Poly Voyager 4310 headset - A Top Performer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Today I am reviewing the Poly Voyager 4310 noise cancelling headset. This is being reviewed with my Samsung S22 ultra phone, my Yealink VoIP desk phone, my business laptop with Microsoft Teams, and even my Anytone 878UVII+ amateur radio handheld radio. I first started using Plantronics headsets in the 1980s while in the USAF. It was the old Quietstar headsets. It used audio tubes and were excellent in loud environments, like on a flight line. It had amazing audio quality and a PPT button so it could be used in secure facilities. I still have that Quietstar headset, but only for nostalgic reasons. So, when I saw this headset, I was excited to try them out. Plantronics and Polycom merged and became Poly. Plantronics is a leader in headset technology, and Polycom is a leader in audio and video teleconferencing. So, these two companies combining technologies has the potential to make excellent equipment. First Impression: My initial impression of the headset is that it is very well made. The mouthpiece can be rotated 360 degrees, allowing it to be used on either side of the head, and be adjusted for your own personal preference. It also comes with a BT700 USB plug. This plugs into your computer’s USB port and allows the headset to be used with Microsoft Teams and conferencing programs like Zoom and Go To Meeting. Features: The Poly 4310 will connect to 2 devices simultaneously. It has a really good battery that lasts more than one day. It claims 24 hours of use, and I used it for two 9-hour days and did not run out of battery until the third day. It also has a dual mic with noise cancellation. Fit: The headset sits securely but comfortably on the head. Some headsets feel like tight clamps on the head. After 30 minutes of use, I’m popping Ibuprofen to rid the headaches. The 4310 is firmly held in place without being uncomfortable. I know it’s on my head, but it’s very comfortable. Initial Setup: The headset paired immediately on my Samsung S22 Ultra without any issue. I installed the Plantronics Hub app, and it immediately found a firmware update. I updated the headset, and it took about 4 minutes to download and install. I plugged in the BT700 USB plug into my Dell Inspiron 5420 laptop. It lit up and immediately showed up as BT700 in the BT section to be paired. As soon as it paired, it connected to the headset. App: The Poly Voyager 4310 uses an app called Plantronics Hub. It is an easy-to-use app that allows you full control over all the features and firmware updates for the headset. The settings are divided into four categories: General, Ringtone and Volume, Wireless, and Advanced. There are 17 different settings ranging from sound, behavior, notifications, and noise exposure. Each of the settings has an explanation of what it does and what the result of using it is. You really have granular control over this headset. Performance: I did my first test call from my VoIP phone, and the audio was really good. The caller reported my audio from the headset was also really good (I asked). I did 2 more calls, and both of those also reported good audio coming from the headset. The received audio for me was also good. There were conversations going on in the background of my office, and it was not picked up because of the noise cancellation. The next test was on a Teams meeting on my laptop. As soon as the Teams meeting began, the headset was connected and working. Again, the receive audio was good, and I told them I was testing a new headset and everyone on the distant end said the audio was good. The last test was with a Zoom meeting on my laptop. While waiting for the meeting to start, I change the speakers on my laptop to the headset. However, the audio kept coming out of the laptop speakers. No matter what I tried, it wouldn’t switch. As soon as the Zoom meeting started, I selected the headset from within Zoom and it immediately started working. The headset is said to have a Bluetooth range of 160’. I work in an office building and the restroom is 85’ away. There are 5 offices between mine and the bathroom with around 14 walls and furniture. Connected to my PC, I walked to the restroom and made it into the restroom before the BT disconnected. This is really good considering everything between me and my laptop. I then walked to the end of the hall, which is about 160’, and I never lost signal, nor did I hear any scratchy noise or experience dropouts. Finally, between all the meetings, I listened to music from Apple Music on my laptop. Listening to various genres, the audio reproduced by this headset was remarkable clean and sounded good. It was not at audiophile-level, but for a communications headset, it sounded really good. Most communication headsets are tailored to speech and don’t always sound good musically. That’s not the case here. The highs were crisp and tight, and the lows were low and not distorted. Ham Radios: I also paired this headset with my amateur radio. It is an Anytone 878UVII+ DMR analog/digital dual band handheld radio. The radio quickly found the Poly 4310 and the two paired immediately. I was able to hear everything over the radio, and the voice quality was great. I was not able to transmit through the headset as there was no push-to-talk on the headset. That’s not a problem with this headset as the radio has an external Bluetooth push-to-talk button available. This does not in any way count against the Poly 4310. This is a duplex headset and is meant to be used that way. My testing it with the radio is outside of the design of the headset, and it was never meant to be used this way. But I always like to see if they work, because I’m always looking for good quality, BT headsets for ham radio. Conclusion: The Poly Voyager 4310 noise canceling Bluetooth headset is a really nice headset. I’m not surprised; merging Plantronics with Polycom was sure to produce some amazing communications headsets. The app allows you to tailor every aspect of this headset, and the battery lasts for a very long time. The audio quality is good on both ends, and the noise reduction worked very good in the office. This Poly Voyager 4310 is staying at work and is now permanently mated to my Yealink SIP-T53W phone. If you need a good Bluetooth headset that pairs easily, sounds really good, has excellent battery life, is comfortable for all day use, and can be used for extended periods without making your ears feel tired, then I highly recommend the Poly Voyager 4310 headset.
