, it sounded like a very cheap sound bar through all of my speakers regarding its tone. So after a while of trying to figure out where I can adjust the tone manually, which was an adventure, the sub was -13db for whatever reason, and my speakers were identified as large when I have Satellite type speakers (Celestion AVP 303) and the crossover was at 100. I adjusted to small speakers and when I went to adjust the crossover It gave me a 150 option- Nothing in between, which I like about a 120. I switched it to 150. There was nothing in this menu to adjust for the treble or tone. Even after making these adjustments, it still sound hollow and lack luster. Nothing on the highs or lows that stood out. After fiddling with it for over a half hour I finally found where I can adjust the bass and treble, but it does a system adjustment, and does not let you do individual speakers that I could find. There was not a full manual, just a quickstart quide, where the Sony STR-DH790, had a full manual and is almost 1/3 of the price. After the adjustments, the tone still didn't cut it. Out of all of the AVR's that I have bought since I was in the service back in 1992, this was the worst ever by far. Were the theater surround features good? Kind of, however I didn't get a good tone, so anything can sound like it is surrounding you when the tone is hollow sounding. The extra inputs are nice, but I really don't need more than 4 anyway. Apps, you can get on a FireStick, Roku or stream from a tablet or device via blu-tooth. Dirac is a waste of money as far as I'm concerned where it is that complicated and time consuming to set up your sound. For an AVR of this price, you should have more options to adjust your tone than a sound than a soundbar. In regards to gaming at 4k/120P or 8k/60P I guess that would be an advantage, but I'm not a gamer, so I am not sure what difference that would make. In regards to 8K viewing and TV's at the current sizes at normal viewing range, it is hard for the human eye to tell the difference unless you are up very close, and not much if nothing is being broadcast in true 8k anyway so for me this feature is not relevant for me or most at this time. Lastly, to my surprise when downloading the app, Onkyo bought Pioneer, so maybe that is where the problem is. I don't know, I just know that this receiver is horrible for almost any price point.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A great receiver with Dirac Liv built in. No extra cost for a licensing key. After calibration the unit sounds incredible and it capable of passing 4K 120 from a gaming console, no problem.
