I like it but I like the Roku 3 better. But I am glad I got it for the price.

it has helped my old school tv since we don't have cable or Internet at home

I choose the Roku because of the amount of content available and easy-to-use interface.

It provides access to films and TV shows that may not be available on other media.

Well at least I was able to power it on but would not recommend .

This thing is cool as heck - I was recording a PBS show I like, Motorweek, on a DVD recorder. That media is unreliable, I'd sometimes wait to record 4 shows on a DVD only to have the DVD become defective. And - it was not HD, I was using the composite audio/video output from the HD cable receiver. I first bought Chromecast, but returned it since I could not find a PBS app. When I mentioned I wanted to initially watch Motorweek, the Best Buy salesman did some quick research and found that Roku has a PBS app. Of course there's so many more I've yet to discover. I had to get out of the old mindset of recording. Today it's on demand access. The HD quality is fantastic - it really somehow seems better than the cable signal, but that must be my imagination. Being able to pause/rewind is a great feature. My bedroom TV doesn't have cable, but I receive local channels in HD with an indoor amplified antenna. For only $50 I'm considering another Roku for that TV, it would be almost like having an HD cable receiver.

It might work for basic stuff but it is very limited when it comes to use the applications installed. I.e when you open Netflix with Roku1 it does not allow you to choose the profile (I have different profiles in Netflix for my kids so they don't have access to violent movies)

I chose not to add on to my "old" tv. The technology did not match up.

After reading all the hype about ROku I decided to give it a try. Wow, what an incredible disappointment! Look at the literature, the box, the web site - filled with information about free programming. In reality, based on my experience the free programming choices are extremely limited in comparison to the hype. Plus, many times after being led to believe the online material was going to be free, it wasn't and required payment.before access. Don't believe the hype! Thanks goodness Best Buy has such a great return policy, because that's where my Roku is . . . back on the shelf at Best Buy!

A little confusing at first to set up but made it work.

This is a good accessory to have if you do not have a Smart TV.

It would not work on my older tv or with my cable box.

The device was amazingly easy to set up and install. It suits my new flat-screen TV, and my old tube TV as well. Easy to move from one to the other - HDMI cable on the new, and RCA cables on the old. Very intuitive to use, and lots of free channel choices to supplement my FIOS. We were all addicted just 10 minutes into it!

I liked that Roku provided free access to independent films.

Set up as instructed and was enjoying the options provided, but the unit quit working within three weeks-tried factory reset several times and though it read the wireless link it kept stopping at the key in of password. Because it was purchased over 15 days prior I was not permitted to return it for a trade, upgrade or refund. I just received my bill for the Roku and am now having to pay for something that doesn't even working. Will be hesitant in buying another Roku product.

A recent life event forced me to cut costs for myself and so I was researching TV alternatives. I am happy to say that this Roku 1 exceeds my expectations. I subscribe to Hulu so it works smoothly over Wifi. Picture quality over HDMI is much better then a satellite service I previously had. I also like to watch certain shopping channels and was happy that my favorite channels stream through the Roku for no additional charge. The reason why I don't give it 5 stars is that in order to complete activation, you have to provide your payment details in order to complete the activation. If you don't have a PayPal account or debit or credit card, you cant use this. However, you can set a PIN on your account so there is no accidental purchasing of goods through the app. Overall, if you are looking to break away from the likes of the pay TV services, this one time purchase of $50 for this box will work. I have Consolidated Communications for my ISP and the 6 megs internet is enough for it to run reliably.
