Vintage instant film camera with modern touches

In today’s digital world it is hard for any analog camera to compete, much less an instant film camera such as this Polaroid - Now Instant Film Camera Generation 2. It came bundled with a pack of 16 color i-Type film but it’s also compatible with Polaroid 600 film. I have to admit it’s been quite a few years since I’ve used a film camera and you’d be hard pressed to find many places to develop film but with this Polaroid you don’t have to worry about that, because the film develops automagically in 10-15 minutes after you take each picture that comes out the front of the camera. Overall this camera is pretty bulky and not necessarily designed for travel, but can you make your cell phone print 4” pictures out of its charging port :-) Other notable upgrades that assist with image quality are the autofocus lens and the flash to some extent, though taking pics in well lit conditions is still recommended. The film cartridge loading works well and the USB-C battery charging is a nice touch. I primarily got this camera to teach my 10-year old nephew about some vintage photography the easier way. As it turns out it’s more of a lesson in patience, trial and error and buying additional costly film packs. If you’re into vintage, faded looking photos and reminiscing about the past, this may be the right camera for you.

Hi Flexo, I'm sorry to hear that! If photos are too dark it may be that you are not using flash indoors, or you are standing too far away from what you are photographing for the flash to reach. The flash range on the Now camera is about 6 feet maximum so if you stand farther than that the flash can't reach and you will get dark photos or background. If photos are overexposed, it could be the opposite, that you are standing too close and the flash is causing your photos to be blown out or overexposed. The closest you should be holding the camera to an object is about 1.5 feet. Please contact our customer service team with sample images showing your results and we can help. We can be reached at usa [at] polaroid [dot] com.

Hi Tiffg816, I'm sorry to hear that! If photos are too dark, it may be that you are standing too far away for the flash to reach your subject, or the flash may have been turned off for indoor photos. Please contact our customer service team at usa [at] polaroid [dot] com and we can help.

I’m old enough to have grown up with Polaroid cameras, but also so heavy into tech that I’ve forgotten what it was like to use one. After a decent amount of use with this one, I’m pleasantly surprised how great it works. I figured using this camera might be easy, but just how easy was the question. To test it. I had my 3 year old son take a picture. While I didn’t have him load the camera (which, in itself was easy), he took pictures with problem. Generally, the image quality in the pictures we took were great with one exception. I’ve grown accustom to just snapping flicks anywhere with all the software and hardware features on smart phones. However, taking pictures in darker spaces produced mixed results. Even with the flash on the center of the image would be visible, but not fully. Overall, my experience with the Polaroid Now Instant film camera was good. A great trip down memory lane. I forgot how long it takes for the pictures to develop (explaining that to a 3 year old took a bit) It wasn’t without its flaws, but it’s still a great camera for taking photos of well lit events.

    Great Gift for Granddaughter

I got this polaroid camera as a gift for my granddaughter and she loves it! The camera comes with 16 color print film which she quickly used. The camera itself is easy for her to use and very durable. She is learning how to use all the features which include a self-timer that she take photos of her and her friends together. This generation of kids rarely get to see printed photos since most all are digital and on some sort of device. My granddaughter loves that she can hang this photo's in her room and share them with her friends and family. The camera itself is black and white in color and requires pushing 1 button to take the photo. The camera has autofocus on each picture taken which helps get a clear quality photo. This Polaroid Now Generation 2 camera has been a huge hit with my granddaughter and I love that I can treat her to extra packs of film for her to continue to take photo's throughout the year. I highly recommend this for a gift or even to have around the house if you need to get a quick printed photo.

    Fun camera brings back memories

This is a fun camera. I remember friends and family having one as a kid. This is a newer version however. A nice upgraded feature from the ones from the 1970's and 1980's is the internal rechargeable battery. The camera has a USB-C port on the side and comes with an included cable for charging. There is a red LED next to the charging port to let you know that it is time to recharge the camera. Typical of a Polaroid camera the image quality isn't the best but that is what makes it nostalgic. They were never really good. Although the lens has Auto Focus stamped on the bezel it is more of a fixed focus camera. With an f/11 aperture everything in frame should be in focus unless you are too close. There is a 7 segment LCD readout to show the pictures remaining just below the power button. There is a built-in flash that you have the ability to turn off when not needed. The camera also has a self timer button on the front to allow the user to take a selfie. The box advertises double exposure capabilities which is not explained anywhere which leads me to the poorly thought out instructions. The instructions are pretty much just a quick start guide to show how to load the film and just start taking pictures. Although it is just an instant film camera with no real advanced features I would at least expect that if you say the camera is capable to do something it would at least be explained how to do it. For nostalgia I would recommend this camera. I feel it is more of a novelty camera than anything else. A couple of things they can improve on would be the instruction sheet and adding a rubber piece around the eyepiece for the viewfinder. If I recall correctly the original design had one.

    Instant Nostalgia!

