I first saw Princess Mononoke in a movie theater in Seattle years ago. I was so impressed with the animation, script, story and presentation that I immediately purchased a ticket to see it again. I later went a third time that weekend. This film is gorgeously animated. Voice acting is performed admirably by a group of highly skilled actors. The story is accessible and takes you quickly through the run time. The musical score by Joe Hisaishi is among my favorites and fits the movie perfectly. The movie excels in its likeable cast of characters. There is no true villain here, just those with opposing goals. This adds several layers and stories to the movie that still have me noting new details at every viewing. Despite being animated, this one deserves its PG-13 rating. There is blood, gore, severed limbs, and mild bad language.

Love his films and glad that I finally own one of the best ones now.

First off, Mononoke Hime (It's original Japanese title) is NOT for most children. This animated feature is geared to adults (as is my favorite Ghibli, but less serious, film: Porco Rosso) and includes violent scenes of combat, dismemberment and deaths by sword, arrow, as well as forest creatures/spirits. Yet I think you will be hard pressed to find a single "villain" in this story (except perhaps the unseen Shogun) as it portrays various perspectives of the characters for who are in conflict with one another. It is clear, however, that the overall messages are that man and nature need to work in harmony and greed can be one's undoing. I highly recommend this film for it's artistry, story and soundtrack (another Joe Hisaishi masterpiece of a score).

I will be the first to admit that I love animation, but I'm not a huge fan of Studio Ghibli works. To me a lot of them feel too similar for me to enjoy them as much as everyone else. And while I do love some of their other works such as Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke will always be my favorite. It goes for a much darker tone, thus singling it out from the typically light-hearted films of Ghibli (Grave Of The Fireflies excluded) and has a story that I found myself to be much more invested in. Regardless of if you like Studio Ghibli or not, or if you like anime or not, this is a must-see film if you are a fan of animation period. It has beautiful animation, creative character and creature designs, and has a compelling story to boot.

Princess Mononoke, with it's incredible visuals, mature subject matter, voice talent (especially in English) and musical score is, in my opinion, probably the best from Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. It is about a Prince that has to find out about a curse that affects him and the land and how to eradicate it. In his travels, he learns about humanity and what drives it. There is a lot of mature subject matter, mostly dealing with death, greed and compassion. He is joined by a wild girl raised in the forest. This story is largely based on classical Japanese folklore. However, it is not essential to know anything about that. It's an incredible journey that I recommend everyone to experience at least once.

Great price for a wonderful movie. Can't beat this price.

This is a great movie. Animation holds up, story is great, dub is actually good. Only weak part in ky opinion is the romance. It still works but feels a bit outdated.
