Growing up in the 90's was a great time to get into Anime, we had barely started scratching the surface of what Anime was and what was still coming. I have long since grown up and I have not followed Anime in a long time. But there are a few ol' school movies I can and will always watch.... here is my list to go by. 1. Akira 2. Ghost in the Shell (1995) 3. Princess Mononoke 4. Perfect Blue 5. Ninja Scroll 6. Vampire Hunter D 7. Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within 8. Street Fighter 2

This is a little more violent than the rest of the movies from the studio. However it is beautifully drawn, just know before you get into it that younger children may find the demon characters to be quite frightening. (When compared to Spirited Away, that is much milder.) Not to give the plot away, the main character was shot at point-blank, and I remembered that scene for a long, long time. Good story – beautifully hand-drawn – very good dubbing – but this is not a cutesy Pixar movie, and may not be very appropriate for someone younger than 10 or so.

I have been a have been a huge fan of Studio Ghibli since the first time I discovered their animated movies. I enjoy reading the subtitles while listening to the English translations. The most important part about the art is that it goes beyond the simplicity of its character design. When you watch this movie, look past the characters and embrace the scenery that was created by the artists. The depth of colors that go into making a scene is amazing. I always enjoy the stars they get to do the voice-overs.

    Best Miyazaki Movie!

If you cannot decide on which Miyazaki Anime movie to start with since there are many, I think this is his best film hands down to date! The theme of humanity living in harmony with nature is no more apparent today with global warming and the ways people are harming the planet, and how critical it is to improve the direction we are heading. This principle of respecting the natural world occurs in many Miyazaki films; but in my opinion, Princess Mononoke has the best story line, art visuals, and message than his other movies! And you can see the impact of animated, artistic style this movie influenced on many other Animes that came out after its release!

This film is utterly fantastic exclamation points it is expertly animated but be forewarned the content is a little bit more mature than you would normally receive from this Disney Studio. With that said this is the movie that got me into this particular Studio almost 10 years ago. This movie is action packed with a mature storyline and everytime I watch it it's as if I've seen it for the very first time. This movie is amongst my favorites!

For those fanatics like myself of writer/director/producer Hayao Miyazaki's timeless, animated feature films, Princess Mononoke on blu-ray will be a welcome return to a fully-realized fantasy world of demons, curses, and cinematic magic. For those experiencing his works for the first time, this enthralling tale is an assault to the senses, certain to mesmerize and surprise you. Even after twenty years, the film is more relevant than ever today with its themes of humanity vs. nature and our responsibility to protect the environment which nurtures us. Don't miss this modern anime classic and the plethora of special features contained within!!!

I have to admit I already owned Princess Mononoke on Blu-Ray but seeing as how it is own of my all time favorite anime and that I'm a massive steelbook collector this was a no brainier I had to buy this. Fantastic movie with animation way ahead of it's time and a story that has very powerful message about humanity and how we take the world around us for granted that is an oversimplification but I really don't want to say more JUST WATCH IT!!!! you won't regret it.

This is a fantastic anime movie. Might be a tad bit violent for some children, but our family very much enjoyed it. Great storytelling and action sequences. Typical studio ghibli quality people know and love. Wish it had a 7.1 or atmos audio track, but 5.1 gets the job done

Princess Mononoke tells the story of Ashitaka who embarks on a journey to find a cure for his recently acquired curse and as a result becomes involved in a struggle between forest gods and a nearby mining town. During this struggle he meets San (Princess Mononoke). The animation as always is beautiful and the story in my opinion unlike some of Miyazaki's other works is much more brutal. I would liken it to a bitter truth you learn as a child that educates you in the ways of the world. Definitely worth watching repeatedly and highly recommended.

I purchased this for my daughter for Easter. she is a Ghibli studio fan. She was very impressed with the book it came with. The book has a statement from the producer, director and an essay from a movie critic. It came with poems written by Miyazaki to convey his vision of the film to the composer. It has also has illustrations from the movie. It comes with a CD soundtrack with all the songs. Bonus features and the movie.

    Great Intro To Anime

I'm not a real big Anime fan but I recently purchased this film after years of hearing nothing but praise for it. I was not disappointed whatsoever. I wouldn't recommend it to children, there are a lot of violent scenes and some gore (although not much blood). A tale weaved out of Japanese folklore and feudal history. Think of this film as the ultimate plea for protecting the environment. For someone who doesn't watch much Anime like myself, I recommend checking this film out as a gateway to other Anime films.

Anyone familiar with Studio Ghibli knows that Princess Mononke is a real treat, and if you're just starting to explore these movies this is a darn solid starting point. DVD is sort of the "left behind" medium of choice these days but that's ok for my needs, and I'm (still) dragging my feet to jump on the BluRay wagon. If you've got BluRay or better, I'd encourage you to buy the version appropriate for your media setup, but if you're a simple person with simple tastes like me, the DVD is just fine!

A complex story where there is no clear hero or villian. The characters are complex and intriguing to follow. The story is mesmerizing and one of the most memorable Miyazaki creations. As far as the Blu-Ray quality is concerned, the images and colors are crisp. I did not notice any macro blocking or picture anomalies. Great transfer overall. The audio will sound dated, but is about the best you can get. The music is enveloping, vocals are clear, and the sound effects are precise. A "must own" for Anime and Miyazaki fans.

Princess Mononoke is probably one of the best animated films and certainly among Miyazaki's finest works. Of course, you will find his trademark attention to the concept of man vs nature, so if you're not into messages in your anime, then stay away. If you are, then you will find a wonderful story with engaging characters and gorgeous animation. For me, this was an upgrade from my old dvd and it was well worth the double dip. Looks great on bluray! Very highly recommended!
