Excellent headset for gaming and more!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My go to headset for years now has been the Astro A50 Gen 2. I use it for not only gaming but for all audio coming from my TV. And it has been great with no need to change until now. I wanted to give the Kraken a try for the same use case and I am pleased to say it does everything the A50 did and more! Of course this is designed for gaming and it does that very well. Games have excellent sound with great location of enemies and ambient noises too. And the big difference is the HD haptics. So if you are playing with a game controller that has vibration you get not only the controllers vibration but the headsets haptics as well which is (pun intended) a game changer! Hard to describe with words. The sound is excellent with crisp highs and lows that are not overdone. Which is the way I like it. And as well as gaming movies and music sound amazing as well. The headset itself is a bit on the heavy side and Im sure this is due to the 40mm drivers. So adding a bit of weight to get excellent tight bass is worth it. The headset is built well and with almost every one Ive had I have to max out the band to get it to fit due to my large head but thankfully it fits perfect at its max. It supports all of my gaming consoles, PCs, and my Sony TV. And although it runs at 2.4ghz which several other of my devices do Ive had no interference issues. Battery life is excellent and can be extended if you turn off the RGB and haptics. I prefer RGB off with haptics on and the battery has always lasted through my sessions and then some. The control hub has a very nice OLED screen that is easy to adjust. And it has several presets and set up for a custom EQ as well. So after years I am finally replacing my A50 with the Kraken. I didnt think Id every want to, but the Kraken headset has won me over. Highly recommended not just for gaming but for all audio!!

This Razer will cut your wallet a bit!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used a number of "gaming" headsets and without a doubt these are hands down the nicest set of headphones I have ever used. Immediately upon taking them out of the box the heft of them gave it an amazing feel of quality to them. The leatherette headband and ear cups are super soft and offer great cushion. The cups are removeable I wonder if another company can make Gel Cups for them at some point. I have had other gaming headphones where the pleather broke down on both the ear cups AND the headband and looked like trash, even though they still worked. But build quality wasn't anything impressive with those other headsets. They felt plasticky all around and creaked when manipulating them. The Kraken v4 Pro is solid and the cups move so smoothly. One thing for sure is that there will be no distracting creaks or squeaks from this set. Even drawing the mic from it's cave is smooth and makes no discernable noise. While there is a nice heft to the headset, the Krakens do not grab my head as tight as I'd like. I don't want them clamped to cause pressure, but a little bit firmer would be my preference. The Krakens can be used with a multitude of connections, from bluetooth 5.3 direct to my android phone, usb wired connection, 3.5mm and the 2.4ghz connection to the Control pod. I'm surprised no RGB on the control pod but the simple controls got me up and running without any hassle. The control pod does what it's supposed to to do and looks and feels nice providing a quick and seamless connection to your PC or PS5, but I can't help but wonder how much the headset would be without it vs having a simple USB receiver. Value in the control pod would be built in Razer Synapse software/controls so that I wouldn't use yet another app to control my peripherals. In this case however, I already had Razer software on my main PC so it wasn't too bad. But if i plugged in the Control Pod to my laptop sans Synapse, it would be great if I had full control without adding bloat to another computer. I have no complaints regarding sound quality for gaming, crisp and clear. I prefer hearing (game) voices over sound effect, music and background noise and with some tweaking I can focus more on what is being said over ambient noises. I wish I had this level of control over many movies. Music over bluetooth via YouTube Music sounds as great. The quality of the mic is just ok. I don't feel the mic is meant for phone calls or video conferencing. Others have told me on calls that my voice sounds a bit flat, although the mic does a decent job at filtering out the background noise. The mic is more than capable at game chat (even thought I don't talk to strangers) while gaming. There is 1 thing that a set of gaming headphones at this price point I think should have and 1 nice to have that is missing. Noise cancelling, which even without them, being over the ear headphones and having sound pumped into my ears, so that would be the nice to have. The should have would be the ability to have an ambient passthrough mode. I understand that headphones are intended for immersion, but if I have these on and someone comes to my door or someone at home needs me and calls my name, well I can't hear the. It would be great to at least have that as a selectable mode. The only thing I can do now is to wear 1 ear cup off but due to the heft of the headphones they don't feel as secure on my head. Especially if they start vibrating with the haptic feedback. Speaking of the haptic feedback, it is kinda cool at first, and it adds to the overall immersive experience, but I generally don't like anything vibrating, even haptic feedback controllers so if I can turn it down or off, I usually. But it's cool to show off. The Razer Kraken v4 Pro is a premium headset and priced accordingly, definitely a luxury item and not a must have. The step down from this model at about 55% off will net you MOST of the features so it's good to see that razer if offering options. The Kraken v4 Pros have not disappointed me for fit, finish and performance, they are the most expensive set of headphones I have ever owned and it does leave me impressed but they ain't cheap. As Ferris Bueller once said, "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