I was really excited to have my polaroid instant camera! The instructions on how the polaroid functions were fairly simple; it was pretty self explanatory on how to insert and eject the film. The bundle came with two packs of films and it holds 8 photos each. It shows your on the right side with every photo your take how much photos are left on the film; which is a good thing to know as well as when it's at 0 photos so that you can replace your film. This is my first polaroid; I have always wanted one and I would say that I am not disappointed! It's everything I thought it would be, it's fun to use. I have had digital cameras and of course using cell phones as a source of taking pictures. Honestly, having your memories in an instant is not only convenient but astonishing! I wish the bundle would have also come with a cover for the polaroid for on the go that would have been nice but it's not a big deal! The polaroid is a super fun camera to use even my 5 year old was able to use it under my supervision she enjoyed watching the photos come out instantly. The only two cons are that when you use the polaroid without the flash it tends to come out rather dark and also it takes about 20 mins or so for the pictures to develop when you lay them on a flat surface or in a dark room. The cons are not that much! I would say overall it's a great camera to own and gift to anyone who loves to takes pictures and to have them in an instant! The quality of the photos are pretty vintage.

Blast from the Past Polaroid Package.

The Polaroid Now Generation 2 is a fun blast from the past camera system. Photos from an instant film camera is definitely a great party conversation piece. The nice thing about this camera is that it accepts both i-Type and 600 versions of instant film. However, I have notice that pictures are much clearer and develop much nicer quality using 600 film. With i-Type film, I keep getting spiderweb spots and blurry photos. Using the 600 film this camera produces photos you expected from the past. Therefore I deduce that the camera is not the problem but the film is. This bundle comes with two packs of i-Type film and I recommend switching to the 600 film after you are done. The camera body is built like a toy and is mostly plastic. There is no protection for the lenses so make sure you don't scratch it. Battery life from the internal battery seems to be fine after 4 packs of polaroid film. I do find it difficult to press the picture button because it takes a bit of effort to depress the button. Another weird thing that this camera does that no previous polaroid camera I have used does is when it dispenses a picture, there is a built in film that covers the picture and retracts back in when you fully remove the picture. This feels like a potential failure point but so far works fine. If you are interested in producing party favor polaroid pictures, this camera will do the job.

    Nostalgia in a Click

The Polaroid is a simple point and shoot camera that is easy to use, fun to play with which produces tons of smiles. There isn’t much to using the camera, it charges with a USB C wire and the instant picture cartridge snaps into the slot in front of the camera. The camera’s features include flash, timer and auto focus. The flash is also one of the only flashes that wont blind the person you're taking a picture of which I wish all companies would copy. This camera is all about making memories while reminiscing on old ones. You point and click your shot the picture shows up and develops within 2 to 3 minutes and it produces a retro picture. The picture isn’t always perfect, the colors maybe slightly off or there maybe a little blur but that is what makes this camera a good time. This camera is for you to have some fun with laugh and make memories while enjoying the moment. Overall this is a nice camera to make memories with and takes you back if you used the old school instant cameras. I didn't have any issues using it and everything about the camera was as advertised.

What a trip down memory lane!

When I received the Polaroid Now instant camera, I thought how fun it would be to experience instant pictures once again. No more uploading photos and staring at a screen! These are real photos, that you can hold in your hand. The camera looks and feels like the original, but unfortunately the technology hasn't improved much in 40 years. Maybe I was expecting too much! The camera seems well made and charges quickly with the included USB-C cable. Fortunately the charge should last about 120 photos so no worry about running out of battery. However, it can be a problem if you don't have a USB-C charger block. I didn't have one and finally ended up using my laptop as the power source for the initial charge. Once that was out of the way, the nostalgia returned! The film is easily loaded and taking pictures is really as easy as point and shoot. What a great gift idea for someone who experienced this forty years ago. or for someone who has never experienced it. The photos aren't 35mm quality, but they're not supposed to be! My first few photos appeared dark even with the flash but good light without the flash might be better. The Now Bundle came with two packages of film so you can take 16 photos. I highly recommend lots of film, especially when you first start using the camera. The fun of the camera is in the ability to watch the photo develop in front of you, while you watch. However, be sure to place the photo upside down for best results. Despite the song lyrics, you shouldn't "shake it like a Polaroid." Overall, this is SO much fun and is sure to be a hit this Christmas. Buy a few packs of film and enjoy the trip down memory lane.

Cool & nostalgic but not for serious photography!

It’s a cool little camera that you should know it can’t be taken as a serious camera. Depending on what you’re going for, this can be good. I am a millennial (35) and these give me nostalgia from those middle school days, but I was expecting the photos to have more light in them specially when using the flash. Unfortunately, the flash does not do much to pop some light into the picture. That said, if you’re wanting to have some nostalgic, low light, polaroid style, instant photos than this could be cool. I have taken some photos of my girlfriend and my family, and I just put them on my fridge and in my home office. As long as you don’t have high expectations that these photos will look better than photos coming out of our new phones and more like an instant camera from 2002, you won’t be disappointed. As far as the quality built, it’s all plastic that doesn’t not feel very sturdy. I am afraid if this gets dropped when taking a picture, it will break and possibly not work anymore, so don’t drop it! As far as instructions, there were not many but it’s also easy to set up or maybe that was the case for me because I had one of these back in the day. All in all, it’s cool as a nostalgic toy but not a serious camera. Don’t leave your phone or camera at home if you’re bringing this out to a camping trip or some social event, you might to have clear and quality pictures and some nostalgic polaroid pictures as well.
