Customers are saying

Customers highly value the Signa S2's sound quality, bass, and ease of use, frequently praising its impressive audio performance and user-friendly features. Many also appreciate the soundbar's compact size and affordable price point. While some users suggest improvements to the remote control and the lack of a display, the positive feedback on the sound and ease of setup outweighs these minor drawbacks. The Bluetooth connectivity is also a frequently cited advantage.

    Best Soundbar System Under $200

Don't sleep on this Polk Signa S2 soundbar w/ wireless sub! There are definitely a couple of other solid options in this price range as well (I was deciding between this, Sony, and Vizio; all with external subs). But this one just stood out to me! Very balanced mids, the highs aren't harsh and the bass is DEEP. Clear winner (for me) when it came down to hearing music based content. Love using it as my go-to Bluetooth speaker. Polk just recently gave this model an update too, as this S2 version was just released in August 2018. If I had to give any drawback about this product it would be that it does not have a numeric volume or bass EQ indicator on my TV screen or on the product itself (other than a flashing dot on the front of the soundbar). Not a big deal considering this price point, but it would be nice to know exactly where I am. Otherwise, amazing product at an affordable price. If you can find it at Best Buy when it's on sale for $150, it truly is the best buy!

After purchasing a new 4K tv I needed to get some new sounds. After doing a ton of research I decided to go with the Polk SIGNA 2. I am not disappointed at all, first of all it does have HDMI and you should plug it into the HDMI (ARC) on your tv. The SIGNA 1 didn’t have a hdmi, so for the same price it makes sense to get the one with the hdmi port. Just plug it into the ARC port it will work perfectly. The sound bar and sub is perfect for a medium sized room. Base is more than enough and speech and minor sounds come through clearly. Watched movies in Dolby surround played video games and watched regular cable box programming, the soundbar and sub handled everything. The set up was effortless and the wireless sub connected in seconds. The sound bar also comes with a paper template and has screw holes in the back so I mounted it without an issue and it looks great. All that’s left is to get some wire hiders. Bottom line if you are looking for a budget friendly soundbar with a sub from a reputable speaker manufacturer look no further.

I needed to replace an aging (but adequate) large speaker stereo sound system (and needed to create more space in the living room) and looked into sound bars. I tested several options (multiple times, on different days and in different stores) for sound bars in the under $200 price range and I kept coming back to this one. Not having shopped for a sound unit like this I wasn't familiar with the Polk brand and didn't expect much when I tested it against the other familiar (to me) brands. By far this sound bar had the best sound of all of its peers. It certainly doesn't have the full sonic range of a more expensive system but for my small apartment (and my budget) - where I can't crank the volume too much - the sound is full, clear in the mid and upper range, has surprisingly defined and impactful bass (almost window rattling, but not quite) and it is great for my needs! I will eventually graduate to a more expensive option but for now this unit has what I was looking for. Full, rich, cinematic sound, reasonable price, small footprint, easy to set up. It did take me a few days to get used to the sound (I had been using the same Teac stereo receiver and Pioneer cabinet speakers for the last 30 years) but the sound bar 'settled in' and my ears 'settled in' (if you're not familiar with how speakers and their components work, it takes a little time for new speakers/headphones, etc. to get 'broken in' before you experience the true sound of the components. In some cases, the installation/use instructions will tell you how long to play music/sound through the speakers so that they can 'settle' in to your environment. When you listen to the units in the store, they are already 'broken in', which is why, very often, when you get the unit home, it doesn't sound the same to your ears as it did in the store. This is something that I learned a long time ago after having returned units to the store thinking that they didn't sound right. Take your time and watch your return policy dates!) Overall, very pleased with this sound bar. Truly elevated my listening experience!

