    I bought this item to transfer videos from an iPad to a Mac in a remote facility that does not have WiFi. Nothing on the packaging said it required WiFi to work. I was somewhat disappointed since I can already directly connect my iPad and Mac without WiFi, or "Air Drop" with WiFi.
