My several month old 55" Hisense TV provides a beautiful picture and it's built in speakers provide acceptable sound. After installing the Polk MagniFI 2 sound bar & wireless 8" subwoofer speaker -- AWESOME exhilarating sound. I would not have believed such incredible sound could be installed effortlessly in under 5 minutes. Directions asked if TV had an HDMI receptacle marked ARC or eARC. My TV had ARC. I simply took 30 seconds to connect the provided HDMI cable to my ARC TV slot and to the sound bar ARC slot. Next came the power cord to an outlet, and finally a power cord from an outlet to the 8" Subwoofer. I turned on the TV and voila -- I was blown away. I watched a war movie and the bass filled the room with the sounds of bomb explosion that reverberated throughout my large family room. I switched to the news, and the voice clarity was beyond excellent. I increased bass, decreased bass, adjusted levels with the provided remote. Everything connected and paired effortlessly. I have Google speakers, lights, etc. all connected via wi-fi, and now the Polk audio integrates beautifully for just listening to music. In short, my TV audio went from acceptable to enthralling in minutes with installation that even a child could handle in less than 5 minutes.Love it and highly recommend it to enhance all your TV watching hours.

Now that I have this set the way I want it, I'm pretty pleased with this soundbar. But I don’t think this was worth the original $499 price point. I just don’t think it operates in that price range. It’s a fairly well-designed system visually. But it feels like you’re flying blind during the setup as there is no on screen guide and the only indicators are colored LED lights on the front. I ended up opting to go with the optical input to manage the audio. I think I simplified it enough to where I wasn’t just guessing what input I was on or if the lights that indicate the input was actually the volume level. The surround sound itself is great as long as you are close to being centered in the sound field. The surround effect is lost kind of sharply if you move away. The bass from the subwoofer is nice. It’s not going to blow your socks off but it pairs well with the output of the soundbar itself and doesn’t drown it out. The biggest issue I have with it is when I stream audio from my phone through Bluetooth. In particularly with Spotify. There is a noticeable popping noise coming from the soundbar. I found adjusting the EQ in Spotify itself managed to fix the issue. However, I haven’t experienced this before with any other device I have streamed to in the exact same way. Overall, I think it’s a decent unit. I hope that some of these issues can be fixed with a firmware update down the road.

    Great sound, CEC problems

The Polk Audio MagniFi 2 Sound Bar offers great sound quality and plenty of connections for all your equipment. Connected to my existing TV exactly how I had my Sony sound bar connected and things went down hill from there. CEC is non existent in this device. The previous sound bar connected to my Apple TV would work seamlessly, push button to turn on Apple TV, sound bar comes on, TV comes on, switches input and off we go. Not with this unit, need to use the included sound bar remote along with the Apple TV remote and the TV remote. Unfortunate because this unit could have been so much better. It has Chromecast built-in, 3 HDMI inputs and HDMI Out (ARC), Optical in and Bluetooth. Read somewhere that there was an update to the unit and I thought this would solve the CEC issue, nope. In order to receive updates you need to connect to wifi via the Google Home app for iOS or Android devices. Not a big deal for me since I am an existing user and familiar with the Google Home app. That is all the help you are going to get from the manual too on this step. If you can deal with the CEC issues, this is a pretty decent sound bar, sound quality wise, with deep bass and 5 sound modes to adjust to your liking and "Voice Adjust" to easily adjust the dialogue levels for improved clarity. For me, it just falls a star short with the lack of control from other devices.

