This movie may not have been the greatest but it had a lot of old nostalgic characters that made it fun to watch.

This movie was mostly based in a fictional virtual reality world. I have not read the book, but I enjoyed the movie.

The movie is good not as good as the book but the blu ray combo is full of cool extras that are worth getting it

Great movie and the HDR 4K really let you enjoy the whole movie. The Atoms and hdr really bring the screen to life.

Adaptation of the book was surprisingly pretty entertaining, as long as you could separate the movie from the book.

If you grew up in the 80’s you’ll love this movie. It is a little predictable, but is packed with 80’s nostalgia.

If you're a child of the 80s you should watch this movie. Like usual, not as good as the book, but pretty close.

First off, this is not at ALL like the book, so don't go expecting a 1:1 adaptation. Instead, Spielberg's version of Ready Player One focuses on the human side of the story to try and tell a more effective, emotionally resonant story. Unfortunately, it falls pretty flat. Parzival, our main character, is a whiny, annoying, clingy wimp who doesn't feel like he really earns his moment of glory or grows as a person - he just becomes the hero at the end because the movie needs him to be. Love interest Artemis is equally flat, and she goes from capable in her own right, doesn't need anyone badass to Parzival sidekick quicker than you can blow dust out of an NES cartridge (and while I try to let the movie be its own thing apart from the book, it feels like genuine erasure of her character to go from "I'm handicapped" in the book to "I have a minor birth mark" in the movie, and yet both seem to be treated as if they're equally burdensome on the character). It's competently paced and I can admire it on a visual level, but ultimately this never sticks the landing.