The strong overall rating on this product is warranted. It is compact, has a natural sound, clean bass, and a few features that make it an excellent choice in the $200 range. Reviewers compare it to products up to $100 more and from what I can tell, the Polk outperforms most of them. Stretch into the $500 range and you likely pick up some precision that most listeners won’t notice. As you are reading reviews, keep in mind that there are many user viewpoints. Some (like myself) are mostly interested in general music performance. Others are looking for movie audio effects, like flying helicopters and dropping bombs around your living room. Still others are gamers who expect the subwoofer to push them into the next room. The first two groups will like the Polk; the third may want to invest in a dedicated powered subwoofer. Not to say that the Polk lacks bass. I have the bass volume lowered, because I want the band to sound like the band, not like the bass drum. The S2 frequency range of 45-20k HZ is all there and well-mannered. The remote is friendly and audio control is adequate, particularly for equipment in this price range. Only slight annoyances came with the unit. As others have stated, the documentation is poor. Other than a quick start guide (which will only get you started if you have a new TV), the remainder of your setup will be instructed from user reviews and YouTube. If you have an older TV (less than 10 years old, with both HDMI and Optical and CEC), you’re in luck. Plug in both the HDMI and optical cables (provided) and go into the TV setup menu. Turn the CEC on and set the speaker preference to the Polk. Your TV remote should now support the basic functions. Don’t hide the Polk remote, though, because there are some very useful features there. In a day when so many manufacturers are turning our cell phones into lousy remotes, it’s nice to just be able to pick up a real remote and push a dedicated button. Another slight annoyance is that my TV’s on-screen volume display (1….99) is replaced by a simple word ‘Volume +’, so if you are accustomed to setting your TV to ‘volume 5’, you’ll now have to use your ears to decide if it is loud enough. That is so yesterday, I know, but my ears still work, and I can figure this one out. Otherwise, I am very satisfied with this purchase and I highly recommend it for anyone wanting good musical quality trying to stay under $300. At $199, this was one of the few times that I was OK paying full price and still felt like I got a good deal.

Sounds WAAAAAAY better than the TV

I needed a new 2.1 soundbar for my kitchen tv. If it cost $500 or more, I'd say it sounds "good", but for the $140 I paid, it sounds GREAT!!! Comparing it to the TV is almost a joke. There is no comparison. Before I got this, I was listening to the TV speakers plus an actual 10" home theater subwoofer connected to the TV's analog audio outputs. It's amazing how much just adding a real subwoofer to the TV can improve the sound from the TV's speakers. Unfortunately, most TV's don't have a variable analog output that can send audio to a sub while at the same time still utilizing the tv's speaker's. The "bass module" (5" woofer?) that comes with this system can't produce the deep bass like the 10" subwoofer, but it sounds good for what it is. It's got a good punch to it. I wish POLK would have given the user more control over the sound with good ol' BASS, MIDRANGE and TREBLE adjustments rather than just a very coarse BASS adjustment. I would like to turn the treble down just a smidge. Once the warranty runs out, I might open it up and experiment by putting resistors on the tweeters. I also wish the volume adjustments weren't so coarse. I'm using the HDMI ARC connection and what was once a change in volume by "1" on my TV screen, is now a change in volume by "3" (or "4"). In other words, the volume no longer goes up single digits as it did with the TV speakers. Rather, it goes up (or down) by 3 or 4 (can't remember right now) with each press of the volume button. It can be a little hard getting the volume just right. Speaking of volume, this thing gets VERY LOUD. It's not perfect (5 stars), but I definitely recommend it as a strong option for budgets under $250 for those who don't care about surround sound.

All I can say is wow. This sound bar blew me away. The bass and sound quality is amazing for the price. I would go out on a limb and say this sound bar has the sound quality of a Bose speaker that would be ten times the price. If your on a budget I’d highly recommend this Polk sound bar. The audio is crystal clear and it was very easy to set up using the included HDMI cable. I didn’t even have to read the owners manual. I also want to give a huge shoutout to Best Buy for their amazing shipping, I ordered this sound bar Friday Night and they told me I would receive it today which is Saturday. And sure enough I received a text From a Shipt driver telling me he picked up my order and was on his way. I didn’t even know Best Buy did that. Seems like they are trying to step up their game and compete with another online retailer. I will Definitely order from them again.

The Good, Bad and not so ugly S2

This is an honest review by a customer, and will tell you things not in the owners guide. The S2 is a very good unit for the price point. It produces good sound, audible voice, sufficient bass response, and plenty loud! It will not give you sound stage performance at $139 but I found it to be far superior to 3 other units I've purchased for my Vizio 65 inch Smart TV. All of them returned but I'm keeping the S2, The soundbar and Sub are well constructed and really nice in appearance. Setup was the simplest I've encountered. I used the HDMI ARC and have had no connection issues. My negative comment is regarding the remote and the soundbar front panel lights. There is little intuitive indications on the panel when the remote settings are used. Volume will not be shown on the bar but on most TVs, on the screen. Bass level only flashes the green light once each push. NOTE: When at the highest or lowest level of bass, the green light flashes 3 times. Other than a purple light which lights momentarily for the 3 video presets, and 3 Voice Assist levels, there is no way to tell what the soundbar is doing. Note: When the soundbar is turn off, then on again, it resets to a standard tv state which means mid bass, 60% volume, and is not in any of the presets Movie, Nite, or Music. Voice Assist is basically 0 until you push 1-2-3. The soundbar does not retain the previously used settings. Yes, the power save is annoying as it shuts off the bar after about 15 minutes. When I do not see a green light after pausing a movie or tv show, I simply turn on the bar, wait a second or two for steady green light/s and continue watching. Truthfully, once you get used to the small insignificant quirks, you'll find it easy use.

