I must admit I was somewhat skeptical upon hearing of plans to reboot the APES franchise, but this prequel is quite entertaining. The movie focuses on a brilliant young scientist who is developing a drug that may cure Altzheimer's. While experimenting on apes, a dangerous side affect of increased aggression results in the cessation of the project. The determined scientist sneaks one of the baby apes out of the lab and continues the experiment on his own. This ape is "Caesar" who is destined to be the leader of the future rebellion and ultimate "rise."

After seeing so much advertisement and wonderful early impressions of the 3rd movie, I thought it would be a good time to pick up a copy of the 1st & 2nd film and watch them again and to my surprise, they hold up perfect! Still as amazing as the first time I watched it. My wife and I throughly enjoy this series and will be checking out the 3rd film this weekend using the free ticket included.

I am old enough to have seen all 5 original planet of the apes movies in the theater!. This modern day telling of the origin story of where the apes came from is very good. The cgi and motion capture aspects give the film a realistic rendering of the ape characters. Andy Serkis is a very gifted actor and lends his talents to the motion capture creation of Caesar the leader of the apes.

I have always been a fan of the Planet of the Apes series even as a little kid. If you have not seen all of the originals in a marathon order from start to finish you are truly missing out. Now will all remakes you have to worry about the quality of the remake and how well it sticks to the concept of the original yet it is a little different. Its definitely new age but the quality of this remake is excellent.

I love Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the movie is incredible. This remake blew my mind when I saw it on TV. I watched this film so many times that once it was on sale during Black Friday I had to buy it. The story captured me and seeing Caesar adapt to new environments, gain knowledge and learn how to speak was powerful. If you enjoyed the originals you will love the remakes.

I liked it much better than the first, and everybody I know also agrees. But obviously that’s just our opinion, I can understand why people like the first better, I just don’t necessarily agree. Dawn is atmospheric, emotional, intense, philosophical, and the visual effects actually looked realistic. Rise was an entertaining, but it wasn’t nearly as powerful I thought. Dawn managed to be political without being pretentious, and it managed to be exciting while being both intelligent and emotionally powerful.

For a movie whose trailer seemed fake at first glance (a serious drama about a superintelligent ape and his issues?), RotPotA (rot-POT-uh) does an incredible job getting you invested in the plight of a chimp. Low budget for a summer blockbuster, this ninety million dollar film focuses on the rise of Caesar, first of his species and leader of the apes. We watch as he grows up, casts off his human friendships, and eventually leads a revolt in the hopes of achieving freedom for his people, err, his fellow apes.

For such a storied and established sci-fi franchise, this origin story was well done. And the special effects creating such life-like apes is incredible, never once do I think I'm watching CG characters. Andy Serkis as Caesar is as good as it gets in mo-cap character acting. Highly recommend this film, even non-Planet of the Apes fans will enjoy this film.

So, I got to watch this during an out-of-state bus trip recently. I have to say it was better than I expected. Instead of trying to copy the original, the story has been adapted to cast the plot in an updated fashion. While true to the original intent, this movie stands on its own and is not a cheap copy of the original. I really enjoyed it.

Although the past several years have seen the release of many underwhelming sequels, prequels, and reboots, this film is a notable exception. Andy Serkis's motion capture performance, as well as the obvious effort put into the visual effects, are the strong points of this movie, which seems to have reinvigorated the Planet of the Apes franchise.

Got the Bluray, DVD and digital download all for the same price as the DVD alone. Saw Dawn of the Planet of Apes in theatre and realized I didn't have the first one on DVD so glad I found out cheap at Best Buy. Great remake to the original Planet of the Apes with amazing work done by Andy Serkis as the actor (who was also Gollum) portaying the ape Caesar. The story builds slowly at first but it allows for a great opportunity to build all the characters in the movie.

Entertaining from beginning to end. Well written plot on this coming of age superhero ape. If, your expecting shoot outs & explosions throughout, don't bother. There is a great action scene with all that towards the end. This movie has a little bit of everything, but it's the love that gets betrayed by accident where it starts getting exciting. Plus, it's a must see, if you have or haven't seen the 2nd part, which by the way, it's twice as good and plenty of action.

I have nothing but good to say about the film's lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track, which is dynamically aggressive and consistently engaging. From the very first scene, where you hear frightened birds explode in unison from out of the jungle canopy, you get the feeling you're in for some powerful and carefully considered sound design.

This film had become one of my favorites. James Franco is amazing as always. However Andy Serkis who does all the motion capture for Ceasar is the true star. He puts so much emotion into his work and makes the character more than just believable. Theres at least 2 hours worth of extras that are worth the watch that go through production tactics, mythology, and the primates

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is the first of the reboot films for this venerable franchise that shows how a scientist's desire to make a cure for mental deterioration had unforeseen consequences for apes and humans alike! The special effects that bring this story to life are astounding and only get better as the series progresses

The story of this movie was not what I expected. I was pleasantly surprised by the storyline, and it makes sense as to why the apes in the original Charlton Heston Planet of the Apes were so humanlike. I would recommend this to anyone who likes these types of science-fiction movies. Andy Serkis does a phenomenal job as the main ape character.

I have seen this several times and never got around to buying it, that is until I recently saw the sequel "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and decided that I really do enjoy this one as well, so I bought it. Just like that. It's a great setup to the franchise and Caesar is an amazing ape performed adequately by Andy Serkis. He should be considered for an oscar because he clearly IS Caesar and brings quite a presence to the role/ape.

I was a Planet of the Apes (the original) fan when I was younger. When I heard of the remake, I was skeptical. That was, until I saw the movie. I thought the remake/reboot was very well done. The blu ray picture is pure high definition. I am glad I made this purchase.

Going into this movie you think it would be terrible. Why on earth would the planet of the apes franchise need an origin story.? However, the writers do an excellent job of fleshing out the main protaganist, Caesar, and setting up the rise of the apes and the fall of humanity. Also, the CGI monkeys look ezcellent.

Wow. What an incredible movie. Top-notch talent in nuanced performances deliver an emotionally-involving action movie. Astonishing use of CGI; finally special effects are being used as they are: to the deliver the story, not to impress you with CGI. Compelling and thrilling score by the ever-excellent Patrick Doyle.
