    Not For Me

This is one of those classic 80's films that everyone has seen, talked about and made memes about. Its just everywhere. After not seeing the movie in my 28 yr lifespan I decided to give it a try. I didn't like it. Too much cringe for me, which is weird because I really like those corny 80's movies like that. Maybe if I had watched this as a kid I might feel differently about it. I still feel like everyone should definitely watch it. The steelbook art on this is amazing though, so I'm glad I bought it.

5 star movie, 3 star dip for "Art Edition"

Essentially, this is similar to my Alien review, and will attempt to attach the image of the "collector's art edition" I purchased. This review will show up on the "Ultimate Hunter's Edition" version of Predator on blu ray, because that's truly what this disc is, despite the "art" title. Picked up this art variant for a great price at $7.99, and was pretty excited. I have a collection of Alien/ Aliens and Predator movies and memorabilia, and when I saw both Alien and Predator were given an art variant, I, like the obsessed lemming I am when it comes to these movies, ran off and grabbed them. I understood that beyond the art, especially at the sale pricing, it was simply an art change- I wouldn't be getting anything extra from the discs themselves, and that I was fine with. I was however, expecting a bit more care with the actual art included. The art itself is printed on a thin piece of cardboard, then applied to the front of the regular blu ray with a dab of stickem directly in the center of the case. This stickem, in both cases, was not enough to keep the cardboard attached to the case for either movie. The cardboard itself, while nice stock, is cut in such a way that it can only be applied to the outside of the case- it cannot be inserted into the blu ray, either to replace the wraparound or even lust in front of the disc- so without the stickem holding it in place, you'll need to find another method on your own. In my case, I used a dab of super glue on each corner, which unfortunately, discolors the white parts of the cardboard, even from behind. Now, if you don't own Predator, there's no reason not to grab this if you come across it- if you don't care about the art, you can trash it, frame it, or just hang it on a wall. But, being promoted as an art variant/ collector's version, this is being geared towards the collector like myself who probably already owns the movie, or is going to display it somehow. If this applies to you, make sure you understand that you'll need to put a touch of effort into it if you're going to be displaying it- Fox may have produced some nice art for the movies with these new covers, but they didn't properly adhere them to the cases. It's a shame, because they did do a limited edition art variant of Alien for Comic-Con 2014 that I ordered, and for that, they took the time to actually print the new art onto a new wraparound insert for the blu ray. Overall, the art is nice, the movie is great, it's just difficult to recommend this unless you're a die-hard or don't already own the movie. It truly feels as if Fox had a ton of extra copies of these movies already laying around that they couldn't unload to retailers, to they slapped on these pieces of cardboard with new art, then sold them to retailers under the "Collector's Art Edition" banner. If you do grab it, just be prepared to either use the art elsewhere or find a way to stick it to the case somehow- at the sale price of $7.99 I wasn't overly dissatisfied, but if I had paid more, I may have been a little miffed. Please also be aware that unlike the Alien art variant, Predator does NOT come with a digital HD copy of the movie.

Not worth the upgrade over bluray

Essentially, this is probably the 6th time this movie has been released on home video (since the VHS days of the 1980s.) The 4k release is marginally better than the original bluray release (and all the bluray re-releases)< which is to say, grainy, often out of focus, and sometimes just not that great. Unfortunately, the movie was shot under difficult circumstances (jungle), with the wrong film stock, and no 2nd chances to reshoot the bad shots... Compare the image in this movie to anoother movie shot about 3-4 years earlier (Ghostbusters, 1983), and the other UHD title clearly has the better picture.

I enjoy the film, but not sure if it's really worth spending extra for the 4k format. The jungle scenes benefit for sure, but there are limitations on certain aspects. Specifically the predator vision (thermal mode) scenes. Not much 4k can do about how they were filmed and they still show their age.

This new presentation of “Predator” looks good at first sight, but, after opened, it contains the vain of some collectors, the dreaded “eco-case.” Brutal! These cases don’t protect the disc. Ridiculous! Serious collectors just recycle this and use real cases to protect the content.

