This is a great and simple product. It's easy to hook up. I bought it for my parents who are electronically challenged and they're not having any problems using it for Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime viewing.

I have owned all the different levels of Roku devices, each with their own pros and cons. The Roku 1 is a basic device that should give you all you need to turn any TV into a streaming powerhouse. I am adding this one to an older TV mainly to access my Plex server on a home theater PC in another room. But with 1800+ channels, you're sure to find plenty of content worth viewing.

Bought this for an old TV without smart features, and it does the trick. It's not as fast as my tablet or game consoles, but for bedroom TV watching, it does the trick. Very simple to set up and get running, and compatible with older TVs with red/white/yellow RCA cables or those with HDMI.

Bought the Roku 1 to stream movies and music on my main television. The setup instructions were short and to the point. Very easy to follow. The hardest thing for me was trying to remember the password for my wireless network. Took about ten minutes to setup and works like a charm. I have limited internet service with the fastest speed being 10MB DSL, I was a bit concerned that I would get some delays due to my limited speed but I have not had any problems so far. Bottom line is that this unit is affordable and does the job.

My parents wanted to be able to watch Netflix in their living room but couldn't because they had an older TV. The Roku 2 has the RCA connector and is able to plug into their older TV. They love it!

We can watch wwe and netflix as well as a ton of free channels we didn't even know existed. A little annoying that you need to give it credit info first but otherwise really great

Using it in my daughters room to replace Comcast. It was a good idea because she never used the Comcast. This Roku is very very east for a 9 year old to use.

While Roku 1 is the least advanced of the current line, it still is a powerful device for streaming content. We chose to buy Roku 1 for an older television without HDMI functionality. I was concerned that Roku features would be stripped down and lacking but that's not the case. The appearance of the user interface is a bit different than more advanced models but all of the same options exist. My only gripe, and it's more about Roku rather than the devices, is that if you have more than one Roku associated with your account, subscriber/pay channels require you to log in to access the content on each device. It would be preferable for the Roku account to hold the channel log in information and then disseminate it to the devices for easier access.

I bought this for my parents for Christmas - they are in their early 70's. I wanted a simple player that they could use to stream movies and shows from Netflix. Setup was quick and I like that the remote is pretty basic so they don't have trouble navigating the buttons. The screens are also easy to navigate and the picture quality is great.

My son recommended we get the Roku to be able to watch the WWE Networks pay per views better and I have to say it works great. No problems with the connectivity at all and streams live very well. The one thing I don't like about the Roku device is you have to already have cable or satellite in order to get channel apps on the Roku. Maybe that's how it all works but if I already pay for cable why on earth would i need an app on a Roku to watch something I'm already paying for on my cable subscription? Crazy to me. But, I did find a channel I don't get on my cable because it would cost more and am able to get it for free through the Roku. So that made my day and I was happy. I can now watch a channel for free and by pass the expense of it through the cable company. For that and the live streaming with no freeze ups on the WWE Network this Roku purchase was worth it.

This is my second roku. I have one on both tv's. It is probably my favorite addiction. So much better than cable and so many free movies. If you are tired of cable prices try roku. i use netflix and amazon prime on it. they are pay services but well worth it! especially since with amazon you get free 2 day shipping on everything you pourchase from them with your yearly subscription.

Needed something for our big old tv at the cottage. This is the only one that would work. Composite connections for our old TV and HDMI for our new TV. We only have very basic cable at the cottage so this was completely perfect for us. Also works on out HDTV at home. I never knew just how cool Ruko is. I'll never see everything that's offered. Massive selection. Worked right out of the box with Charter. Back at home with Comcast I had to call Comcast support and they tweaked my router. Works fine now at both locations. I need to go into setting depending on if I'm using it with an HDTV or the old CRT style. So much to watch I'll never be without one again. Everything watchable on the internet in one easy place. I never realized how many movie are on Youtube before getting this, that's a must have channel. Completely awesome!

Great If You Have Subscription To Various Apps

    Posted .

The Roku 1 is great if you have subsciptions to Hulu, Netflix and any other subscription-based app available. There are some free apps, but most aren't in HD and a good portion is either news or kids apps. Not too many sports apps. One of the apps you can sign up for and get a limited selection of free movies offered. I dealt with static after signing up, but went away once I unplugged the Roku. Easy to navigate. The only other issue is you have to go on your laptop or tablet to sign up before using the Roku. They'll ask for your credit card info at the sign-up, but won't charge you unless you purchase something that's not free similar to XBox Live. Luckily, this product isn't expensive so it's not a bad pick up. This one doesn't offer ear bud plug in, so you'll need to upgrade to either 2 or 3.

As indicated by my review summary and what's great about it comment, you couldn't ask for a simpler, easy to use piece of equipment if you wanted to. As far as my opinion about what there is to watch over the device and channels, it's junk! I'm not a tv watcher anyway, but was hoping this device could help convince wife to cut the cord with cable tv. We tried to find stuff that interested us on Hulu Plus, Netflix and the free Crackle. Tried the 2 free movies through M-GO, but nothing good to select! Tried Vudu, Flixster and TMZ also. Absolutely nothing good, IMO. Even the channels I watch on cable like History and Lifetime, didn't seem to have anything good on. Still rate the unit itself a perfect 5, but for anyone who's not REALLY a tv watcher, it wasn't for me at all.
