Okay if you don't think to hard.

*some spoilers, but nothing plot revealing* Unfortunately for Ridley Scott this is one of his least good films. There are parts I really liked about it and some parts I just can't get over. For the most part, the story is a good set-up for the next two movies in the trilogy he's planning as long as he follows through. The movie looks great, it's nice to see what the "Space Jockey" actually is and looks like, and it's an interesting perspective on where humanity comes from as well as the Alien species. Something to keep in mind is that while this is part of the Alien universe and it kind of shows where they came from, I don't believe that's its primary goal because it's dealing with human history and evolution for a majority of the plot. My biggest problem with this movie is the characters and some of the acting. Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, and Michael Fassbender are the best characters in this movie. Michael absolutely steals the show as David and is the best part of the movie, but the other two add to it. Every other character is either worthless, expendable, or looking to die, like the stoner geologist that gets lost after he had just made a map of the cave they go in. His character and the one that followed him had no purpose in this movie other than to make a few stoner jokes then die. Everyone else that acts is sub-par. Guy Pierce never does a bad job either, but my problem with him is there was no reason for him to be in this movie other than to add another name because he's only in it for about 10 minutes and I didn't even realize it was him until I looked it up because his prosthetics are so thick to make him look old; any older actor could have done that roll and saved them time and money on the make-up they used for Guy Pierce. My second biggest problem, which is a plot hole, is Charlize Theron has a medical device in her cabin on the ship that can take care of anything surgical related. Ideally her cabin can be used to help her survive an extended period of time no matter what happens to her. That's cool and all, but at a critical point in the movie a female goes to use the device and the machine tells her it can only work on the male anatomy... Okay, so what was Charlize going to use it for? If she were bleeding to death and only had a few crucial moments to live, she's going to some how tell this machine exactly what it needs to do to fix her manually even though it's soul purpose is that you just say "I need this done" and it does it? This was added in to create a more tense sequence, and I get that, but it doesn't make sense why the machine would only be created for male anatomy and why Charlize would have it in her chamber. I personally would've changed that and done something else to that portion to make it tense. I wouldn't show this movie to someone that hasn't seen or doesn't like the Alien series, a lot of the enjoyment of this movie comes from having seen those. I'm hoping Ridley Scott improves his story elements because I would hate for this to be a mediocre trilogy. When you watch this movie keep in mind that it isn't just a set-up for the Alien series, that's just kind of a side portion to it. The story is where we come from and why humanity exists, and I think if you watch it with that in mind, and see it more as an interesting drama with thriller elements, you'll enjoy it a lot more.

    A Fine Film, well-acted, with wonderful 3D

"Prometheus" will immediately grab your attention, and hold it, too. That's unusual for a movie of this length. The plot is ever-changing and developing, taking one in different, unpredictable, directions. There is good character development, and fine acting skills throughout the story. My only issue with the Blu-ray 3D format, it's widescreen, rather than full-screen. If I've paid for a 60-inch, 3D, home theatre system, I want to use every inch of it.

    Not impressed

Who among us has never thought about the origin of life on Earth? There are competing theories, of course. Some take the scientific explanation and dismiss the moment of creation as inevitability. Others prefer the religious explanation that it was an omnipotent being that simply made a conscious decision. Still, there is no definitive answer. Or is there? We open the film 77 years in the future where two archaeologists, Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway (played by Noomi Rapace and Logan Marshall-Green) have discovered depictions of the same star system among several cultures with no discernable connection. After they’ve secured corporate funding, they depart for that system in a massive spaceship being helmed by an android named David (played by Michael Fassbender) who is studying human history and language at the same time. When the ship arrives at its destination, David wakes the passengers who were placed in suspended animation at the beginning of the trip. They include our two archaeologists (Rapace and Marshall-Green), Janek, the ship’s pilot (played by Idris Elba), Millburn, a biologist (played by Rafe Spall), Fifield, a geologist (played by Sean Harris) and lastly, Meredith Vickers (played by Charlize Theron) who was sent by the expedition’s corporate benefactors to supervise and report back. Holloway and Shaw are on a voyage of discovery with no intention of using it for their own gain. David (Fassbender) and Vickers (Theron) are shown to have motives that are not so altruistic, but keep them hidden from their shipmates. None of them, however, were adequately prepared for what they found. Now, I’d seen numerous previews for this film and was very excited about it. Call it poor research on my part, but I wasn’t aware of its connection to the Aliens franchise until the day before it was released. Still, I was excited. Having seen the film, however, I’m not impressed. Rapace and Marshall-Green’s characters seem overly naïve while Fassbender’s character makes several decisions that are never explained and delights in the consequences, despite being an android. The other crew members are well-acted, but nowhere near as relevant. The final reveal seems to be the hint of an upcoming sequel for fans of the franchise. It did nothing for me, however. It appears I’m in the minority, but I didn’t like this film.

If you are looking for space terror like Alien series, you will be disappointed. But if you are looking for an Alien prequel with deep story lines with philosophy, religion, and science, you will absolutely love it like I did. Special effects are truly amazing. Bluray sound and picture quality are top notch. Big thumbs up from me! Looking forward to 2 MORE sequels which are in the works right now!

