In the box The box is large but the units inside are much smaller and packed very well. There is a power brick and cord for the speaker and power cord for the sub. For connecting the unit, Polk has included the HDMI cable, a 3.5mm analog stereo mini-jack and the toslink optical cable. There is also the remote and batteries. Setup Connecting the Magnifi Mini is pretty straight forward. Plug in the sub-woofer, Connect the power brick to the speaker and plug it in. Connection between the speaker and sub is wireless and pre-matched so there is no fumbling to connect the two. Choose HDMI, optical or analog and plug it in. A word of caution here though, if you connect this to an HDMI or optical source that does not turn off, the unit will not turn off either. I had initially connected this to my cable box, which I do not turn off, and the unit kept turning back on. Tech support indicated this is supposed to happen. In addition to the 3 hard wire methods, the Magnifi Mini also has Bluetooth and google Chromecast which can be hard wired with an either net cable or by Wi-Fi. Looks The speaker itself is about a foot wide, 3 inches high and about 5 inches deep. I can pick it up with one hand. It’s made of plastic but has a good solid feel and has some weight to it. The sub is black plastic with a downward firing speaker. There is a vertical LED display that uses dots and color to indicate connectivity, volume and settings. The remote is well thought out and easy to handle. There is no back lighting but it's not really needed. The volume is a trough in the middle with a separator between up and down. The mode buttons are across the top, bass selection on the left side and voice level on the right. Sound & Modes There are three preset modes, movie, sports and music. The sport preset raises the voice and mid-tones. I prefer this for my listening taste over the others. The volume is perfect for my small apartment living room. Surround sound would be nice but this does the trick. Google I used my Google home app to connect to the speakers and it went smoothly. Once the Chromecast was connected to the network it updated the software. Chromecast works great, no problems to report. I cast through the google home app and no trouble to report. Bluetooth Bluetooth connections also work great. Pairing was a simple as pressing a button. I Connected this to my Amazon Echo Dot and it works flawlessly. The only faults I have with this unit are the remote control and volume control levels. The remote design is well thought out but the actions are very slow and sluggish. The volume control has 5 LEDs but seem to have mid levels. It appears levels 1-3 are very low, 4 & 5 get very loud. There is really no comfortable middle level. Pros: Looks Size Sound Cons: Remote Volume control I would recommend this to a friend.

This new sound bar was just what I needed for my new tv in my room. It's compact , easy to install and the wireless subwoofer is the best. The clear and dynamic sound beat those other expensive soundbars. You can even conect your wireless phone or tablet to the soundbar by Bluetooth to listen to your favorite music. There's a Night mode button to reduce the bass during the night.

I picked this up because my bedroom has very limited space but the sound from my TV was lacking. This is really small and quite frankly sounds great for the size. No, this does not compete with my 5.1 surround sound system in my man cave but I am very satisfied. Out of the box I was impressed that it comes with every cable that you might need to get set up. The center speaker is automatically paired with the subwoofer (wireless connection) so it works just about instantly once they are both connected to power and the sound bar is plugged into an audio source. In my case I have it connected to my tv with a optical cable (included) and it sounds much better than the tv speakers. Another very nice benefit is that it will connect with your Bluetooth devices which is also easy. Using my tablet, I have access to my entire music library on my server and can enjoy listening when I am not wanting to watch TV. For the money this is worth it especially if you have really limited space.

I'm pretty sure I was charged full price for an open box product. Upon getting home I realized the seals to the box were cut open, I opened the box and the power cords were undone and just laid on top. I buy from Best buy a the time and I never had any issues but it makes me feel very uncomfortable that I received an open item that could have been tampered with. There staff should have realized that the box was open and offered a discount because now I feel like I was ripped off. I'll most likely be returning the item if a discount or some type of action isn't taken.

Bought 12/11/19 from BestBuy. The model in the store sounded great. This was did too for a short time. Then I noticed the audio did not sync with the cable box. Streaming it was ok. The sound quality continued to deteriorate, getting scratchy sounding, then another day it would be fine. Yesterday it just quit. Won't come on at all. I have a regular sized Polk soundbar that I've had for years that never has the synching problem. Always works, always sounds great. Don't waste your money on this overpriced unit. Get a regular soundbar.

These speakers ar not very well suited for bigger rooms. They do not effectively project voice in larger rooms. The volume has to be turned up really high in all modes before you can gain clarity in what is being said. They do however have decent, clean sound for music and movie sound efffects. Again, Do not count on full understanding of what’s being communicated in words of regular tv or movies. Would not purchase these again.

The subwoofer may need to be resynced to the bar. Unplug the Subwoofer from the outlet for five minutes before plugging back in. The Sub should automatically resync with the bar. Additionally, if experiencing pairing issues, check for other wireless devices nearby, as the Soundbar communicates with the soundbar via RF. Other nearby wireless devices, including wireless routers, can cause communication issues. The sub or other wireless devices may need to be relocated. The soundbar would “freeze” and would stop responding to the remote as well as to the buttons on the soundbar. The power source would have to be unplugged and then plugged in again for it to work. I had it for about a week and it seemed like every day it had to be unplugged/plugged for it to work. It wasn’t worth it for me so I returned it.

