Great mic for use with DSLR video camera. Requires one 9V battery. Battery life seems very good as long as you don’t leave it on after filming sessions are over. Great audio quality. Easy to use. The flat frequency response and zero gain settings are plenty for most indoor and outdoor shoots. Worth the price for sure.

We were not sure what to expect with this. But I can say the sound and sensitivity was excellent. My only complaint was the difficulty opening and closing the battery compartment. Very difficult to perform this aspect of the set up because there is very little room to get the leverage on the tab needed to open and close. This design needs to be significantly improved when the next generation is designed.

Just judging on sound, this thing is great. But the battery door is terribly awkward, and without auto-sensing to turn it on (as the newer model has), you're almost guaranteed to accidentally leave it on and burn through the battery. Probably many times. I strongly recommend getting some rechargeable 9V batteries. You will need them.

Great easy-to-use mic ( don't forget to turn it on) the sound is significantly better than the built-in mic's in cameras and phones and better than even all of the other external mic's we've tried that were equally or lesser priced.

I have 2 of these and they work seamless for our wedding filming. Easy setup and the batteries last a long time. Also very good for presentation online as the audio quality is decent.

Sound is great, in all environments. When I was checking out at Best Buy a clerk said he had the other Rode mic, and asked why I preferred this one, in part better sounds with boost. But most importantly, the video mic is in front of the hot shoe adapter, so you can still use the viewfinder on my Sony A6300. Whereas the videomic the hot shoe adapter is centered, meaning it hangs out over the back of the camera and you cant use the viewfinder.

this is a great microphone for vlogging and indoor use but it has three big flaws 4 if you are a fan of wireless: 1) picks up a lot of background noise a/c, fridge hums, trains, even small fans 2) if using a deadcat changing the battery is a nuisance. 3) does not auto turn on and most cams will not pick up the new live signal prior to starting the recording so if you forget to turn on the microphone you will have to stop your recording and turn the mic on and restart. 4) its not a wireless system so its versatility for interview style footage is not great without additional work, cables boom stand etc.

great microphone, the better one is Rode video mic pro premium that will capture both low decibels and high decibels. this one only captures middle and high decibels. The audio quality was very good for a shotgun microphone after i tested the audio footage.

Rode has a high reputation in video sound, and I see why. Simple setup and ease of use, so you can't go wrong. Batteries are not included, so make sure to grab some 9 volts!

    An Incredible Mic

I shoot stills professionally and occasionally shoot video. When I do, Rode Microphones are my go-to choice for audio capture. The hotshoe mount on the VideoMic Pro works great when I'm using it on my DSLR when shooting on the go or with an adapter so I can hang it over a subject as a boom mic. They're solid and I love the fact that they're powered by a 9V battery. The only reason I replaced my older version of the VideoMic Pro was that I was finishing the first of three days of shooting video and stills, tripped on a sidewalk and my mic flew off the rig and hit the ground, breaking apart (yes, I'm a clumsy idiot). The good news is that the updated design of this model blows the older design away. Even if you're a semi-pro who wants to start working with external audio recording, this product is well worth the money.

This is a fantastic microphone. It works great with my cameras, and you can even buy a road adapter to use this with a USB-C connection, which I have done with my Osmo 3. So either way youre covered! No need to use built-in mics anymore.
