A good movie that expands the Alien franchise. It’s a prequel

If you’re a fan of Alien, this is a must see!! My new fave!!

This film suffers from what most prequel movies do. We already know how this ends. So in case you didn't know, this is the prequel to Alien(1979). Although Ridley Scott(director) kind of denies it. Which is fine. Because honestly it feels more like a fan film. Not a bad thing altogether. There are a lot of elements of the Alien franchise in it. Stuck on a planet. Parasitic alien things. Evil corporations just out for a buck. Blah Blah Blah. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the movie. I saw it before I purchased it. And I bought it because I found myself wanting to watch it on occasion. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but here's the couple things about it that really bugged me. First, it seemed to take forever to get to the heart of the movie. I mean, this is theoretically the 5th movie(technically the 7th counting the AvP's). In the first movie the suspense of not seeing the monster was great. But 30 years later when I go see an "Alien" movie I don't want or need to see 3/4 of it without an Alien. That's what made the first sequel, Aliens(1984), great. It got to the freaking point. This one seems to drone on for a while before something cool happens. Second. I'm really kind of getting sick of watching Hollywood explain my bad guys to me. The mystery of them is part of what makes them so cool. Everyone can agree that Darth Vader was just an great villain. For about 20 years until they had to explain where he came from. Maybe it's a sign of the times. Maleficent, Pan(Capt. Hook), Daredevil(Kingpin), Halloween(2007), Nightmare On Elm St.(2010), I could go on. Those movies don't make the source material better. We don't need to know the reason why bad guys do bad things. It because THEY'RE BAD GUYS! Telling me why the monster is a monster just takes the unknown out of it. And we fear what we don't know. Sorry, rant over. I know I spent 1/2 of this review complaining. Let's end on a high note. So the visuals are all really cool. There's a lot of good actors and acting in here. As of the date of this review(Jan. 2016) the Second Screen App is still available(although the UltraViolet code is expired). Still it is nice because Warner Bros. has abandoned(as in there is no online trace of) their PocketBlu app. And it syncs up fine with my tablet and older Sony 350 player. I loved that I could at a touch watch the alternate scenes in the context of the film and not have to leave the movie to do it. Heck, after my tablet battery died I grabbed my phone and was able to sync right up with where the movie was without having to restart. Overall it has what any Sci-Fi fan would want: great visuals, cool technology, an android, ominous presence of impending doom. I liked the movie. But didn't love it. I would recommend it to fans. But I don't think it'll work for everybody.