The setup on this unit was simple. I plugged it in to my power strip and the subwoofer into the wall. I connected the soundbar to my tv via the provided digital optical cable and I was listening in under two minutes. This sound bar delivers excellent sound. It has a nice mix of bass and treble and the voices come through really clear. The subwoofer delivers nice bass. I was a little reluctant as the woofer speakers are on the bottom of the woofer that it would be muffled but that was not the case. The remote is easy to use and comes with three preloaded settings for movies, sports and music. It fits perfect in tight spaces as the unit is small but powerful sound. The only negatives were removing the back cover of the remote was a little difficult for inserting the batteries. I also have found the remote does not have great range. I am about 20 feet away. It does work but I feel if I move closer it is more responsive. Nice unit with quality sound.

Good sound from a small package, but not great

Soundbars come in all shapes size and price these days but if your taste runs to small, it’s hard to get much smaller than Polk’s new Magnifi Mini. The main speaker enclosure barely qualifies as a sound bar at all since it only a smidge over a foot in length. I’ve had center speakers on surround sound systems bigger than that. But if you were hoping the old adage about good things coming in small packages applies to this package, you might be disappointed. Despite Polk’s best efforts, small speakers mean small sound. Or at least smaller than you can get with bigger speakers. You will never mistake this for a full blown home theater sound system or even a bigger high-end soundbar setup. Highs are quite good, as you might expect. Lows from the hefty 6 1/2-inch subwoofer are quite strong too. But midrange is barely there at all. There is only so much you can do with tiny speakers, no matter how many of them there are. (There are six, amazingly enough, crammed into the main speaker enclosure.) Oh sure, it sounds a LOT better than standard TV speakers. The wireless subwoofer, housed in a large oddly shaped rounded cabinet adds plenty of punch. Too much sometimes, But the tightly packed collection of small speakers in the main soundbar seem to struggle sometimes. They can shine on very high notes, as long as the volume is not too high (distortion is a problem there) but can’t manage to pump out enough midrange to produce a what I would consider a natural sound. Everything from music to movies sounded a bit flat to me. Another issue: Since the speakers are crammed into such a small short enclosure, it always sounded mono to me. Zero stereo separation, despite the 2.0 designation. And no simulated surround sound, of course. I assume the most outboard speakers on each end of the soundbar are pointed off at more than 45 degree angles to address this issue but it doesn’t seem to help much One saving grace, however, is the excellent Voice Adjust feature that allows you to pump up dialogue on movies, which seem perpetually too low in most surround sound tracks. That works well. There is a special voice volume control feature on the remote. There are also special equalization buttons for optimum sound with music, sports and movies, as well as a night mode that mutes the bass. All seem to hit the mark pretty well. I am less enthused about the remote, despite the fact that is bigger than the tiny credit card type remotes that come with a lot of soundbars. That’s good. So is the fact that it has controls for main volume, as well as individual volume controls for voice and bass. The problem (aside for the cheap no-name batteries that come with it) is the IR blaster. Very precise aiming is required for it to work. It must be slightly above the soundbar and aimed directly at it. Probably OK for living room setups, but not for bedrooms, where the aim is likely to be dead on or lower than the soundbar. That simply does not work. I had the same problem when I programmed a third party remote so the issue must be the IR receiver on the soundbar, which seems to be behind the speaker cloth. Which may explain why it barely works. Too persnickety for my taste. The speaker also seems a bit slow to respond and it’s impossible to tell where you are in the range of each control. A vertical row of tiny LEDS on the front of the speaker is supposed to tell you all sorts of things depending on what color they are, how many LEDs are lit, which ones are lit, etc. Good luck remembering the crazy secret code. A not very useful design. A text or graphics capable screen would have been more useful. The good news is the soundbar automatically comes on when you turn on the TV (with HDMI or optical connections.) With some delay. The build quality is excellent, at least on the main speaker cabinet. The rounded case is sturdy black plastic and the speakers are covered by a black speaker cloth. Quality work. Very heavy for its size. Membrane buttons for power, Bluetooth, volume and sound modes run across the top but are black on black and not backlit so are mostly invisible except in bright light. You have a choice of HDMI (ARC), optical or aux cable connections to your TV. All cables are provided, a nice plus. Chromecast is built in as is blutetooth support and wi-fi, which is necessary for Chromecast to work. Installation was easy thanks actual printed instructions, almost unheard of in this day and age. Everything worked right away, right of the box. (It defaults to HDMI so you have to change TV input to optical or aux if you go that route) Bottom line. If space is in short supply and you are not too picky about sound quality, the Magnifi Mini may be just the ticket. Given it’s small size, it produces pretty decent sound. But those with more discerning ears or who demand better stereo spatial imaging, as well as 5.1 sound, will need to keep looking.
