After the disappointing 1,2,and 3 it was great to see this 3.5 movie set the pace for 4,5,6,etc. It was excellently put together all around, acting, directing, writing, etc. without too many cliché moments. This movie all came together form one line in A new hope when it was said that many soldiers died getting the information for the Death Star plans. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Whether you are a Star Wars fan or not, Rouge One is a film that may peak your interest. Die hard fans will appreciate the several nods to the original films and newbies will enjoy the action, the special effects and the well written story. This is probably the only Star Wars film that has the feel of a classic war movie without straying to far from the universe in which it is set.

I couldn't wait for this movie to come to the theater, but unfortunately I missed my chance. I had to buy this movie, because I really wanted to see it. I also own the rest of the collection. My friend told me that this movie takes place after the third movie and is a show that tries into the original Star Wars movie. Now that he said that to me the movie makes sense. I enjoyed the movie.

Honestly. "Rogue One" is a movie answering a question nobody cared about, since "A New Hope" already told the gist of it.
The cinematography, while muted in saturation, is rather good.
The characters are a lot more bland, and K-2S0 is no replacement for C-3P0 either. Your experience may vary, but I didn't get emotionally connected to anyone in this movie.
Except for Tarkin and Leia.
And that's where the fun begins. Both of them are CGI creations.
Tarkin sounds right, near perfect, but his movements were stilted - proving CGI is still not perfect. But his presence DOES add a lot to the film. Overlook the stiltedness in the same way you saw the AT-AT walkers in "The Empire Strikes Back" and it becomes a non-issue.
Leia, on the other hand, despite being given the OK to animate by Carrie Fisher (who also lent her voice to the production) - despite an otherwise flawless and graceful fluid movement, she doesn't blink once and it's jarring (and creepy).
The movie goes back and forth between locations way too quickly. Metaphorically speaking, it's like having a bunch of ferrets and them drinking red bull before letting them out to play. Kids not caring for all the details will like the fast paced, jostled action (which almost seems to do more to hide possible plodding). But in terms of narrative, anyone older than 25 who isn't Sheldon Cooper or Commander Data will have to jot down notes to keep referring back to.
Minor potential spoiler alert follows in this paragraph: And that Darth Vader squirrelly fighting scene adds the biggest discontinuity going into episode IV where he's a lot calmer, less hyper, more poised and graceful fencing, strangling people from afar with collectedness. Does the Empire have better mental health care than the Rebellion?
Just too many aspirations make this one-off fall flat. Of all the areas to shove in a prequel based mostly on secondary characters and cannon fodder, "Rogue One" was ideal. But it's less than the sum of its parts. No amount of effects, experimental or otherwise, could improve on that and Tarkin and Leia are EXCELLENT overall.
Go see "The Last Jedi" instead. It has more characters one is emotionally invested in and is an all-round better story. And underrated, given the hatred of it when the same claims can often be applied to the other trilogies at near or same level.

A dark Star Wars story

Rogue One takes place between Episodes III and IV and explains how the Death Star plans make it on to the Tantive IV; as well as the construction of the Death Star.
This movie is quite dark; which makes it a polar opposite of Episode I. Story was great, and characters had some depth. CGI of Tarkin and Leia was really well done. This is my favorite movie of the new generation.

The steelbook is very well-made along with the cover. It's cover design is different than the episodic Star Wars steelbooks, but that's okay because it's a Star Wars story that deserves its own separate line. The movie overall was awesome! I want to say that it matches the hype with Episode 7, but that's just me. If your a Star Wars head like myself, this is a must-watch and a must-have.

This movie shows how it all began. The oppression of the empire and how the resistance stared building hope even in the face of overwhelming oposition. It provides the foundation that was missing in the originals.
As for the disks plus the downloadable movie we are talking a win win. Blue ray for the living room and the kids can download the movie for themselves. Couldn't be happier.

A singular Star Wars movie that helps fill in the backstory universe, Rogue One is highly enjoyable with a good cast of interesting characters. The film moves a good pace and is fun. It's visually stunning with great special effects. My only complaint is that the film introduces all these interesting characters to the audience then kills them all off. Other than that, it's a great movie.

This was not only a great Star Wars film, but a great film, period. Good character development, great action sequences (especially space fights), very funny moments, and a lot of emotion. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but this film could stand by itself as a good one, without the Saga. But the whole story is what makes it a very enjoyable entry. Definitely get it on Steelbook, it's gorgeous.

Star Wars - Is All You Need to Know

If you have not followed Star Wars, this is the best one to start with. Hands down one the most exciting Star Wars movie to come out. Exciting and fun, it is predictable if you know the Star Wars storyline, but it does not matter. Great relatable characters and Felicity Jones gets 2 thumbs up from me. Great space combat and Darth Vader takes the show at the end. Don't miss this prequel.

When I first found out that their were no Jedi's in this movie I was a little apprehensive about the movie, but man I was wrong. The movie was well done and despite the lack of an opening crawl or any Jedi Knights it maintained the spirit of a Star Wars movie. The CGI of Grand Moff Tarkin whose actor died many years ago was seamless. I look foward to watching this movie for many years.

Best Yet?

This just might be the best Star Wars movie yet, in my opinion. It leans on and honors the other movies in the saga, especially Episode 4, and wouldn't be nearly as good if it didn't have classic material to make homage to. If it weren't for the other movies it wouldn't be as good as it is. But the other movies do exist, and in their context, I enjoy this entry in the collection a LOT.

I'd like to give it 4 1/2 stars for "Very Good" but the rating system jumps from 4 for good to 5 for excellent. I thought it was better than just good, but maybe a bit short of excellent. Close call though. 3D is very important to me, and while I'm grateful to have the movie in 3D, I have to be honest and say the 3D conversion could have been stronger. Also there's no audio commentary. Still, overall, the movie was quite a lot of fun. Love K-2SO. Love the way the end dovetails right into Episode IV: A New Hope, the original Star Wars movie. And there was some good 3D, just not consistently throughout the whole thing. Definitely worth owning. I've watched it twice and look forward to watching it again.
