Customers are saying
Customers are impressed with the excellent sound quality and ease of use of the VideoMic On-Camera Shotgun Microphone. Many also appreciate its price point, though some find the microphone's size to be a bit large for certain applications. A few users noted the need for a 9V battery as a minor inconvenience.

I'd Love to Give 5 Star but Not Portable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great mic for the money. Sound is terrific, especially for capturing low end in musical performances, also for conversation. To get it working, put mic onto the hot shoe, plug mic cable into video camera audio-in, and go. (Don't forget to turn on the power!) But think about that. I'm going to a gig to use it, shlepping tons of stuff in bags and cases: amps, guitars, microphone stands, etc. But the shock mount is flimsy and cumbersome to carry. I transport it via the original cardboard/plastic packaging in which I bought the microphone. Also flimsy! This week the cardboard box ripped. (Bought it five months ago.) There's no case in which to transport the microphone. Serious problem. I wish this mic were more portable, had a viable travel case, and a shock mount that weren't so flimsy because the sound is awesome for $150. 3 stars.

Too much static
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having used a Rode in the past I expected better quality. Records too much static and is way too expensive for such poor quality.

For the Budget Vloggers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a budget friendly mic for my home studio and based on all of the youtube reviews, I decided to go with the Rode VideoMic. This mic is paired up with Nikon D3300 and works perfect on camera or mounted on my mic stand and telescopic boom. I've had this mic for two weeks now and for my very simple purposes of capturing clear dialogue, it does the job. I'm sure the Pro version for $100 is WAY better, but I didn't need it. I discovered if I'm about two feet away from the mic, pointing down at me from the mic stand, my voice is portrayed on the high end. If I place the mic almost right in front of me, I get a warmer and more mellow sound. I haven't had to fool around with -db function because there was no need. HOWEVER, if I needed to, you have to use a very small jewelers flat tip screwdriver to adjust it inside the battery case which is VERY inconvenient. Other than that, I'm satisfied.

Terrible Design & Omni Directional
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the worst "shotgun" mics I have ever used. The pickup range is nearly 360, bad for a shotgun (unidirectional) microphone. The white noise is insanely high, this mic is ultra sensitive but the switches to lower it are inside the battery bay. It's a terrible design. Not worth the price and hardly better than a camera's on board mic.

I love it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this for my Canon Vixia HFR700 Camcorder. This is my first external Mic and I love it. The sound is very clear and blocks out most sounds in the room. I have not used it outdoors so I can't report about those conditions.
