Not quite as good as the third installment, RIDDICK, but still a decent original horror sci-fi piece that setup for Vin Diesel to be a superstar. Great monsters and a solid supporting cast with sound performances.

This movie is not very good, but the steelbook case is cool and the price is good.

Didn't have it in my collection found it on sale in steelbooks so bought it.

I was actually skeptical when I first heard pitch black was coming out on 4k, mainly due to it being a very dark movie. Then I watched some YouTube reviews which gave it high remarks and upgrade worthy thumbs up. I do not own the Blu-ray copy but I do own the DVD copy, so I threw the 4K copy in first and then switched back to the DVD and then back to the 4K and then back to the DVD and I really wasn't all that impressed. For $20 if I knew what I know now I probably would have waited until it was like $12 because I honestly just didn't see a huge improvement whatsoever. It's definitely a Black Friday sale movie and not a regular purchase movie

Looks good in some scenes and so-so in others. In those scenes its no better than the standard bluray. However, its grain galore… cuz you videophiles love the authentic look and feel of film grain! Heck, theirs tons of grain in real life! Argh!

This is a very good sci-fi movie with Vin Diesel the picture and Dolby vision is good except it is extremely grainy which is very distracting the DTS audio track is pretty good too there are things about the movie that could be better though

I loved Pitch Black cause its a sci-fi/horror mix and i loved the plot. Stuck in a back water planet with monsters after you and your only hope is a killer. Very simple and gets to the point and its the steel case edition. I personally didnt like the sequels.

Decent upscaling of original film. Some grainy scenes. To be expected with the colors of the reference film. Overall pretty good.

I believe this is the first one that came out but there are two more(?). Of course when they made the movies they weren't in order.So this is either the last to second one.

Older show not bad .deals with the future not bad show

I never watched this movie till I bought it in this Blue-Ray format. I would highly recommend this movie for people who like sci-fi / suspense / horror. The plot isn't very complicated, but the cinemetography is as good as it gets for this type of film. The camera angles, lighting, and colors were well thought out in the production. Much to my suprise, VinDiesel did an excellent job as Riddick, as well did all the other actors. Several times durring the BlueRay Disc there are problems with the audio and video being out of sync. They have both theatrical and directors cut versions on the disc, which I suspect attribute to the problems. I would have expected someone from the disc manufaturer to actually watch the completed disc before releasing it. It is possible that I have hardware "lagging" problems , but the audio problems always occur at the same point (and correct at the same point) on the disc. Also, I have not had any audio problem with the 20+ other BDiscs I have watched. Yes, my firmware is up to date on the BD player. Reguardless, I enjoyed watching this movie, and would still recommend this disc if it on sale. If you can get past the audio sync issues (as annoying as they can be), you should get this disc. I have not seen the DVD version which I am sure does not have this problem. If you like this movie, I highly recommend "The Chronicles of Riddick" which is the sequel to this movie. I had NO problems with audio in this release.

3 of 5 stars to the sci-fi movie Pitch Black. This is the second movie in the Chronicles of Riddick series with Vin Diesel in the role of Riddick. The movie opens with a passenger transport space ship starting to crash into a world (the ship had been knocked off-course). The ship is carrying Riddick plus several other passengers. The crash breaks the ship into lots of big chunks and Riddick is landed far from the main group of passengers. The world appears to be a hot dry planet (a desert) with three Suns. So, the handful of survivors seek water as their first task. Things seem to go OK until nightfall when bird-like creatures come out of hiding and start killing/eating people. The group is re-united with Riddick just before nightfall. From here the plot is simple and not too interesting: get to another part of the crashed ship to the shuttle to escape from the planet. Of course, between where they are and where the shuttle is are those birdlike creatures. You can guess most of the rest. If you didn't see the first movie of the Riddick series you'd have no idea who this guy is and why he has shiny eyes. The movies does little to give you any of the back-story. For that matter, in this movie Riddick is a not too interesting character and there is no development that would lead to a future story. So this is a good sci-fi movie with a very predictable plot. Yes, I do recommend it.
