Requiem For A Dream still packs a powerful, stinging gut-punch some twenty years later with its fresh camera techniques, phenomenal score, and haunting imagery, not to mention the incredible performances by all involved. There's nothing quite like this movie still to this day and its message about any kind of addiction. This new 20th Anniversary 4K UHD release has an amazing new transfer with Dolby Vision and a fantastic new Dolby Atmos audio mix. The brand new bonus features are all worthwhile as well. MUST-OWN!

A goofy hellish Aronofsky nightmare ride in 4K

Wasn't sure I would ever watch this one again but, I was telling my son about this crazy flick, he seemed interested and the cheap price on a 4k pushed me back in. Totally worth it. The story is an over the top (but amazingly well done script) cautionary tale about drug use (of many forms) and the slide it creates but, if you view this as sort of a goofy but true life horror show it is unbelievably disturbing with some fantastic acting. The 4k transfer is really good. You now feel like you are entering this world and it's hellish consequences. This is not for everybody but, man if scaring people straight actually works, this might do it.

There are a number of scene burned into my memory from Requiem for a Dream on DVD almost 20 years ago and now I get to revisit Darren Aronofsky's highly influential sophomore feature and really soak in the misery without restraints on resolution and color depth. This film follows a group of drug addicts and chronicles their horrendous downfall. While its premise may seem decidedly square, Aronofsky's craft really makes an impact and makes this film worth revisiting. It's never looked or sounded better and the price is right.

The subject matter is depressing, dealing with drug addiction, but the performances and visual style are amazing.

In my opinion, this is one of the BEST movies ever made. Saying that, I purchased the 4K UHD version, which I play on a 4K disc player and whenever possible, I’ll only buy discs that contain both the 4K UHD with the Blu Ray disc included. Many Blu Ray players do not play 4K UHD discs , so what I do is keep the 4K disc for myself and pass on the Blu ray version to someone else who wants it. I fully enjoy the 4K disc player as they also “ up-convert “ Blu Ray discs to 4K quality. The picture and sound are phenomenal! I hope this helps.

Quite the experience this film is. A visual masterpiece that takes us on a trip to say the least. We find characters battling themselves, addiction, their families, their values and life. Hallucinating scenes that capture the realities of drug abuse and where those devils may take us. Depressing, yes. Exhilarating, without a doubt. Come on, try it. You know you want to. I highly recommend Requiem for a Dream in 4k, for the picture and for the amazing audio soundtrack. Feast your eyes and ears.

Excellent film about the horrors of drug abuse. Now about the 4k, the video is good but honestly nothing spectacular. It's only marginally better looking than the blu ray but only in the black levels. But this disc really shines in its audio; the UHD disc boasts a very good Dolby Atmos soundtrack that is a reason enough to check this film out.

I haven’t checked out the new 4k transfer yet but this movie was a instant day one purchase. Requiem for a Dream is one of my all time favorite films, it’s one of the darkest and most depressing movies ever made but it’s a absolute masterpiece. Darren Aronofsky is a phenomenal filmmaker but till this day his second film remains the best. Look forward to checking out the new transfer and bonus features but this automatically gets a perfect score from me.

The misery of addiction in UHD

Requiem is now 20 years from release and that makes me feel super old. However, the PQ for this 4K is quite impressive, owing to the fact that cinematography has a timeless look and feel. From a technical point of view, it's merits are right up there with recent releases, but the content is where most people will have pause. This film holds nothing back while we watch 4 lives circle the drain, either by intention or coincidence. I'm the type who, if I had never seen this movie, would blind buy this just to see what all the fuss is about. Unfortunately, I would suggest only fans pick this up and everyone else to rent it first.

Requiem might be my all time favorite movie. Everyone should watch it at least once. It has many valuable lessons. The art and style of the movie is also amazing. Be warned that it does not have a happy ending, if that's something that might deter you. This is definitely a movie to experience in 4k for the ultimate in visuals and audio.

This is a really depressing movie to even consider adding to the collection. It's one of those movies that you can only watch once because it leaves an imprint on you (e.g., Hard Candy, 27 hours, etc). However, the steelbook treatment warranted the purchase haha

I really like the slipcover. The artwork on the case is cool too, especially the back cover with Ellen Burstyn. Haven't got to watch it yet, but Blu-Ray.com gives the 4K disc a 4.3 / 5 rating, and the reviewers over there always know what they're talking about.

This movie is kind of a bummer but it features some of the best acting by Ellen Burstyn, who is a titan. The excellent source material, the direction, the fine acting, and especially the mind blowing soundtrack all come together for a deeply disturbing and transcendental experience. Very highly rated!

As huge fan of this film, I really looked forward to this release. The film is still brilliant, though not for everyone, but the 4k is...ok. I think the image could've been sharper, and seemed a bit "soft," to me, but having said that, the color looks really good and this is a great edition to have. If you already have an edition you are good with, this isn't a must have. If you don't have a copy, and/or not have seen this film, I would say this is a great addition to your collection.

One of the bitty women from the mom’s group was Abuela Claudia in Lin Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights” - when I told her I recognized her she was shocked as nobody had made the connection before. Rest of the movie is terrific, too. Great family film.
