There were no instructions so I adjusted the settings a few times but I couldn't figure it out. It's great during the day but no good at night.

Sorry your H1 is using draining batteries quickly.
You may want to adjust how frequent the camera records/takes pictures in the menu settings.
That will help prolong the battery life.

Too hard to get it to work

Uses 8 AA batteries, so I would suggest you stock up on batteries if you plan to use them for long periods. I was kind of disappointed that I had to use batteries as I would hope it came with a built-in rechargeable battery via USB. You can purchase rechargeable batteries. The menu and setup are straightforward. As advertised it is useful for night recordings thanks to its night vision and its waterproof. I like motion detection as it's great when camping or for fast-moving animals. I am mostly going to use it for security around the house and camping. The price does not break the bank and it's a solid camera. I would recommend it to anyone who loves the outdoors!