Great design, but lacking audio quality.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had the opportunity to try this Razer Kraken V4 Pro Wireless Gaming Headset for a couple weeks now, and I have mixed feelings about the headset for the following reasons. Here are some of the things I really liked: Comfortable Fit: The ear cushions are pleather, and they were comfortable for my ears for long gaming sessions (4-5 hours at times). Although the headset feels a bit sturdy, it did not feel heavy on the head at all. Build Quality: The headset looks prestigue and the design is great. The RGB touch on the sides look unique to other gaming headsets I’ve tried, and it honestly looks super cool in the dark. The material is for the most part hard plastic, but I am not concern about long-term durability. I think these will last for some time. Battery Life: The battery life is great. I probably gamed for about 25 hours and never got a warning of running out of battery. I do not use haptics so keep that in mind. Control Hub: The control hub is great. Make it easy to control without having to open that app. Some of the things I did not like: Sound Quality: I was using another set of premium headsets before trying these Kraken V4 Pro, and I was excited because I was hoping these would replace that other headset, but I don’t think that’s going to be the case. The Razer app does not have audio profiles for individual games, and so I spent a lot of time trying to play with the EQ, and unfortunately I was not able to find an audio profile that help made the sound as good or better than my older headset. Microphone Quality: The mic works for casual gaming, but sometimes I need to record voice messages for work, and I was hoping I could use the microphone and unfortunately it’s not the greatest. Overall, I was hoping a bit more quality sound from these awesome looking headphones. The sound is a 3/5 stars for me, but the looks and design is a 6/5. Unfortunately, these are gaming headphones not style headphones, and so for me they were a 3/5 because sound is the most important factor.

Best Headset I've Tried
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've tried many gaming headsets over the years that have claimed to be "premium" products. And, for the most part, I've found them all to be very similar to one another, distinguished only by a few small differences in frequency response or the odd gimmicks they've incorporated. After trying the Kraken V4, though, I now have a new benchmark to judge those headsets against. Razer has managed to distill the best aspects of various headset designs and produce something quite special which stands out as the best headset I've personally had the pleasure of using so far. What makes the headset stand out isn't so much the audio quality (though it is excellent) but rather the engineering and user facing design. This, to put it lightly, a very feature-rich product. You've got multiple inputs going into the control box, programmable RGB, tunable audio, simulated surround, haptic feedback, a wireless interface, and the list goes on. it's a very tall order getting all that to work together, and an even taller one to make its use intuitive. Razer has exceeded my expectations in this regard. Controls are surprisingly minimal and yet give you immediate access to everything you might need in normal use, while the Synapse and Chroma apps (which you will be automatically prompted to install when you plug the control box into your PC) allow you to do all the fine tuning you might want and tie the product into the rest of your gaming accessory ecosystem - even if the other parts of it aren't built by Razer. There's also a great deal of care put into even mundane elements, such as the retractable boom mic which effectively marries the superior adjustability and space savings of a removable unit with the convenience of a flip-up one. And, perhaps most importantly, despite having what seems like half an electronics store crammed into the thing it's still lightweight and flexible enough to be comfortable for long gaming sessions. That said, nothing's perfect and neither is this. While most of the standard features succeed brilliantly, the haptics touted as one of the key gimmicks for the Kraken V4 fell flat for me. When I first saw the word "haptics" I was imagining something like a virtual subwoofer, meant to give a bit more presence to the lower end of the audio which headsets generally struggle to properly reproduce. And based on how it responds I think that's certainly what it's trying to do, but I found the effect rather unconvincing. The best way I can think to describe how it feels is like someone lightly bumping the headset with their elbow as they pass by. Rather than adding to the immersion of a scene it really only serves to remind you that you are wearing a headset, and to make things worse can actually make it harder to hear game audio. It's also not helped by the fact that whatever system it uses to automatically fire off the haptics in response to the audio it gets is quite twitchy, to the point where it's often unclear what's triggering it. It's better with "Sensa-Integrated" games which have native support for the function, but even there I can't say I felt like I was missing out by just turning the haptics off. I won't say that it's worth avoiding the headset over it, but having tried it I wouldn't recommend anyone give it much weight when considering which headset to purchase.

Add in awesome noise cancellation and easy-to-use controls, and you’ve got a headset that’s perfect for both casual gamers and competitive players alike.

Haptics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very comfy bought for the haptics as I came from the Nigiri Ultimate. These haptics can be made much stronger now it takes some work and tinkering and out of the box they sound amazing but haptics are low. all around improvement from my nigiri ultimate other than comfort id say slightly less comfy due to ear cuff and different head band but still comfy.