Out of the box, there’s no excess bells and whistles. Just the sound bar, subwoofer, remote, and attachment cables. This is a heavier unit, which was my first observation, replacing my LG 2.1 system that is a couple years old at this point. Setup out of the box was nothing out of the ordinary one way or the other, if you’ve had a sound bar in the past, this is a pretty easy setup. I rested my bar right under my elevated TV, a Samsung 65” Q80T, and then the subwoofer across the room under one of our end tables. I chose to connect using the optics cable instead of HDMI since there’s never been a noticeable difference in quality either way and I’d rather save my HDMI ports for other things. The only perk to connecting directly through HDMI that I could determine is that it pairs more seamlessly with your TV volume controls, but seeing as this remote is pretty in depth, again, I’d rather chose optic and to control the sound bar separately. The software portion of the setup was also quit simple. For the most part, I was able to plug in right away, and it was automatically paired to the subwoofer so no extra work was needed. From a sound quality standpoint, and this is honestly what matters most, it really does a phenomenal job. It packs a strong punch that gives you a near theatre like experience. The mid and high sounds come through very well, and my favorite feature being the dialogue mode which allows you to better hear the dialogue in shows, as well as adjust the volume on it. Great for old farts like me who would rather cut through the background noise in some shows. The remote is the best I’ve used in a sound bar, allowing you to easily adjust bass, dialogue, balance, and using different preset sound settings that Polk put together for the system such as movie or sports mode. There are Google play capabilities and connects through Bluetooth as well. I didn’t pair with Google play but streamed songs from my phone and it came across better than ever. The only downside that I experienced and the reason it’s not getting a full five stars, is that the bass comes through pretty muddled, especially compared to how the rest of the system sounds. For first timers and the general public, this likely won’t be noticeable but for me it was. I tried putting on a hard surface instead of the carpet and it seemed amplified so back to the carpet it went. Overall, the system gets a big thumbs up from me. For being my first product from Polk, I was pleasantly surprised by the look and quality, let alone the great quality of sound. This is definitely recommended unless you’re a staunch audiophile, then you may want to look elsewhere instead.

The audio quality is excellent. Watching Infinity War on Disney+ is very satisfying, surround sound is passed through to the speaker via ARC and the bass made my floor rumble. Listening to Youtube Music is also excellent, it has very clear high note and voice and wide sound space, feels like you are immersed in a big room with big sound. The bass is very tight shows that it has enough power to drive the subwoofer. It is very easy to setup too, just connect the power, hdmi to ARC on TV, 4K bluray player can be connected to the speaker or to the TV and you can start enjoying the sound. Connect to wifi is also very easy, just install Google Home and follow instruction. Bluetooth connection is as easy. This will be the best and most popular sound bar if it can decode DTS:X, unfortunately DTS:X is not supported. You will have to configure your 4K bluray player to downmix DTS:X to PCM.. Recommended if you only do streaming and not recommended if you need to watch 4K bluray with DTS:X

Hello, sorry to hear of your frustrations. May I recommend testing another input? If the Soundbar is connected to a television with an optical output, connect the soundbar to the TV using this method. If the soundbar functions correctly with the optical input, try swapping out the HDMI cable with another. HDMI uses two-way communication. If the communication is interrupted, the sound and picture will drop out. The most common HDMI communication issues are wrong or bad HDMI cables. Immersive and Flexible but lacking strong Bass

I’ve owned several Polk speakers over the years so my expectations were high when I got the MagniFi2 soundbar. I have always felt that Polk is very good at producing speakers that provide very clear mids and highs and this soundbar did not disappoint in that regard. The bass while ok was not as impressive for a couple of reasons as discussed below. The preconfigured equalizer settings for music, movie, night, sport and 3D give you some interesting options and using the voice and bass control adds to the flexibility. Overall this is a good soundbar for the money. Pros: - Supported all my 4k content whether I was streaming or using my DVD player. - Three HDMI ports and ARC support - Good clear frequency response especially across the mids and highs for music. - The Voice Adjust is really nice for shows and sports when you need to increase the vocal ranges. - The LEDs on the front of the soundbar are intuitive once you understand their function. - The sound stage is quite large and Polk does a good job producing virtual surround sound. - The 3D audio mode adds some dimension to the soundstage. This feature can be amazing on one video and flat out bad on the next. With this turned on it seems like the bass is lessened which can also be a negative. - Simple set up for the Wi-Fi connection via Google Home as well as Bluetooth. Both worked with no issues. - The Subwoofer automatically paired with the soundbar and the connection stayed solid without any drop outs. Concerns: - The only complaint I have with the audio quality is with the bass. At times it seemed like the bass was lacking punch or muffled. - The subwoofer has very short legs so if you have carpet the carpeting can “deaden” the subwoofer response. My subwoofer sank deep enough that there was barely a fingers width between the subwoofer frame and carpet. - If you are wall mounting the soundbar you have to make certain there is enough room between the bottom of the TV and the top of the soundbar for you to reach the manual buttons. - The remote control is well laid out but the buttons can be difficult to find in low light and they require a fair amount of push to actuate the button. - The 3D affect can really enhance some movies but in others it becomes a detriment. The audio soundstage is expanded but it also increases some of the background sounds which can be overwhelming. It also can introduce some reverberation and echo which can be distracting. - No eARC support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats. I found that some of my DVDs (Top Gun for example) didn’t play the audio because the soundbar does not support Dolby Digital True HD. By making changes to the DVD player settings or the movie’s audio settings I was able to get all them to play audio eventually. - No Dolby Atmos or DTS:X support but it does have Polk’s 3D variant. Setup: My TV supports ARC so I connected the HDMI cable to my TV’s ARC HDMI port and it was up and working. When I went to wall mount the soundbar I realized that getting to the buttons could be problematic so I made sure it was a couple of inches below the TV. The subwoofer paired with the soundbar on power-up and was operational without me having to do anything. I next added the soundbar to my Google Home account and put the soundbar on my wi-fi network so I could cast to it. All this was simple and straight forward without any type of issue.

