I have a older TV that doesn't have any of the smart functionality and this little unit turns the set into a fully functional smart tv with all of the streaming services and apps i would need.

This might be due to limits in their content, technical issues, or a choice to use lower resolutions for better compatibility with different devices and internet speeds. If they have not encoded their videos in 1080p, the Roku will display them at a lower resolution. The Roku - Express HD is a nice upgrade for them that gives them access to Disney+ and HBO Max.