Still one of the best 80’s action movies of all time. Transfer has most of the grain wiped away so everyone has a waxy appearance most of the time and 3d is kind of flat most of the time.

I really enjoy this movie and after several releases you’d think Fox could do something with the video transfer. Sounds really good but the video leaves a lot to be desired.

'Predator' has its flaws, but the film is made well. The computer graphics are dated, but most will enjoy watching it.

3D re- issue does not help viewing experience much

This early Schwarzenegger's attempt into the action movie genre is O.K. to watch, but his later movies are undoubtedly much more exciting as his experience in movie making gets much improved . This movie is still somewhat entertaining but since it is mostly shot under the dim lighting conditions of a jungle environment it is more helpful to watch this movie in the Blu ray 2D format where it is possible to adjust the brightness level and other viewing conditions to improve your viewing pleasure for the details shown under these dim lighting conditions. In the 3D mode where the lighting conditions are set by your TV manufacturer's technical abilities it is fixed, and therefore you can not adjust the brightness or clarity of the image. So, when you have a movie that lacks the proper lighting to make things stand out in the dark, the effects of 3D are really not coming forward enough since you have no way of properly judging the depth of the environment you are in. This movie is very marginal in that perspective. So when you are thinking of purchasing this flick to add something to your newly acquired 3D movie collection, as I did, you are wasting your money. I have older releases of this movie, including also one on laser disc, I believe, that are just as good to watch as this release in 2D. Although the Blu ray quality is a small improvement, not very much, it is not worth spending extra money on THIS set if you already have it.

Still one of the great sci fi classics. For a 4 k movie, really disappointed in graphics. Seemed almost grainy at times

Got this for $15, and I am happy to say that if the picture on the blu-ray was not your jam, then this 4k edition alleviates that problem very well. You're essentially only paying for the better picture for 4k. The 5.1 mix still does the trick too, and the older extras are there as well for the curious. Yeah, the bluray included is the same as before - both a good and not so good thing. I would do 4 stars, but lack of getting movies at my local Best Buy has been outright disappointing. While I appreciate the speedy delivery, I just wish Best Buy would return to having a wide library of movies like before.

    Predator in UHD!.. With Disappointments!

I'm glad this movie made it to a UHD format that doesn't disappoint. Although there are two downsides to this that I wanted to share... The first one is that this UHD/Bluray has the exact same bluray in previous releases of predator ( Personally I feel like the studio cut costs by doing this and at the same time cheated us out of a true and complete re-release ) secondly the digital copy of this release is NOT in a UHD format so if you already have this digitally in 1080p then you already own it and submitting will not give you anything new.

The movie itself, classic. I love it. And I really like the art for this steelbook. It pops. And it's very fitting and unique compared to some extremely simple or overly done covers. My only issue and complaint with receiving this movie was the disc was loose in the case and was scuffed from being shaken while shipped. It's not that big of a deal. But I'm nitpicky with my steelbook collection, and possessions in general.

    A budget 3-D production

I purchased this 3-D copy because Best Buy was selling it for $10. I am happy with this purchase only because it cost $10. As my summary says, I believe this is a budget 3-D production. There are times when the 3-D looks just great. And there are other times when it seems very lacking or absent. There seemed to be times where one cut to the next, one would be 3-D the next wouldn't. Bottom line, if you can get it for $10, and you want to see a version of it in 3-D, you may be happy with it is I am for that price.

The 3D effects bring you in more than 2D

As a post generated 3D, this has the effect of bringing you into the film (which at the time was one of the better alien-based action films). Not much in the way of things floating in front of you or coming at you, but that's to be expected for something filmed for a 2D audience. If you're a sci-fi/alien buff and don't have it yet and are an early 3D adopter, it's worth the few extra bucks over 2D. But not nearly enough to make you want to go out and get a 3D TV and Blu-Ray player
