      Hi PatriciaB.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand how important it is for your Ring solar panel to provide a charge to your Ring security camera. The Ring Solar Panel was certainly intended to extend the battery life on your Ring security camera, so you can rely on your security device for longer periods of time without recharging the battery. Rest assured, we are here to provide you with information to ensure your device is functioning as intended.

It sounds like you have some concerns regarding the Ring Solar Panel providing a charge to your Ring security camera. Ring solar devices require 3 to 4 hours of direct sunlight a day. If the weather is cloudy or you get a lot of snow, this would limit the hours of direct sunlight your device is receiving, which would lessen the charge. The Ring Solar Panel will not begin charging your battery until its percentage drops below 90%. You may see the solar device’s status as “Not Connected” in the Ring app when your battery is over a 90% charge, and this is normal.

Visit our support center for more information.

Sad to say it’s not charging like it’s supposed to. I have the exact panel 50 feet away set in the same position with the sun on another cam, and it does fine with one battery. I ended up purchasing a second battery for the cam, but doesn’t charge up. I even turned the cam off from videoing in hope it would charge up. But nothing. I restarted and cam cleaned the panel, but it seems to barely be charging. I feel it’s not putting out the 4watts like it states in the specifications. I might try contacting the manufacturer or Best Buy on getting another panel.

      Hi Jayamd.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring camera so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. Having a solid connection ensures you do not miss any activity around your home. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like you are experiencing issues with the device in regards to battery life. The Ring Solar Panel is designed to provide a trickle charge to the Ring camera to extend the amount of time between charging cycles. There are some troubleshooting steps that you can take to ensure that you have your device set up for optimal performance. Be sure to fully charge your Ring Quick Release Battery Pack prior to connecting the Ring Solar Panel to the camera.

While batteries in Ring devices can go months between recharges with normal use, this is dependent on a number of factors in your home's environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. The more events captured by your Ring camera, the more your battery is used to power the live HD video stream to your device. Even if you do not answer the call, video is still sent from your Ring product to the Ring servers. In addition, the battery is also drained each time you use the live view to look or speak through your camera.

The device's battery level may vary based on the amount of direct sunlight the solar panel receives. It is important to ensure that your Ring Solar Panel is installed correctly and that it is receiving enough direct sunlight to operate as intended. For best performance, Ring recommends at least two to three hours of direct sunlight for the Ring Solar Panel. With the recommended amount of direct sunlight, the device will remain continuously charged under most conditions.

Make sure there are no obstructions or objects that could cast a shadow on your solar panel, such as an extended roof, tree, or bush. Seasonality and how far north (or south) you live can affect the strength of the sun. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, install your solar panel facing south. If you live in the southern hemisphere, install it facing north. Ring recommends using the adjustable arm to angle the panel at about 45 degrees toward the sky to get the most sunlight possible.

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Solar Panel, please reach out to our community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences directly with Ring.

      Thank you,

Delivery was perfect. Note- be careful. This solar panel is known to not work with the Ring Camera Pro- this information was from a Ring customer service person. I have been waiting for months for a replacement after less than a month of use. Ring is apologetic but is not replacing the solar panel any time soon. I have Plus cameras with solar panels and there are no issues. Be sure to do your research before buying this solar panel for the Pro camera.

I purchased this camera the day before leaving on a 2 month trip. Installed the brand new battery powered spotlight camera only to discover …. This newly manufactured solar panel is compatible. After calling ring I learned this cam has no port for solar. We own other ring cams, but this one is a waste of money! I am back now but its beyond the return period.

      Hi Toothbrush.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Solar Panel so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. It is critical for a home security device to have enough power to keep your device online and ready to protect you. We are here today to provide you with education to assist you in finding the best solution for your home’s environment.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. The Ring Solar Panel was designed to provide a trickle charge to your Ring Camera to extend the life of the battery. There are some troubleshooting steps that you can take to ensure that you have your device set up for optimal performance.

While batteries in Ring devices can go months between recharges with normal use, this is dependent on a number of factors in your home's environment such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. Even if you do not answer the call, video is still sent from your Ring product to the Ring servers. In addition, the battery is also drained each time you use the live view to look or speak through your camera. As most of our Ring cameras and doorbells are powered by lithium-ion batteries, it's important to note that at temperatures below 40°F, the battery is less effective at holding a charge and may require more frequent recharges

As cold weather sets in, lithium-ion batteries like those used in Ring Security Cameras may experience several issues including trouble holding a charge, running out of power faster than normal, or losing functionality. Knowing at what temperature batteries will start to be impacted can help you take the necessary steps to keep your device working.