Wow! I purchased two of these Polk S2's after purchasing two other sound bars from another popular brand. The other two cost may more, and I started using them on two different tv's well before finally hooking up the two Polk soundbars to two other tv's. These Polk's cost way less and sound waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy better! These Polk Signa's sound wonderful! I played with the sound settings and can hear all the details in voices, background music, and other sounds. The subwoofer adds a great depth to the sound with the bass it produces. The total sound quality and volume is excellent! This Polk S2 is definitely a great buy for everything you're getting sound and function-wise for the price. I wish I would have hooked these up earlier, because I likely would've returned the two other soundbars from the other brand and gone with all Polk S2's. I have all of my soundbars connected via ARC, and the Polk S2 connected flawlessly with the two different brands of tv I have them connected to. Interestingly the other two soundbars are from a brand that are the same at the tv brand they're hooked up to. One of the Polk S2's is also hooked up to that other brand tv. It works better with that brand tv than the other soundbars that are the same as the brand of the tv because those soundbars periodically don't transmit sound via ARC sometimes when powered on. The only thing I wish was different is the front display on the Polk S2 soundbar. There are a few white dots and one blue dot. It would be nice to be able to see an actual analogue display showing what's going (i.e. "Volume" with a number to show what level the volume is) on rather than just seeing flashing dots when you adjust a feature. The remote is well designed and has a lot of detail so you know what features you're changing in case you lose track of the dots. Super happy I went with the Polk S2. Try it out, and I think you'll be happy too. Hope this helps. Thanks. Matthew 7:12

Decent Sound, Great Price, Bad Controls

We just recently bought a new flat screen TV that had horrible sound, so we decided to get a sound bar. We wanted something that wasn't too pricey but had a decent sound to it. This one definitely hits those two categories. It was the best quality sound in its price range, by far. My biggest complaint would easily be that remote control is super finicky and you have to constantly adjust to find that one spot that will let you adjust the sound and settings. I also don't like that it has no display to indicate your current sound level. Only a couple lights on the front that mean nothing unless you are standing on top of the unit to see what they represent. For the price, you can't really go wrong in terms of sound output, but it is far from perfect. The sound tends to go from way too soft to way too loud with only a couple presses of the volume button, so it can sometimes be difficult to find that sweet balance between hearing soft dialogue and not blowing your windows out during hard hitting action scenes. All in all I would recommend this sound bar if you are trying to get some reasonably good sound for a budget, but if you can afford a little more, there are definitely better options to consider.

I’ve used several sound bars recently and in the past, and then got my hands on this POLK audio unit. This unit is very sleek and slim so it doesn’t block the signal on my TV’s remote input sensor. The sound coming from this system sound great. I’ve tried it with my TV or pairing the Bluetooth from my phone and both sound great. POLK has always been one of the leaders in the market and the sound quality remains constant over the years. The bass module is wireless and sounds great also. Setting this system up was simple and the remote also works very good. I’m very happy with this system. We use it in our bedroom when watching TV or listening to music since our main TV has a full surround which we live so we wanted to have similar sound quality in the bedroom. I highly recommend this system to others.

Been looking for a “SOUND BAR” For awhile now and BOY did I hit the “JACKPOT” with this one! Brought it home hooked up and “WOW” what a punch! AWESOME CRISP SOUND AND PERFECT BASS AND THE WIRELESS SUB TO GOOD TO BE TRUE! Only Thing I didn’t like about it is the length of the POWER and HDMI cords way to short! Had to purchase a longer HDMI cord and use an extension cord for it to work! But aside from that AWESOME SOUND BAR SYSTEM FOR THE PRICE I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS ONE TO ANYONE!

I bought this soundbar for use with my office tv. I was tired of hearing the tiny tv speakers and figured this would give me a good upgrade without needed a full A/V receiver. Compared to my proper $700 stereo Polk system I would say it doest hold a candle but I didn't buy it to replace those speakers and for watching movies or tv while I'm working or gaming its perfect. The sound is clear and is well balanced. The sub works better than I expected but is lakong compared to a proper 12" sub. Overall, I would say this is similar in sound to a high end PC speaker system such as the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 except these are easier to setup and use with your TV. I am very happy with this purchase, if you are looking for an upgrade for your tv without going through the hassle of an proper setup, this is for you! Now, it won't replace your proper 5.1 system but for most folks these are more than sufficient
