With the Quintet system this rule is broken. I have my system in a small room and these speakers do fine. I will upgrade in the future however I do not have the feeling that I am "settling" foe substandard speakers but rather that I bought what was required for the install. By getting this system I was able to redirect some of the funds available to upgrade the right and left channel speakers as well as the sub. Know your room and evaluate your needs accordingly.
