Severe decline in lifespan

It failed eventually which I expected. But the two I bought in 2024, neither of them made it 6 months. For some reason they are trash now

Difficulties setting up

Nothing Improved

Need to recharge in a few days and with less transactions. Do not see improvements at all. Only change they made is that a tiny button, which was extremely inconvenient use was now placed on right, and also they change the plug in format, so that we cannot use the old one. Bad for environment and wasteful. Cannot say anything good thing about this item.

Small and easy

We used it for the first time at an open house. We were selling small things like cotton, candy, popcorn and water. Many people like to be able to use their card for these items versus having to pay us through other services. It was very easy to set up online. So far the charged has lasted a very long time. We were impressed by this. We like that it's very small. We had people use both the contact list, tap feature and the inserting card feature. It was nice to have the ability to use both for the different people that buy items from us. We're really excited to use it for a big event. We have coming up in a couple months. We think we'll see thousands of people over the course of a couple days. I like that we can set up specific items and don't have to type it in each time. I would recommend to friends or business associates that are looking for a way to take physical cards. It makes it easy and simple. It's also so small it fits in a bag easily

Bad Customer service

So much better. So much faster.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Using the newer Square reader compared to the older Square reader in the same exact place, on the same WiFi is night and day in terms of speed. For me personally, that is everything and totally worth the upgrade to the newer reader. The first version card reader caused me so many headaches and was actually sometimes embarrassing to use. I have had many instances with the original reader where I would have to wait so long for it to connect that I had to apologize to clients while I restarted the app, clear my previous apps, and sometimes even restart my phone and/or Wifi for it to connect and accept the card. Even after all of that, I still had to manually input card numbers taking even more time and more money in fees. Many times I considered using another service because of those issues. With the updated Square reader every single issue I had previously has been fixed and I am extremely happy to report that. The new reader connects to the app and takes a card tap within seconds, not minutes. No more clearing apps or restarting my phone. Everything is now excellent. I am running an Android phone and the app works flawlessly with the reader. The new reader comes with a charging cable, but I am finding the battery life to also be excellent, so I am guessing I will only need to charge it once a week in my use. If you use Square for payments, I can highly recommend the updated reader in every way.

An incredible tool to expand your business

I love how they offer small business owners easier ways to make taking payments more convenient for you and the consumer. Not only that, but they also incredibly helpful tools via your online account that will help when it comes to accounting. The contactless Square reader really helps to modernize my business. I am able to take pretty much all forms of contactless payments, including apple pay. As a mobile notary service provider, I can bring the contactless Square reader with me and allow my clients to conveniently take contactless, and even chip card payments. It really is an incredible tool to have. This was an addition to my other Square device for my home business. I really love the convenience the contactless readers adds to my business. My loyal clients were really surprised when I told them that I now accept this form of payment. If you are a small, or medium sized business, the contactless Square reader is a must. Not only will it help expand your business, but you have incredible tools at your disposal that will help run a more efficient business. I would highly recommend this contactless Square reader to anyone!

Good tool, nice upgrade from plug in card reader.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a very small business and this little guy has been a lifesaver as far missing the little card reader that used to plug into the headphone jack on cellphones (why most manufacturer's removed them is beyond me). Holds a charge for most of the day and as long as you have a battery pack this unit should be a part of every small business owners toolbox. I would recommend if you are on the run collecting card payments. I really can't find any flaws or cons with this device. It does exactly what it was designed to do and does it very well. Packaging was pretty good and the directions were very clear and if that isn't your cup of tea there are a ton of Youtube video's that walk you through the initial setup and use of the unit. This works with my tablet as well. Had issues getting it to work with a Fire Tablet but everything else was gravy. No issues. I'd recommend buying or making a holder for it that goes with either a dedicated cellphone or tablet that has a port open to run a cable to it for charging or have it plugged in while it sits on a counter or wherever you keep it.

Stop your Cash Only Business and Accept more money

With everything nowadays using USB-C ports for charging, it is wonderful to only have to carry one wire for both your phone and Square Reader Generation 2. If you are a small business owner that takes payments on the go, definitely look for the Generation 2 version of the reader. Pairing with the Square app on Android is extremely simple and allows you to accept chip cards and tap to pay methods. Both work flawlessly while at a craft festival. Not one time did the reader fail to accept a payment through a few hundred transactions. For 8 hours of selling at the festival, the battery didn’t even move an inch. This is wonderful for doing weekend shows. Given the reasonable rates Square charges for each transaction, plus the ease of using the reader to charge cards, there is no excuse to require your customers to only pay with cash anymore. Using this reader will open up your customer base to use their debit and credit cards or use Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Cha Ching collect money like a pro!!!!

My wife and I sometimes have a table at the local flea market. And nowadays, most people are cashless. So I was looking for an option to accept cards with no hassle and no memberships. This baby hit all the marks. IIt works with most phones and tablets. I could download and set up transactions within the Square app and make quick modifications for certain transactions that weren't listed. It works with Apple Pay and Google Pay chipped and contactless cards. There's a small fee for commerce, but if you want your money right now, there's a small fee. That wasn't a problem either for me. Square makes it easier for small businesses to accept credit and debit card payments without a high startup fee. The battery lasts most of the weekend, which helps. I have minimal arrows when capturing transactions, both NFC and chip. I recommend this one for anyone looking to accept payments at a kiosk stand or on the go.
