Finally got around to watching this after so many people have said good things about both the book and the movie. I did read the sample for the book once, but I didn't really like it very much so I was never super interested in Ready Player One in general. But I bought this on impulse when it was on sale. And I was not really very impressed with it. It started with “Jump”, and went vastly downhill from there. Yes it has easter eggs, yes it has eye candy, but other than being a two and a half hour long tribute to pop culture and nostalgia itself, I didn't find very much to get attached to. It's basically just made up of the easter eggs it's known for, and not much else. All flash, no substance. Hey there's King Kong. Oh, the main character decides to dress like Buckaroo Banzai. Hey there's a stupid video game thing... Look I love a great game, gimme some Unreal Tournament, some Portal or Half Life, a true crossover between the two (hey, a girl can dream), but this movie sucked. I'd rather be playing a game that kinda sucks, instead of watching this movie. There's a lot crammed in here, and it never takes a breath. After a while it just got so stale for me, and there were no surprises. Overall I guess I can see why some people like this, but for me I think it's incredibly overrated and I don't think I'll ever want to watch it again. I wouldn't recommend it.