For the Tru Audiophile
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The razor kraken pro V4 wireless headphones are amazing. Starting with comfort, they feel incredibly good on my ears, even after very long gaming sessions or work sessions. The swivel for each of the cans allows for a very comfortable fit, the headband across the top also has excellent padding for great comfort. The sound is also incredible, and it includes support for THX spatial audio, so any sources that support that will be amazing. It will really feel like you are there. On top of that, even when just listening to music or making phone calls, the sound quality is amazing. Speaking of phone calls, The headset includes a retractable mic, which is excellent as I don't like to have a mic in the way when I am just working on my computer or reading or listening to music, but it is awesome to just be able to pull it out. People on the other end of phone calls and video games. I'll say that the audio is clear and background noise is minimal if not completely alleviated. One interesting feature these have is the ability to mix audio. You can be connected via the 2.4 GHz connection to your gaming console, while at the same time being connected to your cell phone via Bluetooth, allowing you to listen to music or other audio from your phone while playing a game, or even to have phone conversations while also still being able to hear your game. This won't be the most useful feature for most, but if it is something you need, it's a fairly rare feature.

Premium Razer headset comes with premium features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm usually not a big fan of Razer products because I call them the Apple of the gaming industry where the product is good but it's typically overpriced. I feel this one is still priced quite steeply, but it does back it up. The build quality is very premium. You're definitely getting what you paid for. The base is made of plastic and there's no denying that. The leather band on the headset feels premium and so do the earcups. The part that holds the actual drivers feels sturdy. It feels and looks metal but I think it's just very premium plastic. The sound quality is superb. I feel like I can hear every music detail I need, movies dialogue, and every movement inside my games as well. I love that about this headset. It is THX certified, but THX is owned by Razer now. You have spatial audio customizable here and the Razer Synapse application allows you to customize A LOT about this headset and its sounds. The sidetone is nice to have and I find myself using it often so I can tell how loud I'm talking. The mic quality is also fine. It doesn't sound bad at all and I think it's very usable. This also supports Game and Chat sound so you can fine tune if you want more game or chat in your headset. The RGB for this headset is really nice and very customizable. It's not just stationary or a few modes. You can really change it up to how you want it and how your style is.

Strong Build Quality, Weak Sound Quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Razer Kraken v4 Pro Wireless headset with chroma rgb is a middling headset with fantastic build quality. The wireless pro model comes with a small mixer box that enables you to connect multiple sources at the same time. As well the headset enables you to connect your phone via Bluetooth at the same time. Right out of the box I was very impressed with the overall build quality. The headphones are lightweight, and fit well on my dome. I did feel a little bit of ear fatigue after about an hour of wear. The mixer box has a fun little lcd display on it that you can customize. As well, it enables you to quickly adjust mix, volume, and eq among other things. The software introduces the new Synapse 4 and chroma, which is a nice upgrade from the previous version 3 of the software. When you first plug the headset in, it automatically kicks off the installer for the software which is handy. On to performance: Starting with the audio quality. Out of the box the audio quality was horrid. It defaults to Game EQ and that mode has almost ZERO bass. It was a very tinny sound at first. I toyed around with the EQ only to find that the Music EQ was the best setting overall. Positional audio worked well, and the THX software was effective. However, the spatial audio was lost without the right balance in the EQ. Now about the haptics. I was excited to give this a go and was majorly let down. Upon turning on haptics the sound became completely muddy. All the highs were stepped on no matter what I did to adjust it in the software/EQ. I ended up disabling haptics altogether as it didn’t enhance my experience at all. Very disappointed. For a set of cans that have such a high build quality, I am astounded at how poor the software/audio quality was. And I do blame the software. I don’t believe the hardware itself is that flawed. It’s just got a really poor audio mixer in the software. And the EQ is complete rubbish. I think the fix is going to require a bigger set of drivers and a much better tuned EQ. I believe these came with a 40mm driver. Another set I have from a different manufacturer has 50mm drivers in them and they sound fantastic out of the box. I tested these in both World of Warships and Overwatch 2 before calling it quits and reverting back to my old pair of phones. I wouldn’t recommend these to a friend. For the kind of money it takes to get these, they need to sound AMAZING!

Home 7.1 Surround Sound strapped to your head!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an amazing product. These have easily earned the title of "Flagship product". Build quality is amazing. These feel like premium audiophile headphones. But how do they sound? Well, Fan-flipping-tastic!!!! I've put them through the wringer listening to music, movies, and of course, gaming. These sound like my $3K Atmos home theater is strapped to my head. I've had so many "surround sound" headphones that are just gimmicks. These are the real deal. Playing competitive first person shooters, you can easily tell directions opponents are firing from. THX certified speakers mean the sound effects are crystal clear. Grenades are punchy thanks to the haptics. Yes, HAPTICS in headphones. Think "I've strapped two 12 inch subwoofers to my head"... it's powerful. These also have the RGB (thankfully can be turned off, coz I'm a 46yr old man, not a Las Vegas casino). The control box gives you all the same controls that are on the headphone itself, but in a convenient receiver-shaped design. It's OLED (definitely overkill, but adds to the premium look). Microphone is really the "weakest" part of the product, but even so, it's crystal clear and is totally customizable. The microphone sounds slightly tinny out of the box, but can be tinkered with to sound more natural via the Razer software. Overall, this sets the new standard by which all premium headsets will be measured. Sound, build, and design all are breathtaking. Razer has made me a customer for life with these highly recommended headphones.