    A decent first soundbar

If you are in the market for your first soundbar, the Polk Audio MagniFi 2 is a good choice. It gives you the sense of surround sound without having to run wires everywhere. Setup is straightforward; just plug in the soundbar and the subwoofer to an outlet and they automatically connect to each other. The two built-in HDMI ports on the soundbar allow for easy switching between different sources via the remote. Speaking of which, the remote has a soft texture on the contact surface and feels good in the hand. I am concerned about grime building up on it over the long-term though. The MagniFi 2 is powerful enough to annoy your neighbors if you crank it and live in an apartment complex. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is up to you. The dedicated vocal level adjustment does make it easier to hear dialogue without ruining the other sounds in the scene. With that being said, there are a few things that I didn’t care for. The only display on the unit is a row of LED lights that illuminate in a few different colors. This works well enough for level adjustment but isn’t very helpful for communicating which input you currently have selected. Also, I consider the subwoofer to be anemic. I currently have it set to as high as it will go to achieve what I think is a reasonable amount of bass. When set to the default level, you can barely hear it. I will say that the bass never gets boomy or overpowering which is nice but I would like more punch than it is capable of. At high volumes, roughly 75% and above, the sound coming from the soundbar begins to crackle and distort. This occurred even with all the adjustments set to their default levels. Admittedly, most people will rarely turn it up that loud, if ever. But I feel that a speaker should work perfectly at every volume that you are able to set it to without distortion. I have owned soundbars from other manufacturers that don’t have this issue so I know it is possible. However, it does work well at all reasonable volume levels so I can’t knock it too hard.

Compared to other soundbars in this price range I would rate it as very good but it didn't blow me away. I'm comparing it to my Definitive Technology soundbar though which isn't really fair as the Definitive cost more than twice as much. The Polk has good bass and an ample array of adjustments. The remote is a quality piece as well. Setup is super easy with optical or HDMI. I am using it in my bedroom so I don't need it to be super loud as I usually only watch TV in there at night.

This system sure packs a big punch to be the size it is. The voice clarity is better than my other 7.2 Surround system, its so clear and precise. The 8 inch wireless sub does a great job delivering lows. Subwoofers are non-directional so feel free to place it where ever you want inside the room. I found behind the couch gave it the best sound and feel. For the price point you really get a lot and its quality is without question. You can mount the bar on the wall, or leave it under the TV on the entertainment system. Either way it will fill the room with crisp, clear, Polk sound. The system is a snap to hook up, just make sure there's a power outlet for the subwoofer, but you do not need speaker wire. This is a perfect gaming surround system too. My Xbox One games went to a whole new level. If space is an issue, no worries..The bar is well under 40 inches long, very light, but delivers big sound...The remote is easy to use and not confusing. This system is perfect for every day use, or movie nights. You will not beat this system unless you spend a lot more money..So the value is one of the biggest pluses for me. This thing will definitely take your TV, movie, and games to the next level. I highly recommend it