We have provided some information here regarding the effects of temperature drops on the device:
36°F (3°C): The battery may not hold a charge as effectively, resulting in having to charge the unit more frequently.
32°F (0°C): The battery may not charge at all. Even hardwired configurations may not charge the battery.
-5°F (-20.5°C): The battery may stop working completely until temperatures warm up.

When it gets cold and your device's battery runs out, bring your entire device inside and charge the battery with a USB cord. This will allow your device to warm up while the battery charges.

The device's battery level may vary based on the amount of direct sunlight the solar panel receives. It is important to ensure that your Ring Solar Panel is installed correctly and that it is receiving enough direct sunlight to operate as intended. For best performance, Ring recommends at least two to three hours of direct sunlight for the Solar Panel. Hi AishaT. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring device so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. The Ring Solar Panel was certainly intended to extend the battery life on your Ring device, so you can rely on your security device for longer periods of time without recharging the battery. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your device is not operating as expected. The device's battery level may vary based on the amount of direct sunlight the solar panel receives. For best performance, Ring recommends at least three to four hours of direct sunlight per day for Small Solar Panel, and at least two to three hours for Solar Panel (2nd Generation).

Ring solar products require direct sunlight to stay charged and provide power to the device. If the weather is cloudy or it rains/snows, this would limit the direct sunlight your device receives, which would lessen the charge. Colder temperatures may also cause your device's lithium-ion battery to drain excessively. With prolonged cloudy or winter weather, you may need to manually recharge the battery more frequently. When sunny weather returns and the solar panel receives enough direct sunlight again, it will keep the device powered.

Hi DavidP. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having all relevant product information prior to purchasing. The Ring Solar Panel was certainly intended to extend the battery life on your Ring Doorbell, so you can rely on your security device for longer periods of time without recharging the battery. We are here today to provide you with education to assist you in finding the best solution for your home’s environment.

It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with the connector cord for the device being too short to reach your doorbell. At this time, the 20 foot cable that comes with the Solar Panel for your Doorbell is the only cable available for it. We recommend following the instructions below to install a Ring Solar Panel with a Ring Doorbell:

Select your install location for your Solar Panel.

When selecting your installation spot for Solar Panel, be sure to choose a spot that receives reliable sun exposure every day. Ring Video Doorbell Solar Panel can extend your Ring Video Doorbell battery life with just a few hours of direct sunlight per day.

      Line up your Solar Panel.

To properly line up your Ring Video Doorbell Solar Panel:

Use the Solar Panel’s mounting arm as a template.
Mark the screw holes on your chosen surface with a pencil.
      Drill holes (Optional).

Optional: Use a drill to drill guide holes where you marked the position of the mounting holes.

If you are mounting the Ring Video Doorbell Solar Panel on brick, concrete, or stucco, secure the included plastic anchors into the holes. You may need to use a hammer to secure the anchors.
If you are mounting the bracket on wood or vinyl, just use the included screws.
      Put up the mounting arm.

Secure the mounting arm to the wall with the included screws.
      Tighten until snug.
      Put up the Solar Panel.

Slide the solar panel onto the mounting arm. Make sure it's seated securely.

Steps for the Fork Connector Solar Panel for Video Doorbell 2, 3, 3 Plus, or 4.
Attach the Ring Video Doorbell to the wire spacer and connect Solar Panel plug to your Ring Doorbells.

Take the free end of the fork connector cable and pass through the wire spacer.
Use the screwdriver to secure the fork connector cable on the terminal of the Ring Video Doorbell.
Attach the Ring Video Doorbell and wire spacer to the wall.

To properly line up your Ring Video Doorbell:

Place the Ring Doorbell next to your door, about 48 inches from the ground.
Level the device using the level tool.
Mark the positions for mounting holes with a pencil.
Optional: Use a drill to drill holes where you marked the position of the mounting holes.

If you are mounting your Ring Doorbell on brick, concrete, or stucco, secure the included plastic anchors into the holes. You may need to use a hammer to secure the anchors.
Steps for Micro USB Solar Panel for Video Doorbell (2nd Gen):
Attach Solar Panel plug to wire spacer and Ring Video Doorbell mounting bracket.

Take the free end of the charging cable and place it on top of the mounting bracket with the plug piece in the center of the rectangle bracket.
Attach the wire spacer and Ring Video Doorbell mounting bracket to the wall.

To properly line up your Ring Video Doorbell:

Place the Ring Doorbell next to your door, about 48 inches from the ground.
Level the device using the level tool.
Mark the positions for mounting holes with a pencil.
Optional: Use a drill to drill guide holes where you marked the position of the mounting holes.

If you are mounting the Ring Doorbell on brick, concrete, or stucco, secure the included plastic anchors. You may need to use a hammer to secure the anchors.
Plug in the Ring Video Doorbell and attach to bracket.

Plug the free end of the charging cable into the back of the Ring Video Doorbell and click into place.