The long-awaited prequel was hyped a lot by Ridley Scott fans everywhere. The movie was good, but not great.I noticed that a few deleted scenes should have been left in the final cut, as it would have given the movie more substance. It wasn't really a prequel as far as prequels go, but rather a movie that could stand alone, having only geographical location and the explanation of the original Alien to enhance the storyline.

Not the ALIEN Prequel You Were Looking For

PROMETHEUS is a great piece of science fiction, but it's not the ALIEN prequel you were looking for. Ridley Scott's return to sci-fi was highly anticipated, but the story of PROMETHEUS and the reverse-engineered history the conceived provides few answers and begs even more questions. What else would you expect from the write of LOST? Recommended for fans, not for casual observers.

I know they were trying to develop the story, but I was hoping for a little more action in this movie. I would probably rate the movie 3 stars, but watching it in 3D kicked it up a notch.

This review is only for the bluray, one of my favorite movies, but I'm aware it is very polarizing so leave your gripes aside. that said, the quality is great , extras if u take ur time 2 c them, do add 2 the mythos, though "alternate ending" not so different and still leaves many questions for those just burning for answers or waiting for the sequel. In any case good blu ray product and if u still want more, 3d collectors ed. boasts more, but if u just want the movie and then some, this is perfect

Great Sci-Fi, but don't link it to Alien

I am one of the biggest fans of the Alien franchise, so I approached watching prometheus with great anticipation. I was told it was a prequel to Alien, and I will agree with that statement a only a little bit. The were some nods to alien, but you really should approach this movie as just a great unique sci fi story. There is excellent acting, special effects, and story tension so I highly recommend this to sci fi fans.

I might be one of the few that actually liked this film, I thought it was pretty smart, yes the plot might've been lacking a bit, but overall I think it accomplished what it was set out to do. For all those that expected it to answer a lot of the questions in regards to the Xeno's, there's still plenty of story left to tell, overall I think this film personally told the tale it needed to tell in the best way it could tell it. I recommend it, but go in with an open mind.

For Alien fans this is a great movie, especially in 3D. There's great depth in the 3D version and both the video and audio are top notch. Would recommend for sci-fi fans and for those who want a great video-audio experience.

wow. this is movie is beyond gorgeous and beautiful. the scenery and the facial emotions are simply barbaric and beyond untouchable at the same time. its a shame Hollywood wont let Ridley Scott let him do his thing, because, the extended intro is and still are so important for this beyond words for a motion picture. children under 14, could be intense. Adults : enjoyed Alien? might enjoy it. but again and i will say this : DO NOT GO INTO THIS AS AN ALIEN PREQUEL OR ANYTHING.

Amazing movie, a movie definitely worth buying on bluray. the acting is great, the story line is awesome (yes i'm a fan of the Alien movies) awesome beginning to to the Alien franchise. I've re-watched this film about 10 times since I've bought it, it really makes you think and the visuals are amazing, cannot wait for the second installment. the only this very disappointed about is that i didn't go see it in the theater because i was skeptical about it.

I am a movie buff. I look for new releases here at Best Buy weekly. Whether I missed the movie in the theater or loved it at the theater, if the advertisements seemed okay, I will chance it. Out of my 400+ titles of movies owned, I have to admit that this one is one of them in the lower ranks. I will admit that the movie did keep me interested and on edge due to the okay, what's going to happen next moment. I was looking for that something to really jump start the movie but it never happened for me. Too little action and not enough development in the plot. The direction I thought it was going did not happen. I looked and wanted more but it wasn't there. They never got answers and pretty much had very little interaction when they thought they found what they were looking for. It didn't appear to be open to a sequel. If there is one, I will be surprised and not interested. I compare this to Cocoon but in Cocoon the plot went somewhere. I can not say that about this one. Overall it was a C- in my book. I think its more of a rental type movie.

Again, not sure what all the hate is 4, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Perhaps some people were expecting another alien, however this is not the case. That doesn't mean that it's a bad film, I believe just the opposite. We were introduced to the origin of the alien, and I thought it was a thrilling ride. If nothing else it looks remarkable in high def. But to me, just icing on the cake. Can't wait for more.

Those that say it is not a great film are just bitter the Space Jockey didn't play out as perfectly as they imagined it would. It takes place on a totally different planet than Alien, so no, that was not the Space Jockey from the first movie. The black goo does behave somewhat strangely based on different scenarios, so that is a bit weird. But overall a very beautiful movie and very entertaining.

This is a great looking movie on blu-ray and the price was so close to the price for the non-3D combo that I couldn't resist purchasing this one. The 3D copy is waiting for a 3D TV to play it on but the regular 3D blu-ray more than entertains me thoroughly without 3D available to view yet. I also preferred the packing design/picture on this combo over the regular blu-ray/combo pack.

This was a fantastic movie, I eagerly awaited it's release since it was announced. I actually went to the theaters to see it(the first time I've been to the theaters in almost 10 years). I thoroughly enjoyed it and the cinematography and presentation were fantastic. I highly recommend this film to anyone that likes science fiction movies, and the Alien franchise.
