However, the transfer speeds are atrocious. Read speeds are acceptable, although nowhere near USB3 bus speeds. Write speeds on the other hand are laughable. I haven't seen write speeds this low on a thumb drive since USB 1.1. For single large files the speeds are a bit better, but transferring multiple small files can result in KB/s speeds. The larger storage capacity does not align with the flash performance. If transferring smaller files between devices where both USB connectors are required, this is a convenient little drive. Even though it has a "larger" storage capacity don't expect to make use of it. It's possible to drive to the store, buy a better drive, and complete a transfer before this would be halfway through an upload.

I am always very careful to use the "safely remove" function, so the failure is not related to it being removed without that protection.

The usb used to plug directly into my Pixel 8 Pro and my Mac but no longer works with the phone. No matter what type of phone I plug it into it sees it as needing to be formatted. This defeated the purpose of transfering my photos to the thumb drive.
